Wasn't aware of this build - ace idea!! Rep coming your way.
With moving the engine over more to the gearbox side and running the wider f28 has it greatly effected your steering lock or did you literally only move it 10mm or so?
I have no idea mate as it hasn't seen being a complete working front end since it was stripped, its only had running gear on loosely for moving the car around with no engine in
just seen the paint pics mr gunn, and omfg its stunning... now gerrit done!

Looking cracking fella. :thumb: Hows the clearance on the inner rear arches with the width of the alloys?
Paint/welding looks fecking ace mate.
Hope you get it running soon as I'm dying to know how it runs & handles. ;)
Cheers dude, ive not actually fitted the wheels yet as i need to order some shortened wheel bolts but i cant see it being a major issue (famous last words)
Faster Faster.
Not finished yet lol
Only joking mate keep up the Good work :thumb:
Come on you have had plenty of time now where are the updates :thumb: lol
I havent checked this thread in ages due to thinking you'd probably give up. However I stand corrected. Its looks like you and your pals are doing an excellent job in sorting the problems you've come across! I also love the wheels and think they will go perfectly well with the cars theme. If there's a thread deserving rep at the moment it must be this one.
Nick.

Any work planned this weekend mate? Looking forward to seeing your next update :thumb:
na not on this he will be chucking in an xe in another project of his
That wont be happening this weekend mate, might get the clutch/flywheel/gearbox etc all bolted back on the engine tomorrow, start thinking about finishing this off.
thats what i want to hear :thumb:
Update WOOOOOOOOOOOO
About time eh? Not a big one but progress is progress, nipped into vauxhall last week and asked nicely for some tork settings, the service dept bloke was a complete **** but one of the mechanics was kind enough to help, he printed me off 3 sheets of settings (for every bolt that needs toking up on a Corsa VXR) and said here you go, you can do your whole car now! He was then amazed when i told him i dont own a Corsa and the engines going in a Nova :p, so armed with my 3 page list i fitted my flywheel, clutch and gearbox last night, had a little bit of play in the clutch lever arm but i though this must be as im running an xe based flywheel with a custom '1mm drop LET clutch kit' So just to be sure i rang a mate whos running the same set up on his Corsa LET, he nipped round tonight and confirmed its exactly the same as his and he has no trouple at well over 300BHP :d. Im happy now, things can start moving on! Pics...

looking good gunny
Are you going to be running the engine standard? Just wondered because after driving a corsa vxr the other day i really wasnt impressed at all. I know they weigh alot more than a nova
They seemed to run around the 16 mark at PV for the most part, so at a guess are somewhere between an XE/LET?

A Corsa VXR with a re-map, exhuast and decent panel filter/airbox mod see's around 230-240bhp, thats with a sports cat, mines going to be running a straight through system, aftermarket management (omex), so the map should be better than the one that get's loaded up onto each VXR, and more boost so hopefully i'll see at least 230bhp with a lot less weight, i know Corsa VXR's are pretty bob on the road but thats as standard dragging a bus load of weight arund compared to the nova :d

XE Novas run in 14's with a competent driver. I wasn't impressed with the Corsa VXR's at PVS and i'm glad i didn't go through with buying an Arctic.
I didn't see any corsa vxr engined novas though lol I meant the corsa VXR's are around 16's roughly, so guessed they must be slightly down on astra vxr being slightly lighter so guessed about 180bhp as standard :)
lee-loon
07-09-09, 06:57 PM
Because they are only 190bhp and heavy and new.
How much does the engine weigh compared to a XE?
Sounds good forgot you were running aftermarket stuff. Should be good and its a new engine so will be much much smoother than a let
Yeh hopefully mate, was going to go big turbo big pipes big exhuast etc but then some of the driveability goes out the window eh.. but on the other hand its not going to get driven loads, maybe in future i'll try and get it over 300bhp, if regal have managed 300 on standard management i should be able to lol
If i ever get it finished

Take one electronic throttle body and tear it apart:

Using the gear that connects the motor to the butterfly on the top right and a cable carrier from a c16xe throttle body:

All bolted up:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/5f1f9509.jpg
Also made up a little bracket to hold the throttle cable gromet thing in place, just got to weld it a bit and bolt it on then providing I get the right belt Monday it's engine back in time and start wiring :D
Nice to see some progress at last ! lol

I hope youre going to badge it as a VXR so when people point and laugh about yet another twit with a 'vxr' badge on something, you can point and laugh as they fly backwards in a hail of tyre screech and wastegate chatter lol
Lol nice little fantasy moment there spud? I am badging it as a vxr but I'm making my own vxr badge using an early corsa a 'corsa' badge and an early 'vauxhall' badge off a nova, got to look factory ;)

Just read from start to finish mate. Should be a real weapon when it's done.... Pity it isn't White then you could put the nurburgring chequers up it . Love the colour it is though..... Although its probably faded a bit sitting about. lol
Will you not get..
1, un-metered air going in as there is no casing over the tb?
2, get a lots of dirt and other crap in there?
Where that cover is is just the motor and linkage to turn the butterfly, if air could travel between the throttle body itself and the motor housing then surely every corsa vxr would leak boost?

A Nova with the backing track of a Veyron, love it lol

I actually prefer the sound of a balls out 4 pot or a japcrap turbo tbh, the veyron sounds like a V8 on speed, anyway... back to the vxr nova? lol
edit: in fact, check out the smooth reporter style transitioning. I actually really like the sound of the Z16LER and the way it turbo stalls at low boost on the standard gear, on which note, back to gunny in his thread lol

Aftermarket management going on it, so no wiring issues with standard looms etc
So in other words it'll be running tomorrow afternoon!? lol

Not as of yet, couldn't get my bolts in time so couldn't get the car rolling to do the bits I wanted, hopefully this w/e will be more of a success
Cracked on a bit today, cut out the strengthening plates on the bottom arms to lower the tie bars:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/54200655.jpg
Tie bars and suspension bolted up then dropped it on the floor for the first time in about a year :)

Really glad to see some progress mate, oh and give offplot or nova sport a shout about the old mk1 boot badges, good luck getting them i found it hard work for my mk1, if your not fused you can have my old ones??
Check the mk1 thread for pics.
Scott
ive got my 'vauxhall' and 'nova' badges, but i want to make my own 'vxr' badge so i erm aquired a 'corsa' badge off of a pre '84 corsa a in ibiza (sorry ) and i just need a pre '84 vaux badge for the VX, if all that makes sense lol
Edit: never planned to have brand new badges :/ mission impossible comes to mind

Looks better without as well IMO lol
Is the colour the original then ?
Also really nice to see something different being built :thumb:

Ah right, rough idea of what page to look for?

Erm one million and 4 i think lol
Page 16 :)
More like page 32 lol Sort of used your method, it's not all the best fit on mine but it does fit and everything works.
Take one of the best battery trays I've had:

Do this to it:

Then some 2mm plate:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/f352b8c8.jpg
I did get the servo etc in but didnt take any pics, I'll get some next weekend if I'm not working and with a bit of luck it might be getting wired up :p
Has anyone got a c16xe throttle body knocking about? If not I'm thinking about using a c25xe but they're 68mm? Might be a bit big
Looking good.. Love this build

Sorry mate I forgot I changed the no. Of posts per page so I get double what you would standard - good work btw
Lol not a problem just meant I got to refresh through your build :p
Hopefully some point over the next couple of weeks we'll start wiring :thumb:
Just read this from page 1, awesome build.
+Rep, i'll be following this.
Hey all, not been able to go near the nova for a couple of weeks as ive had an operation on my 2 veg :( but have bought some bosch 470cc injectors and started digging parts out of my bedroom ready for when im better so basically just letting ya'll know ive not turned lazy tw@ again and a PVS appearance may still be on the cards :)
Please get this done for pv, im dying for a looksie,
Hope your veg recover soon mate lol
Made a bit of progress on the car today, got fuel tank fitted, doing fuel lines and putting the dash back in tomorrow so we can mount the ecu and start wiring the engine.
As well as working on my car were on a mission to put an old redtop nova (I came to png national in it a couple of years ago) back on road, my little brothers GSI rep painted and road worthy and Simons corsa painted and roadworthy for PVS, bit of a mission but we've got time and bodies so may be achievable :)

so are u try to get to pv in this mate
Well unfortunately didn't get much done on the vxr on Sunday as the day was occupied by the black XE nova, two seized and fecked wheel bolts and a majorly rotten sill:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/c54c01eb.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/d5e0d601.jpg
Peeled back the carpet and pushed my screwdrive out of the car in a couple of places too :/ so new sill ordered and cutting the old one off tonight. Got the wheel bolts off at work today (removed king nuts and brought the wheels down with the drums attached)
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/c04c8ce3.jpg
Ordering my exhaust parts tonight so they should be here by the weekend then other than brake lines everything underneath the vxr should be finito :) watch this space
Ahhh so thats how you did the wheel bolts ! lol
Cracked on with the vxr this weekend, modified my exhaust and fitted it like so:
Welded the exhaust on little brackets to the work bench:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/e29029b9.jpg
Then chopped out box #1:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/c46249c7.jpg
Pipe tacked in:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/339f5f3a.jpg
Box #2:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/c5bbff02.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/8cf23b59.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/b044ba36.jpg
All welded up:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/a5183073.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/874991b6.jpg
Then fitted it to the car, this is how the tailpipe sat:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/5780e586.jpg
Underneath with my trusty Fred perry propping it up lol:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/6a66789f.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/6ee625ac.jpg
Downpipe welded to centre section:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/f14ac69d.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/b33c5016.jpg
I don't like this style of tailpipe on mk1's personally, just don't sit right for me:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/1a8a46fe.jpg
So I got this :D:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/a5741dd9.jpg
And did this:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/a2cea535.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/d9f9b30c.jpg
Once I was happy with that I moved on to the gear linkage, wasn't much of a pain at all didn't take long, got all 6 gears but obv I know that will be a different story once it's running :/ :
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/4f3ba5b5.jpg
The plastic link rod has now been replaced by a metal one too, I will probably make up a Rose jointed linkage in the future.
Also got the brake pedal/servo and mc mounted, dash back in (b@st@rd thing!) pretty happy with how I've got on, been helping out with the black XE and White corsa too.
Shouldn't be long now...
Woohooo, progress and good progress too, keep it up and i might just have to take that crate to pv lol
That's why I'm working hard spudders, it's gonna cost me a few hundred quid but it will be worth it just for the free beer aha
Lmfao i would call you a cheapskate but that would be a rather lost insult haha, ill happily bring it though if it gets you to finish this:d
How you got on with yours btw?
Not three bad so far, its in, gear linkage is connected and can get all the gears, it 'should' be wired up, but needs the ecu switched live connecting and the start/charge loom fitting up in the bay, exhust needs fabbing up and the fuel lines extending to the chassis leg as the pump is going to be mounted on a GTE/GSi hanging bracket, not too much to do but im stuck on a couple of bolts for my alternator as the mount is less than quarter of the size of the old multi-v one so my bolts are now too long lol
Oh and btw, wtf goes on with the levitating nova in the back of the last couple of picslol
What you playing at?? Lol nah don't sound like your doing too bad mate. Look forward to seeing yours looks beaut. You keeping the cesaro's?
Oi ive only been on it a couple of days biatch lol
Yep staying on the cesaros, eventually they will be going white i reckon, in keeping with the oe look:thumb:
Poor effort lol, my first XE: engine out Friday night, welded etc, Saturday went WALES to get engine and fuel tank whilst my bro painted the bay, Sunday put it all in and took it down the road ;)
Good man :thumb: not thought about maybe am anphracite colour wheel against the blue?
Yes but you can weld and have a welder, i still need my mate to fab the exhaust for me and im not wanting to rush it and mess up or miss something, she wont be on the road till the end of april anyways as i cant afford to tax her so there is no massive rush:p
I couldn't at the time but I had my dad to do it :p lol. Nah don't blame you mate, mine had to be done so I could go work in it that week. Better to take your time where you can, like me on this vxr project haha!
Exactly, just not quite as long as youve taken:p
