there is a new GM rear chassis leg for sale overhere if youre interested?
well was up looking at this today and thats about it lol
ive decided to go for a new decomp plate of 2mm to give me a cr of 8.5:1 and run that for a while to see how it goes.
still looking for a genuine gm front panel and other wee bits but im going to abandon my inner wing project shell and cut it up to allow progress on this.
hopefully i'll be able to work on this by next month once ive cleared some space.
updates to follow soon.

Made in Scotland sticker needed for the front window for the finale lol
lol im off my bloody head, ive had to scale down some of the plans, the engine might not even get the turbo kit either untill the funds allow the purchase of DTA management and corsa VXR pistons and rods, the collection of parts is nearly over, so now i can start working and planning the body and paint work.
its staying as it was style wise apart from no rear lower spoiler and no speedlines.

Bazil where's the Haynes manual for this build, please create one and do it video style as it's worth more to the Nova masses. :)
Oh btw bullocks with doing this lol
Not brave, just stupid lol
Matt, measurements, patience, and measure again, I'll be doing only 1 panel at a time starting with the rear chassis legs as I'll need them in place before doing the floor, then after the floor I'll do one quarter then the rear panel then the other quarter,
Southie, it's way beyond the haynes lol I'm thinking 10+ spanner rating
Get it done Bazil lol
On a serious note, you got the floor sorted yet ? So work can commence
Is the weather holding you back ? As I know up norf it can be cold
It's like the Med down south :d lol
Not got the floor done yet, spent today moving all my parts to move with a view to start the floor, the weathers not to bad a roasting 7 degrees today lol

Are we going to get some good updates now after your recent activities?
lol, not just yet, I'm still oncall till may the 1st so after that I have no time restraints so better progress shall be made
lol your up way to late, it's em STAR SILVER lol, the clue is in the title:d
@ BURGO, simple plan is get all the bodywork sorted and brakes, then a full respray, no engine work as I don't have a budget for that, but i do have an early XE, it's been sat for 7 years so would need a rebuild if I was going to use that but probably keep it 1600:thumb:
Hahaha love the "i dont have the budget for that" comment:-P Haha how much have you spent on it now mate???
I stop counting after driving through 7 countries in 59 hours to collect bits lollollol
this is a totaly unrealistic rebuild, in almost every area, anyway I had it out at the weekend while moving stuff in the shed, and then put it back where it was lol
getting nearer some actuall progress,

Or No Update
You got all the panels you need now then ?
Get something like this ?? For doing the rear arches and inner wings to make it look more factory ?? Or for any spot welds
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ram-Tools-Spot-Welders-240volt-ideal-car-bodywork-/130504087036?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e62a655fc#ht_760wt_922
i was going to hire one edd for the likes of the quarter panels, rear panel etc, the small hand held jobs might not have enough power to penetrate through the chassis leg rails and inner wing join, so i'll just use the mig on many high stress areas, i wont be doing any stitch welding allong the lines in the bay as i want to keep a factory ish look but will be stitch welding from the underside for a little added strenght,
i think i have all the parts now, so just some concrete work and i'll be sorted lol
in hindsight i feel i may have started this build thread a bit early, seeing as how i havent actuall done and work in about a year :(
Cpms are willing to donate many lengths of 3x2 cls to help you put it together;-) (and not the cheap stuff, proper treated stuff) Hahaha, could Mibby stretch to a Box of super strong 25mm drywall screws;-)

you right to keep and aquire the parts, as i said today i'll build this GSI once, if its stolen/destroyed/crashed/damaged then it will not be fixed or replaced, this thread and this build will be its last, i just hope it survies.

You have the parts now, so lets get with the building of the car, when ever your needing a hand dont hesitate to ask, either laying the floor or anything buddy.
iain
If you need a hand shoveling concrete give me a shout, if you need a hand with the car ill stick the kettle on for you lol
god i hate this bloody car, its cost me thousands of pounds but yet i still cant scrap the fcuker!
so what im thinking is to cut the centre out of the rear floor section, repair the inner rear wheel arch, brace the rear substructure then repair the other side then fit the boot floor, then replace the rear chassis legs?
any better ideas?
i'd rather start at the rear ( ooh err ) as this would be the hardest section and the most probable to go wrong,
any input is welcome ( apart from reshell comments )
Are you fitting the whole new floor then ?
As you might want to have the rear lower edge of the quarters off to access that area if you are
If I were doing it I'd somehow be thinking of doing the floor, legs and inner aches with the rear panel still on for some support,
DO NOT GIVE IN THO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET IT DONE :d lol

Triangulation is best, I would weld in some bar/box section to maintain the shape of the rear of the car.
Prob best to weld to the roofs inner side strengtheners and join to the opposite side inner quater and arch etc. Use multiple bars front to back and measure everting befor you start cutting just in case you get some movement.
I reckon before you get to this stage you want the floor legs and inner arches all done
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/IMG_0264.jpg
cheers lads, i am fitting the full floor Edd, rich i was going to weld a rear strutt brace between the rear turretts and a triangle form each turrett to the opposing roof corner as you say, measurements will be plenty as i dont want any flex as this would spell disaster, i have rear inner arch panels as templates to repair the sections and the rear panel will still be in place to hold ech side together,
as you can understand nobaody has removed and refitted a full boot floor and rear chassis legs before so its a little frightening lol
I reckon before you get to this stage you want the floor legs and inner arches all done
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/IMG_0264.jpg
argh lol, the floor has to go in before the legs but the inner sills and inner arches have to be repaired before that, quarters and rear panel will be a piece of piss after that lol
that pic scares me lol

