Humm Cant sleep, just thinking, body colored wheel arches, or black/gray stone chip/underseal?

MK999
10-02-10, 02:10 AM
if it's all original styled black/grey imo

LEWI007
10-02-10, 09:04 AM
Id of said do them body colour, but since its a light colour youll have to wash it all the time.

craig green
10-02-10, 10:59 AM
Do the arches in Black IMO.

It does need some mudflaps & those 13'' 3 spokes from an early GL.

Not the biggest fan of the colour but each to there own

Not the biggest fan of the colour but each to there own

If it was each to their own, Scott would have chosen to spray it that colour. As it is, the colour you see is the 80's shade of puke Vauxhall sold it with. You will see a lot of dodgy colours on this forum where original 80's Nova models are still prime, unmolested condition. :p

I'd say a nice black colour mate - Keep it as original as you can and that way no-one will know it's had work done to it :)

Black for me also

I would consider putting a set of 3 spokes on there too

Aye but folk local who don't go online lol Let's be serious, there the people who see the car the most

Online everyone knows but general people in your town will think 'Christ, that's a well looked after old Nova'

Same with mine when I fit the Speedlines, GSi interior etc 'You don't see many like that now'

IMO that's where it matters, not so much about people online looking at pics!

Nice car BTW :)

I'm not a fan of slamming cars on the deck, but that really needs lowering (or a big install). :d

scott.parker
11-02-10, 01:27 AM
lol Cheers dude, but as said to MK, it's parked funny, part on/off drive and makes the suspension uneven on either corner etc, but i think i might lower it 30mm MAX as i dont want to spoil the ome look.

Scott

I know its on uneven ground.

So long as half the rear wheel isnt up in the arch it would look fine i think, some subtle fr biase rake looks good, most of the kits were like that before people got hell-bent on -100mm springs.

excellent mate, bet you're well happy with it, I'd have to say black stone chip as well, my boss always does that on all the cars he paints, some people just leave it with the overspray marks like yours has lol

I think the black will give it a good contrast.

Small update, when the car whent in for it's spray the rear numberplate light unit's clips broke off, so i happened to stumble across this seller on the bay, and bought a BRAND NEW Hella one, OK it's not 100% perfect to the one off the car, but it's the right part code and is for Astra/nova of the era etc.

Pics of old one, and new.

IMO it looks awesome as it is

Plus, Early SR interior is VERY hard to find in good condition.
Central locking would fit, but electric windows would be shocking, gray switch holder and there would be holes in the door cards. JUST NO.

How about........... NO lol

So today i though i best solve something that reared it's ugly head on the way back from the national, i needed to clear my screen of flys etc, and the washers blocked up, so got home and un-blocked them, it lasted all of two days, so i took all the washer lines and pumps out/off the car cleaned them all and the jets very thoroughly through, then turned my attention to the rear one, as they were all being blocked by some type of algae.

So fixed it quite easy, but then when testing the rear it stopped, so i poked a needed in the end, try again, no water, but there was a nasty spraying sound! then i see water dribble through my roof lining! Ahh

Turned out the clear pipe jointing through to the rubber grommet had split and come off in the C pillar, so fixed and were all 100% working! (took 3hrs though!) lol sodding Nova's..

Prob got blocked by a previous owner using washing up liquid, had to clear a corsa one out before, pain in the rear for sure.

Do like this car, im not usually a fan of standard 1.2's, but it looks so innocent. Lowering it will make a huge differance.

Just a quick post to let you all know i had to fill up the fuel on tuesday......

last time i did was the Saturday morning i traveled up to the national, i did 365 miles on £40 of LRP...
i THINK thats better fuel return then my Passat gave.. 235 miles to £30 Diesel.

Thats all..

So on my way home Friday i was thinking, Humm Billings come around quicker then i thought! So on the phone i got to my mate Mike (mikec123) and we arrange a car mince for Sat morning (turn into a good part of the day)

And here's what we did...

Off with the old, and remembering this has been on the car for 23 years, it came off very very easy, not normally the way eh..

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8164/picture987small.jpg

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9058/picture986small.jpg

Then on with the new, (I had to re use the top mounts as i could not find any you can buy complete for love nor money..)
these were whipped off buy my mate down my local Hi Q.

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/933/picture985small.jpg

They could do with a refurbish at some point, maybe over winter, just wanted them on etc, now this is the first time Ive actually lowered and stiffened a standard car before, i whent for Bilstein's (believe there B4 Gas shocks?)
With Apex 40mm stiffened/lowered springs?

Near side.

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/3582/picture988small.jpg

Off side.

Before pics..

http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/6176/picture799small.jpg

After..

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/7463/picture994small.jpg

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/6431/picture993small.jpg

After a drive they seam to settle more..

