Thinking of getting a heated front screen,

Where's the best place to get one from?

How much do they go for nowdays?

Do they come top tinted?

Thanks in advance, Edd

Cool
Start another GB on here
£170 rings a bell?
Yes
HTH (lol)

I <3 my heated screen. Bought it as part of the group buy on here a while back, was considerably less than £170. Worth every penny though.

You can get top tint, but there wasn't enough interest on the last GB. Since then though, a few people have mentioned them, so it might be worth seeing if anyone else would want in.

I too would like a heated screen as i have now removed all blowers & heaters from Nova so if it rains i'am f*cked at clearing the screen!

Have to be top tint though to keep it as how Mr Vauxhall intended my car.

If a GB starts i'am in!

He can get top tint ones but needs a minimum order of 10 with payment up front. Ricky is a top bloke to deal with.

If a group buy goes ahead, I'd like to be considered for a top tint

17-09-09, 12:28 AM
Would it be cheaper in a group buy as the one in the site link is 165 (excluding VAT, inc VAT it would be 189) if it was 130-150 inc VAT I would be in, if not then I wouldn't as my budget is very low.

can all of you PLEASE check with your insurance companies!

if you are fully comp, check if they will let you find your own replacement front windscreen.
I did, bought the heated screen and posted off the reciept. got my money back bar the £50 windscreen excess.

SO IT'S WORTH LOOKING INTO.

i would be interseted in a heated front screen for my nova with a top tint though

how does it work? as in how does it turn on /off ?

would it be wired to the rear screen switch?

Stuart
17-09-09, 10:10 AM
you can wire it how ever you want.

Some put a timer relay on the sidelight switch so when you turn on the side lights the screen demists. Others put a simple toggle switch to relay to screen to have it on all the time. You could wire it to the heated rear screen relay if you wanted to.

lights or rear screen me thinks, dont like extra non factory switches!

very interested though

I've added a cav rear screen switch next to the rear fog switch for a factory look

I powered mine using a pair of relays, one for each side, but I took the relay feed from the position III output on the fan switch, so when I put the fan on max it came on, but would stay on until I turned the fan off completely.

Its just the same as a rear screen, dont see people upgrading there alternator for sound systems.

Id love to know where this myth that if its anything other than standard needs a bigger battery/alternator comes from.

Competition grade equipment requires bigger alternators usually due to having more batteries etc. But yeah, as for the average halfords special gear, the standard kit will be fine.

Mmhmm, aside from the wires poking out, the fitment is the same as a std windscreen. We just tucked these into the rubber and had them poke out at an opportune spot. Fit was excellent, no leaks or anything.

I can't 100% vouch for the alternator as obviously I have a stonking great 3.0 130A jobber on mine lol but I'm sure others who have them fitted needed no additional alternator work.

sparkie1401

cant remember what the stock GTE 16v alternator is, think its 70A?

top tint makes no difference on price i recedntly spoke with rick

problem is every one will want different tints, unless we just all have the factory greeny/blue top tint

if we all disagree we'll never get ten orders

Guys thats half way

we need ten, and i spoke with Rick, who welsh dan recommended, top tint is no extra cost, £165 + VAT

deposit required only to get the ball rolling, payment upon collection

he says delivery is available but not cheap as its glass it is insured, normally couriers dont insure glass hence it'll be expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Iain
26-09-09, 08:25 PM
£165+VAT is normal price?! How is the group buy saving any money?

sparkie1401
26-09-09, 08:26 PM
Scott im pretty sure he said he didnt fit, but its same as a standard screen, and he said it wants its own switch (LED type recomended) and needed 2 relays so i asssume 1 for each side of the screen

i suppose it wont hurt to ask if ten screens at once gets us some discount????

Ricky Evans Motorsport in Tamworth. I tried to organise a buy about a year ago but we didn't get the numbers. If you want top tint ones from him, you'll need to order 10 top tint ones.

I had mine fitted by Ricky in Tamworth, top bloke, he even fixed the retraction on my sunroof.

Details from my enquiries etc.. (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88045)

Thats why i said fitted mate.