IMO if you have the bracing done as you said it's time to crack out the drill mate, get the legs and floor out and go from there
Quicker you start the quicker it's done :)
need a concrete floor first lol, ive got DC1984 coming accross on sunday to help plan the shuttering, as some may know i lke to be 1 step ahead so i can dive into the next stage while planing the following one lol

the only problem with that is the fact i have no spare cash lol, and the fact a jig clamps onto the very parts i need to cut out :( the rear chassis legs on the inner sill. im going old school and measuring and hoping it works lol

Its a great car though mate and would be nice to have it parked up at the shows one day without any rust on it when you can look back on these days.
Crack on mate.
Cheers mate, when I was at billing this year I was gutted when I saw warrdys silver L reg one, it's a stunning motor but really made me want mine back,
I won't be doing the turbo conversion straight away, the goal will be to get it rebuilt and on the road with my GTE engine in it to allow me to work on it's own 1600 to turbo it,
LEWI007
18-08-11, 10:48 PM
Yeah thats the best way to do it.
I think you can look at the bright side of the rust, atleast you can get in all the hard to get areas when you cut it up and remove all little bits of rust inside the panels, theres little bits of surface rust on the insides of a couple of my panels ive had to leave as i cant get to them without cutting panels off so ill have to propably do it in a few years, so just make the most of it.
:( ffs thought there was a update with work being done lol
I know you've said there's other stuff you have going on ATM, but any idea when you might make a start ? I'm looking forward to it lol
Surely sorting the front end would be reasonablly straight forward compared to the back end ?
Cheers Edd, yeah personal reasons are a bit dire now :(
Anyway, the reason I will start at the rear is because the front is easier, if I get the rear badly wrong ( which I doubt ) atleast I've not wasted all the new front end panels like legs and innerwings
Christ I still haven't even got the floor in yet lol

£100 from vauxhall, but while there is access I'll probably do the brake lines first as I have all the parts needed for that, then I'll worry about getting the alt out lol

I didn't get the case I'm afraid, the 202 was standard issue here aswell, i still have the vauxhall code card for its original unit but sadly I think I threw it out years ago.
Alex, why rush? I stipped the car to find out what I needed, now i almost have all the parts bar 1 LH full quarter panel, I don't want to use my mk1 quarters on the gsi so need to get a mk2 quarter

I may know the guy your talking about, I bought doors wings and a bonnet from him and collected them personally on the road trip Iain and myself took last year, I'll need to see if I can squeeze in a trip over sometime soon.

Fancy picking up some bits for me while you are there? Steve has some bits me. You can borrow my Sat-Nav if you like ;)
Did you not have the round Griffin bonnet badge originally on the GSi?
I do still have the round badge on the gsi bonnet but it's in poor condition,
Aparently there are 2 sizes of vauxhall badge, the cavalier one is a different size to the nova one iirc, but I can't see myself drilling 2 holes in the bonnet to fit it, I'll just be using a form of glue.

Alright mate hows things when are you goin to start puttin that nice collection of part on ya car then ? ;)
It's amazing that you still have your GSI from when you were 21, I wish I had my Star Silver GSI from then! I think my life would be quite different if I had kept it. I bought mine in 1996 and sold it for £4200 in 1998.
I just couldn't let it go, I wish I had now lol
I'll get it the way I want it someday but it's sat for 8 years now :(

06-04-12, 09:32 PM
Rust In Pieces more like lol
The sad thing is the parts you've got are getting so rare now that they'll be worth more in a few years so won't be worth attaching to the shell.
At eBay prices I could EASILY make £4000 lol
That would include all my GTE panel stock aswell though, I have had thoughts of sticking up all the metal for sale but only as a job lot, it would have to go in one sale, I would not split anything,
ALL GONE OR NOTHING!
Even today pairs of inner wings both front and rear ain't easy to get but yet I still don't have a RH door :(

Do it and spend the on a nice shrine for the GSI lol
Hmm I'd turn to the dark side,
Either a RS1600i in sunburst red or a Escort cosworth in imperial blue,
Or sell the S3 aswell and buy the lancia I've promised myself for my 40th
Novasport

Buy Stu's GSi and cash in on all the parts & panels, you will probably end up in profit! Let the pikeys take your silver one for weighing in on the back of their tipper ;).
I bought one instead of trying to finish my build an never looked back since:thumb:
Sadly rich if I don't build either of mine I'll never have another nova, I can't see me buying one to be honest, it's part of the reason why I haven't done a quick fix, there is no rush and no time limit for me, a small luxury I suppose.

Hats off for your patience in panel collection.
On a side note, the white tailgate you mention you got off Jonny_Ayr came from my old GSi, still kick myself for getting rid of.
Best of luck with it, shall keep an eye on this.
Cheers Archie, I got the wiring loom and doors from johnys car too lol
Finally got my LH full quarter panel, thanks to Jeffrey and niek for there road trip :)
Also still buying bits n bobs for interior etc.
Still have to many things in my way before starting this, my van needs the oil pump replaced ( which a mate is doing for me ) the Audi needs work for its mot and my mates Astra is nearly finished so that's a help.
The delay in starting is a good thing as it means I keep buying more bits for it lol

So might do the engine, box and turbo this year and enjoy the black one as DC says :)
