    Default Igntion Switch - Help

Just gone to swap my ignition switch for a new one, as mine was busted, iv'e managed to get the old switch out but neither that or the new one will go back in. I've got a random little bit of metal that came out too, but don't know where or how it goes. The haynes manual is useless here as it says refitting is the reversal of removal, removing it was easy but getting it back in is proving to be a bitch

do you think the random bit of metal could be for the steering lock? if so then there maybe a spring to go behind it and if you havnt got that, it might be stuck inside somewhere