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/5669/picture995small.jpg

Im totally amazed at how it's transformed the cars handling (i can go round small islands/tight corners without feeling like it's about to roll over now!) it feels just the right amount amount of stiffness, and is IMO the perfect ride hight for the car

And a before/after sat next to the track car for hight reference.

Im in too minds now witch to take, i have put the MK1 down as going on the pass, although im tempted to take the track car i think it will be the MK1 as it's practical for me and the missis like it was at the national, and we are camping again you see, Cheers for they offer mate, but unless they were gratis i would have to say thank you, but no thanks, as i say i sold a set, but im not in any hurry for 3 spokes to go on it, think there a bit "out of place" for the year etc, and if im going to go out of character i may swell fit the MO's lol, Although i do have a set of 5 SR steelies to get refurbished at some point, just not sure still if to go Silver, or Anthracite/silver as they should be??

Glad you approve mate, yeah it got IMO just the right stiffness and stance on it now.

Cheers Nick, I'll think about it mate, it's very tempting, although as it's Billing i wanted to keep it to the OEM looks for more geek points! lol

Mark, they only engine swap i would be doing at this point would be to a 1.3/1.4 with Webber single carb, actually will a F13? 5 speed box give me any benefits fuel wise over the F10 4 speed?

IF... if i got rid of the Track car i would buy a nice everyday and LET this but keep full interior etc, and add plow/wrap around spoiler nothing els.

Should be in for MOT on Tuesday, and should pass with ease as it done less then 3.500 miles in the last 12 months..

Need to source a unit asap so i can work on it over winter, or it's got to go!

Benn
30-10-10, 12:19 PM
So your keeping it then?

scott.parker
30-10-10, 12:28 PM
Well no one will buy a car with no mot will they? plus if i am keeping it i need a unit/garage to work on it, as i cant do the things Ive planed on my parents drive, hated doing that on the track car..

Scott

Benn
30-10-10, 12:30 PM
True, just meant that i was hoping you where keeping it..lol

scott.parker
30-10-10, 12:36 PM

Evil! How can you put an innocent little nova though that pain :(

scott.parker
31-01-11, 11:28 PM
Well it's been sat on my parents drive all winter, don't think its moved since Nov? has no MOT, and more then likely a totally flat battery and sticky rear drums (parked in gear no hand brake on) BADLY needs a clean, as it's got nasty dark runs all down it, need to get some motivation to do some work on this soon, as the missis is starting lessons now.

Scott

12-02-11, 11:25 PM
Well today was the first time i had cleaned the mk1 since billing, and i had not drove/started it since October..

And you guess wrong, it started first crank!  WTF lol

So here she is..

Nice one mate, I knew it would start, dead reliable those little 1200s

scott.parker
25-06-11, 11:47 PM
Right.....

Well as the missus is determined to use this once she passes her test (she's got it on July 18th) So i thought i best go do some things to it.

List is/was..

charge flat battery (in progress)
replace fractured fuel pipes to filter/carb from feed/return take offs (started this)

BUT i then got distracted, and stated cleaning/poking about once the battery was out..

There was lots of old dead leaves and **** stuck behind the plastic heater blower cover in the scuttle tray area, so i stated cleaning out, only to find it's been rotting under the shat in there...

Not good..

http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/2374/photo0654p.jpg

This out..

http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/1327/photo0657j.jpg

So i just thought sod it...

So following on form yesterdays find, i did a bit more digging, you know when you wish you hadn't!

Found this under the black tar stuff in the battery try..

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3669/photo0661lx.jpg

So thought i best crack on, spent all day almost, just cleaning and sorting it out..
Wire wheeled it.

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/3742/photo0662t.jpg

Sanded it.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2061/photo0663z.jpg

crusted it..

http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/5659/photo0664w.jpg

anti-rust primed two coats..

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2152/photo0667o.jpg

In between the primer coats i replaced all the fuel lines up front, as some of them perished and ruptured after winter etc.

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/804/photo0666h.jpg

I'll update the nib down/top coat once done.

Scott

28-06-11, 08:08 PM

Yeah theres 2 in my local Vauxhall dealers that look like they're Jamaica yellow, and there's a Corsa C sxi withe the irmscher chin spoiler and skirts driving about locally that also looks to be jamaica yellow. I keep getting ideas in my head to get one and paint the bottom half dark grey to do a Nova SR type rep lol

I've lots and lots to do to it mate, I'm not really maintaing it very well tbf, need to either get another beam and get it blasted.coated etc, or get the one on it freshed up off the car, need to give the underside a bit of attention to, got some small scab's here an there that need sorting etc.
PLUS needs a massive cut/polish lol

Scott

scott.parker
30-07-11, 01:52 PM
Soo... Car's Taxed as well now, and after a few good days of trawling through loads of insurance company's it's insured, none of them would go agreed policy or classic with Carrie on it till she's got 1 yrs NCB/or held license for 1 yr, and is over 25 etc..