27-09-09, 04:43 PM
I'd just ask at my local windscreen place if anyone will do a 'foreigner'. I'm sure it won't cost more than twenty quid

its very easy, i never had a glassguy fit any of my windows.
1 guy in the car pulling the string, and onother on the outside keeping pressure on the window.

if youre using a new rubber it will be a b!tch though

Bahaha, I asked a load of local fitters round here and the only one to say yes asked for £140 which iirc was more than I paid for the screen lol

Most were too scared in case they damaged it - if it was one they supplied they would just replace it there and then.

Graeme
27-09-09, 07:12 PM
I've done a few myself with the string technique and a friend applying pressure but I'm sure any conpetant windscreen fitter would not be scared fitting it but if I was expecting some one to do it on a back-hander I would hold them responsible if it did go tits up

sparkie1401

just spoke with rick and heres the info we all need

Rick NO LONGER FITS as he is on his own now, so no service available

UK domestic delivery is £40 + VAT

this is with Parcel Force Worldwide, the screen is in a very large special/purpose box and is fully insured.

Rick says he has used PF for around 4 years and has had 2 or 3 damages, but basically says check the screen within 24 hours, report any probs if necessary and it will be dealt with, basiclly dontwait a week to unbox it, any probs take digi pictures and he can sort it for you but he said its highly unlikely any problems will arise!

delivery is basically to anything with a UK postcode so inc. N.I and channel islands, same price £40 + VAT

PRICE

if we get a GB the screen should cost £143 INCULDING VAT with toptint
give or take 20p

ive also emailed him so he can check with suppliers to confirm the price 100% and then get back to me, but the above price should be correct he sempt pretty confident about that

if we can get ten defos this week we should be able to get them for Xmas

29-09-09, 03:28 PM
Is the rest of the windscreen tinted green like all other Vaux glass from that era?

I would be lying if I said I wasn't interested in a heated front screen with standard Vaux blue/green top tint.

But I'd also be lying if I said I had the cash to buy one at the mo

EDIT: Need to analyse my finance (as I'm out of a job atm), and see if I can puppy dog eye my ma, pa & bro into getting an early b'day present.

Maybe we can blag a final discounted mates rates price ;)

Well my Nova has nothing, no bronze no green just clear and it really is just clear, it's a freaking greenhouse

But I will be light smoke tinting all the glass so don't really matter what tint the new glass has, although I do hope it does have some tint.

Im going to do as Sean said, I'll ask my insurance about seeing if i can source a glass supplier, then they might cover the difference over a standard screen etc?

Graeme
30-09-09, 08:56 PM
I'd definately try the professional route first but the method I have always used is some thick string or alarm cable pushed into the rubber, with the rubber on the screen and then put it in place apply a little pressure and pull the string towards the centre of the screen which then pulls the rubber over the lip of the bodywork, I've always been successful fitting them with this method and not had a breakage yet

hi Ricky

assuming we get ten orders for the windscreens to get the top tints

please confirm the following:

how long they would take to get to you (approx) from point of ordering

is it deposit first then final/full payment on collection/confirmation of
delivery

how much deposit do you want

regards Mark

guys if we cant get ten, are we just gonna try for discount on normal glass w/o top tint?

you can get it tinted i suppose

Nova_Tek

30 % of £155 = £46.50 which would leave a final cost of £108.5 + delivery (for me)

ok Im in as I'm 98% sure (as my B'day is only 3 weeks away so family are chipping towards it as a B'day pressie yay!) also want standard vaux toptint :thumb:

Can payment be made via PayPal?

Edd

I take it then we have to have ten for the top tint ?

I would really prefer a top tint tbh.

scott.parker
10-10-09, 12:44 PM
"IF" We don't get enough, and the discounts not much then im out, I don't use the car enough to validate putting that money toward the screen.

TBH i could do with using the money on getting it setup, as it's not ruining right at the moment.

Scott

I'am with Scott on this.
Gotta be top tint to keep glass looking factory also.

How many we got now 7?
Sure the supplier would rather honour 30% discount on 7 screens than say no & get nothing.

sparkie1401
12-10-09, 12:58 PM
fair comment boys, i to would prefer a top tint but will go without if necessary?

you can get it tinted yourself, so rick told me

hence if we dont get ten i think we should all do it, in all fairness scott our cars aren't exactley factory anyway

Top tint are special order for him, and for special orders he has to order in a minimum quantity of 10.

