Maybe a blue one too lol,
I don't plan on starting the bodywork this year Andy, the wife pointed out to me that if I done all the bodywork I wouldn't have an engine to put in it or any cash left to build the engine lol
So might do the engine, box and turbo this year and enjoy the black one as DC says :)
Why would the body work cost so much?
More the paint Kev, I'm not doing a cheap job on it plus the cost of all the other bits when I put it together,
The engine shouldn't cost much to build but turbo recon price and at a guess a grand for management, custom down pipe, oil filter relocation kit etc is where my cost come in,
At a rough count I'm needing 2.5k for engine and box to be done then I can store it and recoup my money for the paint.
Having said all that the job I'm doing is under threat just now, my company job is safe but the contract we are in hire to ends in march and a new company takes over the motorways, so they might not use us,
Just means a drop of £150 a week of that happens,
Fcukin iphone typos !!!!!!! N

Basically it has no EGR setup, also has no vacuum fuelling thingy on the end of it, not much of a difference to be honest but I think it would look better than a blanking plate on the e16 one

I have two of them in the garage. The guys at OCP looked at me gone out when I collected them. They thought I was stupid to replace that panel. Then I explained the splash panel repair sections were NLS and a pair of them was more expensive than one of the bulkhead panels ;).
Up there for thinking, down there for dancing lol
It was after seeing your ones that I thought " yeah, I should get one of those lol "
Everything else is getting replaced so might aswell do this too,

Will you sell the front wings and chassis legs?
The spice girls had the right idea when they sang 2 become 1 :) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220109/7f4aa5f2181b3a4310f93e2c791a1ba0.jpg
So a few years ago my S3 needed new brakes, new suspension , gearbox was a bit lumpy, had an oil leak at the back of the engine so I bought a new daily car
The plan was to fix up the S3 for a track car and still to restore the nova.
Then the insanity kicked in, how about I put the S3 engine and running gear into the nova?
Now at this point I had no time or the idea of how to do this so I asked a friend ( Kenny ) for his advice, he had a look and thought it was such a good idea that he said he would take the project on :)
Then covid hit, everyone was struggling a bit, so it was put in the back burner
Now it?s finally time, the nova is stripped and ready to go, the Audi is getting a stripped this week and then they are both heading off to see the wizard to the tune of the spice girls 2 become 1 lol

Now the S3, this was daily car for 14 years I bought it when it was only 3 years old and 30k miles it cost me 18k in 2004!
Now has 141k miles on it, still on the original clutch, original exhaust the engine has never needed any serious work other than a new oil pickup pipe and 1 coil
Sadly it needed new calipers all round it had a couple of snapped springs, the gearbox was getting iffy the rust was setting in so it was time to put it off the road.
It sat for just over three years untill yesterday https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220109/e837b0d425b069b504bbce27d6449924.jpg

I'm not clued up on 'modern' Audis, but I'm a bit surprised at the rusting.
Is there any demand/value in the trim/body parts that won't be utilised in the Nova?
This model is a year 2000, I already had to patch the sills etc, it wasn’t a help that for 5 years my works car park was full of gritters and salt. It killed my combo van with rust too.
usually the bumpers and trim are easy enough to sell on the rest will pretty much be used or cut up.

In for more on this one! Looking forward to seeing how you go about it.
How do the widths and wheelbases compare?
Thats all beyond me, im ok will simple repairs but this level of fabrication is out of my field, A lad I know up north will be doing the fabrication for me. Wheelbase is simple really just lop a bit out the middle and shorten the prop shaft. Width will be the S3 track width, I’ll be going wide arch, I always liked the wide arch look anyway.
So that?s the Audi pretty much as stripped as it needs to be for now.

