You can connect either side either way around, so long as you have a live and an earth on each side.

Can you find out if your ment to bond the rubber to the screen please?
MARTIN KELSON
31-03-10, 10:09 PM
Picked mine up today.
Ricky was very nice & helpful.
Never mentioned anything about bonding screen to rubber. I'am just sticking mine in i think as per origonal Nova.
Week Saturday at the moment for somebody coming to fit.
Martin
Hhhmmmm yet told Greaeme too....
He definately told me that if you didn't the water will penetrate the laminate and it will go cloudy around the edges

Hi
E-Mailed Ricky and yes it looks like it needs to be sealed.
He recomended this:
Tex winscreen sealer
http://classicsagogo.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eclassicsago go%2eco%2euk%2f&WD=windscreen%20sealer&PN=Bodyshop%2ehtml%23a158288#a158288
Martin
But sealing the rubber to the body wont stop water getting in between the rubber and glass.. Which is that can go milky is where it needs its...
MARTIN KELSON
01-04-10, 09:24 PM
I 'Persume' you put that sealer in the gap where the glass will sit, then put the glass into the rubber thus sealing the edge of the glass inside the rubber seal.
Thats what i was thinking anyway!
Correct Martin, he told me to use a non-curing type sealer that isn't silicon based, due to silicon not bonding to the rubber seal
MARTIN KELSON
01-04-10, 09:32 PM
Cool
Thats what i shall do then.
Just gotta order some of that sealer as Ricky advised above then were away.
He said roof and gutter sealer from B&Q is the same stuff, he said to me it can get messy but wipes off with paraffin

Guys
i collected my screen today, ricky was helpful etc
would just like to thankyou all for putting your money where your mouths are and doing the PNG proud
Benn as graeme said
it needs a none setting sealer inside the rubber seal to keep water from getting in the screen and working its way up the heated elements and causing the laminate to go cloudy and the screen to clear in patches and presumably completely fcuking up in the end
mines going in in the morning and i cant wait and will prob be all wired in on tuesday when john comes round
REP sent to all involved for a Succesful GB

I was thinking of putting two small holes in the rubber each end to poke the wires through so once fitted they wont be seen.
Will look into this when it gets fitted to see hows best to do it.
What sealer did you use?

Martin
the sparky im using is very fussy and finiky so he'll prob do same with the wires etc
Woody used to work for Autowindscreens until about 2000/01 and uses what they use
i didnt see the tube but its some form of arbermast soft sealer, none setting(forgive the spelling)
stays soft and moves about
so it fits the bill as to what ricky said, woody said leave it a day or so then scrape the excess off and then in time after ive driven it it may ooze out some more, again just scrape it of, but never dig under the rubber

Disco, the sealer is none setting, just stops moisture/water getting itsw ay into the screen fcuking the laminate up and keeping the wires inside in working condition

After removing my windscreen and having a look at the rubber I was just wondering something.
There are two ridges on the actual windscreen rubber. One is the ridge which wraps around the lip of the body and the other which the windscreen sits into.
Are we meant to put this non curing sealer around the ridge which the windscreen sits into?
Do we also need to put any sealer around the lip of the body itself? I'm asking as the standard screen had sealer, I'm sure it was non-curing as it's sticky as hell, on the body when I removed it.
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/4148/1000725x.jpg
You don't need to glue a std screen in, thats done by glass fitters to make sure there's no leeks and that. You shouldn't need to here as the rubber is glued to the screen.
sparkie1401
16-04-10, 10:11 AM
you dont need to do that Mr TEK
the rubber holds the screen in as its not a bonded one, put the screen in as normal then put the sealer all the way around the seal from the out side leave it a few days as it settles ans then scrape the excess off with an old credit card or something similar
Nova_Tek
16-04-10, 11:30 AM
Right gotcha, sealant around the sceen once the rubber is around it. The original one was done exactly oposite to this. But I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff they used.
sparkie1401
16-04-10, 11:35 AM
fit the screen as normal as in it just pops in, bit of string, the pump soft none setting arbermass sealer into the seal from outside, this will protect water getting in rubber and in time fcuking the screen laminate up and morimportanatly the heated elements within the
once all this is done then can you read mayfair and drink cups of tea

Anyone fitted the screen and got it working?
I mock fitted the windscreen rubber around the glass and obviously the wires will need to be sorted. It's a shame that the screen connection is wires rather than a spade connection like the rear screen.
What has everyone done about the wires?

We just hung mine out the rubber on the inside, crimped on some bullet connectors I think. Never had any issues with water ingress.

16-04-10, 06:47 PM
So you just bent the wires to hang out the rubber on the inside?

Right..This is for everyone..
The rubbers are £15, they weigh 1.5kg without any packing and Royal Snail want £6.64 (recorded) if they are over 1.5kg, so the total would be £21.64.
It's 74p extra to send them recorded so I think it makes sense to do that.
And, most importantly, I would like to point out that I am making NOTHING from this, I didn't realise so many would want them and I'm just trying to help out, and as such, please if you going to send via paypal either gift it or cover the fees as it's not fair for me to end up out of pocket. Quick question.
Does the sealer need to be applied to the inside of the rubber seal and then the screen slotted into the rubber or slot the screen into the rubber and then apply sealer under the rubber?
Good chance the screen is going in tomorrow just need to know :thumb:
Yes^
Has any one got there's wired up and working? As mine is and takes current from the battery but not 100% sure if its doing anything..
Nova_Tek
18-05-10, 10:48 PM
Yes, what? :) I wrote two different methods there.
Mines not wired up just yet, was gonn ask actually.
The screen has 4 wires. 2 on the left side of the glass and 2 on the right side. Is it one lot of wires earthed and the other 2 switched live?
Welsh Dan
18-05-10, 10:49 PM
The screens are divided into the left half and right half, which are isolated from one another. One from each side needs to be earthed, the other needs to be switched live. It doesn't matter which way around you do it top/bottom.
