my c20let gsi build

Right where to start.lol well i went down to dunfermline and purchaced mark wilsons really clean white gsi shell(my fav colour) only done 81k. got the boot,bonnet,sideskirts,back bumper,dash,windows and couple other parts with it.

my plan is to c20let it which is nearly rebuilt and out of a cavalier
6 speed box (f28)
16" flat spoke compomotive mo5's in glacier white or speedlines in glacier white have both so which ever looks best?
and lower it to the height that mark had it.lol
and just get it as mint as i can.

yeah mark said that you took the engine tommy was gutted would easy of taken that to always wanted a decent 1.6 8v turbo engine something abit different isn't it. you dont know who took the doors do you as wouldnt mind gettin the origional front side windows back(only ones missing from set) and the clifford central locking modules that were in the doors 2? cause the doors were just unpluged pins out and sold with everything on.

yeah cle once i get a bit more done and its worth a look at you should come down for a looky would be good to get other peoples points of view on things.

Hmm not sure, blue and red aren't the best colours to go together, only way would be to try the carpet in once the bumpers are on and see how it looks then.

I've had a few MK1's all around E reg's that had a really dark grey coloured carpet, looked and felt different to the usual lighter grey. Someone might be able to point you in the right direction for one of those as they look really good.

made some progress today started buffing the engine bay down and took off all the seam sealer around strut tops plan to re seamseal it prime it and get my local body shop to topcoat it will get pics up shortly when primmed.

Right was up my lock up today sold my sri nova gained a redtop corsa sport which will be going up for sale shortly.
also got abit done to the gsi buffed down more of the engine bay and cut out the part where the c20let alt goes also made a plate up for the hole. and ordered the engine mounts needed for the f28 when i got home.

little update was up my shed today got more of the bay sanded down made a plate for where the old induction pipe went in on the 1.6 turbo
still no welder tho.
so i tapped out the mount holes for fitting the mount to the box also removed the old engine mount and got the engine fitted so can line up the passenger side mount and get that welded in then sort out what an doing with the intercooler.

oh seems that i have the wrong rubber mount for the f28 side could any one tell me which one should be using cheers.

Not sure on the rubber but your engine needs to be sat straighter than that.

you use a normal nova front engine mount for the f28 side. However some people ge them confused with astra ones but they protrude slightly. Personally, if I was doing one again I'd go for a pair of solid mount ones so you know exactly where you are.

Solid mounts are a direct fit but use only one hole rather than 2. Being a much stiffer mount they can be **** to get ligned up sometimes but once in the engines going nowhere!

not much progress was up tonight and noticed some rust at the tops of the inner wings so cut it out got plates welded in place buffed it down and painted some red oxide over it now ready for sealer and painting the inner wings white

Checked the oil just before getting off the ferry at Dover, then by Bristol it was dry with no sign of a leak, I did get from Dover to Bristol in about 1h 40mins tho. lol

I was going to use the doors for my SR project, but sold them to fund the Sport shell I bought which had new doors fitted so I had no need for them.

bit of an update with good news and bad good is got all the pannels away to paint today bar the engine bay. bad is that the boy took out his charts and looked thro them and we cant get a perfect match so if anyone has wilson_sri's number could you pm me as lost it ! !

cheers benn no floor was the plan for today but ended up droping the pannels off for painting then finding out about the paint not matching paint charts so lost intrest after that. hope i can get intouch with wilson_sri and get him to find out the make of paint and if was water based or 2pak or whole car will be geting painted.

There wouldnt be enough in it for painting mate, was just left over stuff he gave me for touching up any stone chips etc But it had a sticker on it with loads of information from the company that mixed it. So might say wether it was 2 pak or water based.

Well got hold off wilson.sri and he couldn't find the tin with the paint code on it so unless the bodyshop can match the paint the whole thing will be geting done as the colour the car is is much brighter than what it should be.
Pretty gutted as the rest of the car is mint.

looked in the tv mag and says it was done oe glacier whits so gonna phone the body shop tomorrow and see if that helps if not concidering doing it vxr white does anyone know the colour code for this? also whats peoples thoughts on this? as never actually seen one this colour.

yeah well when i gave the boy the pannels i gave him a wing mirror as a colour match but he noticed it didn't look right so got the colour charts out and none were a perfect match which is what i want so he's geting the shell next weekend to try and match colours and cut the car's paint back and see what will match best if none do will be full spray hence the reason was thinking vxr white?

was up today aswell geting the shell ready to go to the auto body got the axil back on and the front running gear aswell and down on wheels with the engine out so just some welding to do then it will be off to get sprayed.

Tyre slightly in the arch at the rear and a slight gap at the front is the way I like them personally

Slow slow mate! Been busy working at the orange Nova getting it ready for some events and just not really looked at the MK1

Had a wee hour or so the day trying to get the Irmscher cam cover to fit properly and got the coil and dizzy looked out for the 1400 engine so hopefully get all that sorted and maybe have it running in a few weeks time...

well the boy from the bodyshop phoned other day and said has been really busy and that the engine bay bumper's etc Are done and just the outside 2 paint but Still no date for it being finished tho would really like it back shortly as want 2 get the Mk4 Gsi interior fitted engine and Box fitted aswell and get the running gear away 2 get powder coated along with the comp's.

cheers for the comments guys just thought would do something abit different with interior thought about a retrim but always liked these so with a mate breaking a mk4 gsi decided to buy the interior and its in really good condition aswell so should look good and luckily they arent to wide so dont look out of place in my eyes anyway.lol

cheers mate the rear seats dont seem to be a problem just the corners where the wheel arches are so gonna have them trimmed around there by a local place that repair/retrim interiors and try and source the fabric used for the seats and have that trimmed on the nova door cards might also use the door handles and electric window switches and do away with the standard nova ones but will see how things go?

any other ideas welcome tho as that part is still in the thinking prosess?