You're going to need a substantial tow vehicle for that!
Surprisingly it is only 930kg empty, the kerb weight of the S3 is 1460kg but with it stripped I based it on being 1200kg ( probably lighter though ) so well under the 3500kg limit of the D-max I used https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220122/1d51110fe077d7887f0265a2a923ea5f.jpg

Looks like you had room and weight capacity to get the Nova on there as well!
The Audi is 4.1m and the nova is 3.6m unfortunately the trailer bed was only 6.5, very close but would need to have done some dodgy loading to get them both on, not really worth the hassle
'Only' 930kg empty!!!! That's more than most Novas!
I know LoL it was the only trailer I could get a hold of at short notice, probably couldn’t find a bigger one if I tried
So this is what Kenny is up against, the nova front panel section is sitting at the distance from the wheel centre to where it would normally be in the nova
As you can see there’s a fair bit of difference!
Lucky the turbo is at the back of the engine so only the need to sort out where to put the incidentals like the full cooling pack, lights, intercoolers , that sort of thing.
Nothing major, I’m happy it’s someone more intelligent than me who’s doing this https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220124/37dd420785fe889c7ff1c3c2177857a6.jpg
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well the strip down keeps going, the idea is to keep the nova upper scuttle panel for the sake of the wipers and windscreen but below that will be all Audi bulkhead to incorporate all the Audi systems and heating
As you can see there will be a bit of trimming to the dash required lol
The front end is a hell of a squeeze but final space won’t truly be known untill the nova body is on the Audi chassis
Kenny has done more in a week than I’d manage in a decade !! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220129/be1e12e7e9e095b82e43cea415022a50.jpg

So let the chopping begin!
Kenny has devised this jig for two important reasons, first is for keeping the floor from flexing and second to enable accurate alignment once the floor is shortened to allow for the correct nova wheelbase
Not only does the floor need to be shortened but it will also need to narrower too

Last rear panel I saw for sale was 250 quid !!
So the trimming continues, Kenny is doing this in his limited spare time, but I’m pretty sure there’s more thought required than just blindly cutting away at it.
It’s now pretty much ready to get the nova cut up!

Very much like the XR-TT project that the lads from Shine Automotive are doing on YouTube. Hopefully you [your staff ;) ] won't have to widen/lengthen the bodyshell like they had to with the XR2.
Well the strip down keeps going, the idea is to keep the nova upper scuttle panel for the sake of the wipers and windscreen but below that will be all Audi bulkhead to incorporate all the Audi systems and heating
As you can see there will be a bit of trimming to the dash required lol
The front end is a hell of a squeeze but final space won?t truly be known untill the nova body is on the Audi chassis
Kenny has done more in a week than I?d manage in a decade !! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220129/be1e12e7e9e095b82e43cea415022a50.jpg

Once you've seen Project Binky on YouTube you'll find your Audi/Nova build will be a walk in the park.

only thing will be wider arches, the rest will maintain the nova shape. Mainly because I’m keeping the full tilt/slide sunroof, it has to retain some of its GSI heritage haha.
kenny is wanting to keep it as nova looking as possible on the outside.
Nice wing :)

some folk are never happy tho, there’s plenty of GSI novas on speed lines out there, just need PCD adapters and I’ll keep them on my Nodi GS3 :-D
Some serious weight reduction on the GSI lol

about 3 years ago I sold all my new GSI parts, that’s when it was no going back, unfortunately covid delayed things a bit
First trial fit of the shell over the floor, LOVE IT ALREADY!!
Again, big shout out to Kenny for his hard work and commitment to this build https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220717/3f905ee4708343fc9826c859c366101f.jpg

Brilliant!!:)
Front bumper and grille are going to need some imagination. Or is there scope to shift some bits backwards?
Radiator in the back?

bumper and grille should be ok,,ish, main issue is the inlet, it might need a bit of a makeover, thinking about ditching the air to air coolers and using a charge cooler with the core cooled by means on a small evaporator linked into the air con system. It would mean I could ditch a huge amount of weight and pipe work, meaning I only need a coolant radiator and condenser at the front, the standard GSI bumper and grille should supply enough cooling for that, these engines don’t run an oil cooler either so that’s less demand on space too.
still a hell of a lot of work but the base looks good
