im doing the conversion for the above so i thought i would put up a wee thread to keep him updated.
its a very clean mk2 shell with around 13,000 on the clock. cant really find any rust anywere in the bay. pland are as follows
remove engine
seam weld bay and fit plating kit
polybush car
fit scorpion system
supply and fit rollcage
fix XE on dbilas boddies
and a few more goodies to add later once confirmed.

these pics are from last week, today the exhaust is on, manifold bolted to head, bushes fitted. will fit fuel pump tommorow night please excuse the wheels its all i had. was outside for a dry day or 2 while engine was fitted now back inside.
radiator also fitted. will also be fitting shafts shortly.

****ed somebody over on corsasport too
s'funny i discussed this after i raised it with him, he swore blind he wasnt banned on any sites and was an ok trader etc. yet a mod on here and a few guys on mig have told me the only place he's allowed to trade is on png. strange/ o.p have you informed the mod/admin staff? for all our safety?
He tried a nice little trick on me where he said he would do a bank transfer for some parts I had forsale, said the money had been transferred then said have the parts been posted when the was no money from him !!! Not good tbh.

this is far from the end of it tho as i think all in he now owes me approx £1500+ for parts not fitted or even in the car
basically all that has been done is welded (badly) and the enginge sat in
many of the bolts/fixings etc are missing also.

havent been able to get a hold of him for weeks, just been getting the odd text then he either ignores any calls or turns his fone off, the only reason i gave him cash in the first place is because he had a good rep on here, and i seen the engine and spec.
I mibby shouldnt of gave him so much upfront, but he did seem to be a decent guy.

Oh and I'm just a member of the public and nothing to do with PNG but I like it on here and don't like seeing people getting ripped off with there hard earned cash.

shocking service, even if its not a professional (company) job you would still expect the work and parts done that you asked for. Especially after this length of time. All I ever see regarding LET is bad rep, bad trader and bad work. As above keep calm and pay him a visit.

the car was given to "let" 4months agowith the promise of a two week turn around including all the parts in the original post, from then on it has just been excuses and at some points, weeks with no contact. twice i arranged transport to collect the car as he was taking too long, eventually last night he aggreed that i would arrange for a recovery truck to collect the car this morning, he said all parts not fitted were inside the car.
when i arrived this morning the car only had a few hoses inside it and his fone turned off!

thats ****e mate , thats why i prefer to do all my own work and if i get stuck with welding then i ask for a price to do just the welding then your never going to lose alot of money.
feel for you mate, an XE should not take longer than 3 days tops. one of them days is letting the paint dry, and thats at a steady pace!
am gonna try to get some pipes and have a bash at puttin it together this weekend, does anyone know how much and where is best to get the leads for the sparkplugs?

There isnt much (anything) we can do regarding the fact you've been ripped off. I shall ban him from selling, but its upto you if you want me to ban him from the site as you might be able to contact him via here...? Let me know if you want him gone completely

As above not really your fault Lee and it's not like he would have avoided the guy if he didn't have a site sponsor title, I don't just trade with well known members etc and unfortunately I've been ****ed over for over £70 by someone before, so it's not like the lack of backing stops it happening.

IMO take the engine and box out and send the car for paint, while it's away you can get a good look at what your working with as regards the engine and box, maybe even paint them up and make them look all pretty :)
That might be a good shout bazil, see what you think once you get a look at it mate:)

yes mate you will need the ecu that came with the engine. there cheep on ebay to buy if you cant find it.

any welder can tell you if the weldings is strong enough and if it looks a mess it can be grinded down or grinded off and redone :thumb:

Really upsetting when something like this happens, your pride and joy (maybe) some one is meant to be sorting it out, but instead leaves you out of pocket, and still useless. I am sure the members on here will give you advise and lend a hand where necessary to get this car finished now. Tbh there is no exuse for what he has done to you, he has taken an unexpected new member under his wing and taken full advantage.

Lesson to be learnt is not to pay people upfront and definetly don't pick up a car after half a job is done :roll: excluding the majority of your parts.
I hope you are going back to his house to collect these bits and not going to fork out for some new bits from elsewhere? 100miles is nothing, get your bits back and do the project yourself. You will learn more, enjoy doing it and show to people that this LET guy is a waste of time.
However if he refuses to give you your bits i doubt you can do anything about it legally. Taking the car when it wasnt finished was a very silly idea and just makes things for these guys to con people more often. It's the same with CS, he will love it on there with all the stupid buyers out there.

