Took it to Donington yesterday for a test. First session went OK, the new beam was very oversteery but in a predictable sort of way. Second session it thew me off the track, made a horrible noise turning right and I went back to the pits to investigate.
Upon further inspection the wheel had touched the tie link bolt and machined a big groove off it. Confused, I did some testing in the pits to try and replicate the issue before going on track and risking my life and a red flag only to get a right royal bollocking for doing "donuts" and almost sent home there and then. Apparently she "wasn't born yesterday it was obvious what I was doing". Riiiigggghhhtt.
Then we noticed the geo had changed to positive camber after my testing so it was loaded on the trailer and took home.
....to change the beam back to the original! Took me and Harvey about 30 mins with the use of a lot of cable ties.
Positive camber yo:
Hmmm, it actually looks like the new beam is missing the strengthening here!
Oh yeah, that'll do it!
With the old beam on, I towed it back to Donington and got a session in before 1pm lunch!
This was entirely my own fault, I didn't twig the plates were missing when fitting, despite the tell-tale signs. The previous owner had a grp-A 2 pot set-up which does not require these parts - d'oh!

Back at the circuit, I did a full afternoon session ignoring some severe wheel wobble due to the unbalanced wheels. I was actually using some well worn R888s instead of the usual Michelin slicks as a test.
I actually really rated the R888s over the slicks. They gave much more feedback by squeeling when you pushed them too hard, wore much more evenly and over-all were much more enjoyable to drive. I'm going to move to semi slicks instead of slicks from now on, despite more than likely slower laps.
Here's a session towards the end of the day:

It's a mk2 Astra GTE 'secondary' rear ARB. Apparently they have two, one Nova-style one through the middle of the beam and this one attached externally. I believe it's the same as a mk3 Astra GSi and also Saab 900s and maybe 93s.
Thanks to our local lovable rally man Paul (rallymarshal) for the ARB xxx
cheers, car looks planted in the 2nd video.
What system is this please Iain ?
Cheers