He got screwed over by a Cavalier club a few years ago so now he'll only special order 10 screens or more once they're paid for.

Nova_Tek
12-10-09, 01:25 PM
We need a recount of who's in, Im sure we could get another couple people involved. For me the top tint is uber important and the fact that it's heated is the extra for me. It's worth getting both features for this price hence why I'm in the group buy.

My Shammy has done OK so far! But i don't use the car much (once a month)

As said I'll think about it, as it's the fact there is not a big discount, nor the fitting side of it.

I sold them to Adam, but they were from one of the popular hong kong ebay sellers about 2 years ago.

thats the same kit I had. But I strongly reccomend filling the terminals on the ballasts with dielectric grease because water got into the terminals on mine and caused me some problems (read: I got stuck at Ellesmere Port one night with no lights). Once I cleaned up and sealed the terminals they were fine.

Any idea if they pass MOT?

Unlikely. The beam patterns weren't spot on, they were close though and didn't dazzle oncoming traffic. I took them out just to be sure, although they were declared to the insurance company.

I asked this question and from what I understood only the top part of the screen is tinted. The rest is clear. Such a shame they couldn't drop a bit of green tint to the rest of the screen. That would deffo be the ultimate windscreen lol

sparkie1401
30-10-09, 12:02 PM
I have just spoke with Ricky Evans ref the heated front screens

Good news, 9 yes nine is enough for a group buy(GB) so please lets not go all gay and fukk this up between us

we all need to pay 30% of the total price to secure a windscreen (£155)

unfortuynately ricky will not be ordering any more stock untill early/mid december as he has to fill a shipping container (they coming from the far east) and they will arrive mid to late january 2010

i dont see this as a big problem as i still have a windscreen in my car, and i hope this doesnt make people change there mind as to say ill be disappointed will be being polite

the top tint will be OE blue as discussed and clearly stated by myself earlier in the thread

i will PM all the 9 definates when ive typed this post

i will expect everyone to contact ricky and pay the 30% deposit within the next week (£46-50 required)

i will email him the 9 members who want a screen user names, just confirm your user name with him upon payment and then confirm on the thread you've paid so all involved will be aware whos up to date and whos keeping him waiting

im going to pay today/tomorow

01827 283 688 or 07970 597 312

i say lets not let him down as he was badly let down by some cavalier club which he still has all the screens left except the guy who tried to sort the GB in the 1st place, lets give PNG a good name

welsh dan did mention this also about the cav.com club or someone

I'd really rather have the screen than the money tbh, I'll give him a cheque which he can cash when they are all present and correct if he'd prefer

MORE IMPORTANT NEWS

just spoke with Ricky (again) on his day off

we need to get the deposits(cheques) to him by the end of November so he can place them in his december shipping order

IF, that word again IF the GB fails and it really shouldnt if we stop messing about he will send the cheques back to you

So to recap

we need 9 deposits sent to ricky evans motorsport asap

LATEST end of November 2009 but preferably tommorow rather than posting it on the 27th or deciding on the 17th that your aunt fannies cat needs a new scratch post or a squeeky mouse

send the cheque with a note confirming your PNG user name
(user name on rear of the cheque also)

S.A.E so he can send the cheque back if need be (stamped addressed envelope)

Come on people

as soon as Nova tek has paid me via paypal im posting our cheque and ive told NT that needs to be before tuesday, and hopefuly edd will be confirming the payment sent

^^ Sounds proper fair lads

Should be no reason not to be able to send that £46 cheque. I fully understand that some of us maybe having some cashmoney difficulties, me also somewhat included, but its only £46 and it gives you approx 2 months to find another £105 (just dont buy a couple people xmas gifts, or don't use your xmas money on other stuff, sorted!) lol

I missed the last GB of the heated screen really don't wanna miss this one, as a newly painted Nova + brnad new limited edition screen with lovely toptint = MINT!

How well do these work?

Fapping brilliantly! There's a vid I put up earlier in the thread, and its in my project log aswell, but it really doesn't do it justice. De-icing and de-misting is an absolute breeze. I'd struggle to buy another car without one.