So i had to get a new standard policy with more then, it's for both of us Fully comp,1 yrs full NCB (due to renewal in Sep cant get 2 years)
so it came in a nice and comfy £314!

Not bad, lets just hope "everything crossed" nothing happens to it for 12 months, then i can switch it back to Agreed/classic cover etc.

Your right it does, but it's better then bare metal in my eyes! lol

I have mate, i had it for sale once, no one wanted it, i will be getting it repaired in the new year, then i will be making my mind up on what im doing with it, i will either keep it and SR rep it, or sell it.

Who's is the saloon Scotty?

SimonTW
14-12-11, 05:42 PM
To be honest it's a fair price if its mint. To someone like me wanting a flawless original shell it would be worth that all day. I was chatting to a guy a Protec and he was saying how to meet rally car build deadlines they have driven to Seville to pick up a Nova just because of the condition!

Looking at your other threads it seems you have an eye for the minters too!

Iain
14-12-11, 06:01 PM
Bosh some paint on that patch Scott, anything will do!

scott.parker
14-12-11, 06:24 PM
I might, have a sand at it on another day, and lay some primer and hand splash some Jam yellow on it.

Simon, i would hate to sell it to some one and then it be striped and turned into a rally car, but i guess you sell it and thats that! lol My track car is for sale though!

Mazz that loons mine mate! lol

marc69
14-12-11, 10:47 PM
In my opinion, it is a bueatiful and rare car. Keeping it original is the best way, it is unusual (ie it's not tarted up to look like a SR or sport) and early standard novas in excellent condition do attract attention.

My first Nova was an early one and I did it up to look like an SR. Now that I am much older, I wanted one the same as mine was, it took 2 years of searching to find a good early example that had not been tampered with at all, and I love it!

scott.parker
14-12-11, 11:06 PM
Mazz, no i just want it gone mate, it's got so much money in it, if worst happens i break it and keep parts.

As for SR rep, Burgo good point i might have the seat free IF i replace them, and i see the point in keeping the car standard too, but im bored of it, and feel it now serves no purpose as im not with carrie and its not getting used..

I want to put allot of time and effort in to making a modified saloon, no standard sh1t, no strip out crap either...

Simon the only way i would keep it is if i had a garage/barn etc i could store it in on axle stands for a good few years while i dont want to drive it etc and keep it under a cover mint etc..

But as of yet i dont, so i think it should be given the chance of a new owner to give it some love, or SR rep it, i can keep/run 3 cars again, need to scale down to two, lol four was just stupid! an the corsa sport is sat on the garden too!

So after work this afternoon i decided the car needed to get lower on the front, so i took both wheels off and wound the platforms down by an even 12mm it looks better then i did, and feels less like im pulling a wheelie wheelie driving! lol

I might do it again and go another 10mm as it still looks high lol

and i took it out for blast after and it handles very very good, so much so i got huge oil surge when going one roundabout and left a huge could of burnt oil behind me! can you stop this like on XE's?

Scott

pikey1986

looks cool as mate, the front still looks a touch high, maybe another 12mm would level her out?

scott.parker
18-03-12, 04:16 PM
So decided to take the C spanner to it again! lol

Now i was assuming the shock body's on the coilovers would have the same amount of thread on them, so i was using this to gage how much to wind them down by, so now i have brought the drivers side another 12mm down, and the passengers side another 15mm as it seams to sit higher!

So around 25mm/30mm lower then where they started now, looks a bit better, best thing is i set the bolt on the top camber hole to the most forward position, so Ive got no camber so i wont eat through tyres like if it was on normal shock and 60mm springs etc..

I'm not selling any! i want to keep the hatch as she is, and do a wide euro sort of style thing to the loon, the Astra is a nice daily (though I'm using the 1.2 more at the mo) practical car, and worth less to sell then the 1.2 lol

But cheers guys, shall i try the MO's as they are? clash of two yellow shades anyone??

Never even thought about the wiper arm, lol as that hows its always been, i will do it though.

Yeah i got the wheels for £80 of ebay, they were in a bad way, so i refurbished them all my self, not the best job, but there OK, but hammerite paints just dont dry out! it's got caught and pealed on one spoke already, so need to touch it up..

The tyres were the best thing i did though to get them to look spot on, there 165/50's and finish almost flush to the wheel width etc.

Funny though how a set of gold painted vaux wheels make it look loads better! lol

Well it was the option of send them away for a few days/week top and cost me £30-50 a wheel, or the basement and £30 of paint and a paint sticky boggy nose as i had no mask! lol

Prep/primed all four.

Soooo.. After being let down twice by Framptons, i chased them up twice and both times said they would get back to me, and still have not, so i found an online place to get some new plates made, OK there not alloy pressed, and there not 100% the same as what was on the car, but there in the correct fonts, and have the car sale garage name on the bottom, there all legal and look OK i think, so stop you bitching about the plates now! lol
