I have no idea, just restore it i think, maybe fit bigger servo,MC, or disk/calipers, need to know what will actually do a better job?

Fit some new shock/springs, nothing silly just something to bring it back to life, maybe new OEM stuff?

Any idea's what sport re-builders use?

One thing is now the missis has seen it,been in it she wants it once she can drive, so lets hope i get some use out of her first (the car)

Unfortunately it's both arches!

But I'll get onto it and sort them, it's got tax&MOT till end of Nov 09.

Well i think it's a bit late, the missis loves it now, so she will be after it as soon as she can get passed, but then she's not even applied for a car license, or started any lessons yet.

I'll look into getting a 1.6 servo then, and i think you can fit ate-256mm set up under 14"

Exactly the same spec as mine when I got it, am radio, gm mats/ mud flaps, sr vinyl and window surrounds, im well jealous you got a jamaica yellow one! Mines got those door cards, they're similar to sport ones but not the same, iirc the sports used sr door cards without pockets where as ours have that funny desigin on them. Well not an update of any progress, just that i got some use out of it this weekend just gone, as the weathers been grate lately though i would treat it to a few trips out, and used her all weekend long!

And TBF apart from the slightly less responsive braking then in my other two cars, i really enjoyed the solid/relaxing fun drive i got from the car, so quite and smooth it's hard to believe it's over 22 years old!

Well.... First off i have MOT and tax to sort, both up end of this month, not sure if it will pass MOT, guess it's best just to put in to see.

I got some springs sand blasted, so now need to get them coated up.
Also bought a mk1 flap less cap for it, need "new" GM front drivers wing and rear arch repair lips, my mate has quoted me for replacing the rear lips (drivers inner as well) and to do any repairs/then spray it approx £800, so is it worth it??

Failed on, Sticky rear brake drums, sticking front drivers brake caliper
Near side CV boot corroded/split- got and advisory on the rot on rear arches..

So im leaving it in the garages capable hands to sort the CV/brakes out, then it should have a new MOT :d

But it does has have a new full 12 months MOT on it!

Put me £196 lighter in the wallet, but it's not bad for the work+mot in on the price etc.
Not to forget as well this car is about to turn 23 years old on the 6th of Nov.

SR seats man FFS! Pretty sure you could rob the part from another chair, or just transfer the cloth cover from yours to another base.

Are the arches 'that' bad? gaffer tape FTW!

If the seats can come apart (i dont know, as Ive not look at this one that much, and have no others to compare them too) i will swap the subframe/frame work of the bottom seat section.

As for the arches, yes! they have got worse sat out side in the time Ive had it (but there getting replaced along with drivers wing, then any other rusty areas sorted, spray) but i must add my MOT station is spot on, they will tell you whats what, no rip offs, not passes if it shouldn't etc.

So i washed the car the weekend just gone, also did some detailing to it, took some scratches out with t'cut and polished the area's round the filler cap (also added my early mk1 cap) and some scratching by the door handles, and did some test patches to check on the color, as it's quite flat and faded, need to decide weather it's going to need full spray job or not??

Good news there then mate, are you doing both rear 1/4s then? some people say they're easier than just doing the arch panels as there's less to smooth in.

When mines eventually ready for a respray (one day lol) I think i'd go for full 1/4 panels.

haveing trust in your painter is a must to be fair i wont let any outher painter touch my nova or cav as simons work is so good and his eye for detail.

On a down note though, rang Beevers today, they have no MK1 wings, or arch lips in till mid Feb, so need to source them from some ware els (And pay postage! BALLS!) knew i should of got them when i got the other rear lips damn it!

And yep i cant wait to see it all done now, looks like it's going to be a FULL re-spray also now, as was going to try leave the roof/bonnet if we can, but due to the paint type it will look odd, you'll see the difference we think.

Re use the original, as there stick on, and he's sure it can be done.