I would of at least spoke to the guy and firstly got his side of the story and then would of asked for him to gather all of my stuff together and would of taken it all away. If i was stupid enough to pay him beforehand then aslong as i would of got all my stuff back i would of left it as that and obviously not be so stupid again. If i hadnt paid the money upfront and depending on how the guy co-operates i would of paid him the money for the parts and refused to pay him for any labour.
Edit - this is what i would of done when going to collect the car. If he wasnt in i would of waited there until he was.
sorry to hear whats happened matey. if didnt live so far away id of offered to help rebuild the motor for you, as i wouldnt like to run it knowing the bores have been filled with water, especially after what you've been tolds been done or in your case not been done.

Crap news about getting ripped off. Fair play to you though, given the fact he was a trader on here, therefore technically deemed "ok" by the club, you havent had a bad word to say about them. I fear others may not have had the same outlook. For that i rep thee. Hope you get it all sorted soon.

as i said earlier i was up with david earlier, since he droped me of at around 4 ish he went back to his car and started to remove wires etc and get the engine ready to come out, im sure he will update this in his own time or start a new thread as this one is more about let nova than his car now, dc has limited interweb access atm, but he has a clear idea of what needs done and he will proceed the best he can with the help of friends and forum advice, as im local to him ive offered my help as much as possable and im sure others on here will also help through their knowledge of previous conversions, but i must say its a bloody good shell he has, makes me jelous lol
please if possable could we all let this thread get back on topic, after all its supposed to be about the car.

no its not a total mess imo, its disapointing (sp) but i felt the best way forward for dc was to remove the engine and box, clear the full engine bay and get it all painted, whilst the engine is out he can get a good look at what he is working with, if LET NOVA wants to post here i would ask the other members NOT TO WIND HIM UP as he has alot of info that could help dc ie regarding the plumbing on the inlet as its not standard (debilas i think )
as for the issue of parts missing that is a matter for dc and let to sort out
things i noticed today also were the fuel pipes, the feed and return are black and brown? are these upto the job or do they need replaced?
fuel tank- can a spi tank be used witha mpi internal pump ( iirc i saw brownie mention this ) i know this would mean no swirl pot so possable fuel starvation on hard cornering

The spi tank will be fine with mpi pump, they have a tiny swirl pot in the bottom that is enough.
good stuff as finding a nova mpi tank and external pump is not easy up here, the tank he has, has a twist in sender at the rear with a feed and return.

both my gsi and gte have bolt in sender at the rear with external pump the tank dc has , has a twist in sender with only an electrical conection at the rear of the tank in the same place as my bolt in one, the tank was lying upside down in the boot, i didnt think to turn it over to have a look, but the car is a j reg and was a 1.2 so must be spi then?

Especially bazil for coming over yesterday to show me where to start.
I must add that yesterday "let-nova" sent me a text saying that he will deliver all the missing parts including the full roll cage plus return the money for all the hassle.
Hopefully he will do as he said and i can get on with the build.

i dont want to be the barer of more bad news but this engine never ran right from the day it was built. the cams are masive and imo dont work along with the throtle bodies and the exhaust manifold should be bined. that retard should be shot for selling you that engine.

If its got high comp pistons, they will have valve cut outs.
Thus the cams will be fine.
I personally, would do as I saidlol Put it all back to standard, to a very good (wiring plumbing etc) job of converting it, and then add the bits back into the mix.
Or, just run it how it is, but, on standard management, with them pistons/cams/throttleboddies, you will never see the best power.
However its an excellent engine for a base:thumb:

IMO
pick up a standard XE. for 300 quid ish.
fit it, wire it in, and run it.
then with your spare engine, either break it. or work on it, learn with it and add the fancy bits to your engine once you understand the parts etc.
my 2p. id get the head off, check the pistons, if they are std then change the cams for stock ones. if they are pocketed, then the cams will be fine, and you need mappable management. or fit std cams and runa std ecu. the dbilas is designed to be compatible with a stock xe ecu and engine.

this is a mystery why let done all this crap i now wish i held onto my xe for a few year more as it was a great runner and the clutch was good and i removed it all still wired and plumbed bar the radiator and matrix and would of been ideal for you :cry:
