Todays update.
As the paint had gone very flat on the outside i couldnt find anything to bring a shine back to it.
Then wile i was polishing some bits up i thought what the hell and had ago at the wing with the autosole metal polish.
I was well pleased with the outcome so did the rest of the car.
Happy days.

Since doing combe i ain't done much to the car untill today. I also did a few mods to myself aswell LOL.
I started to fit my solid engine mounts yesterday but it started to rain so i fitted the old one back in and black man pinched my finger when a socket slipped.

so today as it was nice and sunny out i had another go.
The good news is i got them fitted it didnt rain but i did decide to take a 1/4 off my thumb nail happy days.

Chris, are your preferred wheel size 14"?

Car looks good anyhow & appears to go very well in the vids. Nothing squeaking, rattling or falling off, over the norm.

I was running my 14's as they had a new set of hankooks on them from last year that i never got to use.

Ernie

Ive been having a few issues with the box keep dropping its oil out if left with the car parked only at certian angles.
Ive traced it back to the drive shaft seal on the passenger side.
So today i head of to skurrys (local vx dealer) and got a new seal.I will hopefully be fitting this tomorrow and then fill the oil up again.
just wondered can this be done by just leavering the old seal (once drive shaft has bean removed) then tap the new on in ?
Any imfo would be good as never changed one.

fearless
05-03-09, 08:33 PM
Yep - simply remove shaft and prise out the seal - tap in the new one and refit shaft - top up gear oil and roadtest

Make sure the seal is not damaged when tapping back in - metal spring in the seal to stay intact and careful not to damage the new seal when putting the shaft back in

I thought that was just the case but thought i would check on here first.
Thank you.

Ash
05-03-09, 10:57 PM
When I changed my driveshaft seals for the first time they were a right bi-atch. Second time wasn't easy. Ideally you want a 36-42mm socket to drive it in square (which I never had). I ran a little univeral blue round the edge too ;)

Ernie
06-03-09, 08:01 AM
cheers Ash i will make sure to use the big hammer lol.

Ernie
06-03-09, 02:58 PM
Got it all done and seams to of done the trick.
first off had to get the old one out and i managed this with a hammer chissel and mole grips.
Once out i cleaned the area where new seal was going to sit then put the new one back in.
Ash mentioned a large socket but as the biggest i had was a 30 i went searching in the garage and found a clamp for holding the coil in on a nova.
I opened it till it was the right size for the seal then rested that against the seal and a bit of wood i found.
All i did then was tap the bit of wood with the hammer and it pushed the new seal home.
Job done.
One jacked up the car.

Ive been doing some work over the weekend on the car.
First of it started to have a funny clunk from the drivers side.seeing as i was going pass my mates garage i thought it would pop it in just to make sure that the wheel wasnt about to fall off LOL.
3 hrs later and many tools borrowed i found the problem.
The inner cv boot had decided to spit all its grease out without the boot being split or the clip hadnt come off.
Were the grease had come out the cv was dry making it clunk.
greased it up and it was all sorted.
thanks to
Mike and AndyN/W Garage.
So that was saturday out the way so today i took the car to Dars to help fit the rear diffuser.
after a few hrs it was all fitted but i could only get phone pic's as by the time i got home it was dark and raining.

It goes back to the beam but not over it.

08-03-09, 09:21 PM
I didn't think we were going to be able to finish it when you arrived with those pieces of tinfoil you wanted me to use as brackets. Thankfully your car hadn't rotted away at the rear like mine, so we could use the rear apron and a different bracketery approach. Worked out well in the end :thumb:

Just a question/suggestion. Is it possible to raise the angle more by cutting out the rear valance/bumper more, assuming there's no wheel well on the car? Possibly a bit too much downforce on the rear for the drag involved?

Ernie
09-03-09, 11:50 PM
i can angle it up or down as it can pivit (sc)

MK999
10-03-09, 12:00 AM
was just thinking of options for huge angle on it, at the moment it's sat just below the bumper, so cutting some of the rear out it could be raised a few inches at the trailing edge? I've no idea if the effect would be too extreme, just something that struck me looking at the pics

Ernie
10-03-09, 07:51 AM
The bumper is already cut for it to fit.

Im thinking about putting my spare set of white gte wheels on for now as the rainsports are very soft for when its wet but not so good when its dry as they wear out to quick lol.
There are uniroyals on the gte wheels so they will be fine for day to day use.

Err, why bother then? Bigger rad = more water + more rad = more weight:tard: anddddddd right past the front wheels where you really don't want it.

On second thoughts go for itlol

Ive noticed that a lot of the new bmw's around town are now using white led number plate lights and after a long search all i could find was front side lights and everything but the push in type a nova use's.
So i ordered a set for a tigra and thought what the hell.

post them to me and i will soilder some wire on and you will have to have a play like i did lol

scott.parker
26-03-09, 06:18 PM
lol just need to know what i need(plugs for oil sensors etc),and what pin to soilder what wire's too!

Ernie
26-03-09, 06:25 PM
Take the hole unit apart and you will see 4 pins.
All i did was soilder 4 wires on then some heat shrink over the top.
now this is the hard bit.
Were the pins went through there will be 4 little holes.
I used a reamer and made this into 1 big hole and fed the 4 new wire's through.
Now to this day i still dont know which one goes to which as i just did trial and error till i got it write.
1 will go to an earth (brown on car loom)
1 will go to a switched feed (black on car loom)
1 will go to a light feed (green grey on car loom)
1 will go to the oil pressure gauge (blue yellow on car loom)

I just kept switching around till it all worked.

scott.parker
26-03-09, 06:42 PM
lol, OK dude, i might try find the wire-to-pin correct colorings, Cheers

Ernie
31-03-09, 07:46 AM
I fitted some differant wheels today.
I really like the black ones but the tyres are wearing a bit quick.(i think i need the car set up)
If you can remember i was given a 1.8 cav a few weeks months ago which had a full new set of michelin tyres.
Ok they are only 175/70/14 but for free i thought what the hell.
They were on steel wheels and i had a spare set of gte wheels with knackered tyres so got them changed over yesterday.
There only going to be used as every day tyres as they are like baloons lol

31-03-09, 01:50 PM

Dew to being old and sensible i will be driving within the limits.
as you should do.

Plus it will be spending most the time sitting on these in the garage rather than wrecking my good tyres.

Also whenever it has gone to any meets or done any distance it has been on the ceseros not these.

The white wheels are back off now after a mate was interested in them in a deal for my old set of cav slabs which need 2 tyres.
They are hurrican grey with 195/45/15's so much better for playing on than these.
Im picking them up once i feel a bit better.

Ernie
21-04-09, 03:57 PM
ive not got much of an update apart from i did a nut/bolt check today and fitted some new plugs.
Alls well apart from the passenger side shaft still keeps popping out so will have to keep an eye on it.
Im only out once on saturday so should be ok.
Also i took it for a little run today and bung some v/max in ready.
Its the first time ive driven it in over 2 weeks and omg i forgot what an animal it is.
see you all on saturday.

Ernie
24-04-09, 08:04 PM
I think ive pixed the drive shaft problem today.
For some reason it kept moving only by a mm or two but it was enough to make it leak gearbox oil.
So today i took the passenger side shaft out and noticed that there was a few little dents in the little circlip so i removed one from another shaft and fitted it.
Ive got the car back on all four and and moved the shaft but it hasnt leaked.
Ive put some cardboard under the car for tonight.
I expect to get a few drips from what wasnt cleaned off but not a huge puddle as before.
Tomorrow is another day tho.
See you at combe.

2) clean the engine bay after the dip stick came out on the second run.

It was fun.

Ernie
27-04-09, 07:50 AM
Some pics of before and after its engine bay clean up.
I think this could of been the reason for the smoke from the passenger front wheel as it was caked in oil.
It still went fine tho lol.

Bad times for car enthusiasts :( I have an interview on wednesday that I hope is gonna help me fund my car addiction over the summer, worked there before and know half the management so I should be alright :) Hopefully you'll find something and be able to carry on!

100 pages woop woop.
It went well but not sure yet as the round trip is more like 100miles a day so 500miles a week just to get to work and back dont sound to good for my old bangers.
The job is mine if i want it tho as the interview went well.
As for the nova.
Tv fame with another nova of mine.