Was going to originally not spray the roof, he was going to try paint it and blend the paints by using top coat lacquer to add a aged effect, but then found the paint only comes in 2 pack.

So popped down the body shop today and did some things on the car, first off i knew there was a problem with the drives seat, i know it had a "crack" in the frame.... So i took it all apart for a better look.

BUT did not expect to find this..

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/1145/picture515small.jpg

So hefty buggers give that some hammering over time eh!

Just going to plate it either side of the frame, and seam it up, not worth getting another seat for that.

So a few update shots of the shell's progress.

Drivers side rear is almost read for paint, so is the front wing, it's fitting loads better now.

http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/8639/picture523small.jpg

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2153/picture524small.jpg

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/1010/picture525small.jpg

The fit by the A pillar is perfect now, as before it was quite high, well chuffed, and also the repair to the passenger side bottom is almost finished too..

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/189/picture526small.jpg

And the near side rear repair lip turned up, so he got it on asap, heres some pics of it with fiberglass on, and the overlap technique he uses inside.

While i was there Wyatt got me to take the door locks and handles off, as he didn't want to damage the door cards etc.

Also how do you remove the in car adjuster handles for the wing mirrors, as i cant figure it out, none of my other nova's had them! lol

So just been down to see the car, it's almost ready to paint now, Should be in primer by Friday i hope.
Plenty of masking up to do.. Gland it's not me doing it.

So here some pics, I'll start at the rear and work my way round, all little bits of surface rot are treated and ready for final prep.

http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/121/picture553small.jpg

Had the rear arch lips taken back by half the original size (5mm reduced?) this is to retain the OE look, but hopefully make it essayer if in future i wish to fit 15/16" wheels.

Now onto the sills, luckily there allot better then i thought they were, as there seamed to be rust all over them, but it was poorly applied stone guard with some surface rust coming through, so there all ground back here and im very happy theres nothing to bad to sort.

Well when we first stated looking at it it looked OK, then we saw there was quite bit more rot in then we thought, so i was never going to find a "mint" 2nd hand wing in time, and all pattern wings are out off stock till March time, as if we could of got one he would of cut the bottom part off and replaced it with new from a patter wing etc, so this was last resort, fabricate something to suite, it's come out better then i thought it might.

And before anyone asks yes the door bump strips are still on, we decided it was a better idea to try just mask them up and then paint, there's a slight lip for the paint to go behind, but after discussing it we thought it would be better then them coming off and then they go all curved and not stick back on properly after.

Cant wait now. :d

Speaking of using waxoyl you can get an aerosol type can from the bilt hamber website called dynax S50 i think, it comes with a multidirection nozzle and quite a long tube for putting in chassis legs etc and getting a good all around coverage, i think this is what i'll be using on my mk1!

Speaking of using waxoyl you can get an aerosol type can from the bilt hamber website called dynax S50 i think, it comes with a multidirection nozzle and quite a long tube for putting in chassis legs etc and getting a good all around coverage, i think this is what i'll be using on my mk1!
Yeah I used that at work today on a viva gt, it pumps out quite slowly but at the same time gives you good control over where you want it.

Looks really good all painted mate :thumb:

No, I bought the Dinitrol from them and did it myself.
Layed out a tarpaulin on the drive, wheeled the shell out and used my compressor to fill all the cavities. Used six large screw on bottles of the stuff. Check out the pics in my WIP, the link is on my profile page.

Once the missis has had her fun i may go full SR rep,as always wanted a Jamaica SR, but would possibly put a LET in, or stay standard looking with coilovers/some cav expression's and let for street sleeper, but this is all ifs and buts lol

Iain, i am tempted to modify it yes, im looking for a snow plow, and have Ad's 14"SR steelies, i know it's not really modifying it, but it's not as it rolled out the factory lol.

And Cheers to everyone who's commented on how good it's looking, cant wait to get it mint and show it at billing, for me it's the originality of the interior that makes the car special to me. :d
