    Missing the point totally - much of the fun is in changing things.

    I took the engine and gearbox out of the Daewoo Lanos today, with a view to swapping all the hydraulic clutch bits onto my F13 gearbox in the Nova.

    Not quite as straightforward as I had hoped! The Lanos obviously has a slightly different gearbox casing, as the bracket for the clutch slave cylinder will only attach by one out of two bolts;

    As you can see, there is a design difference at this part of the gearbox, where the second bracket bolt attaches on the Lanos;

    NOVA;

    LANOS;

    Anyway, not the end of the World, the clutch release arm bolts in OK, although I have posted a question in 'Mechanical' as I need help with knowing how much 'throw' is need on a clutch release bearing!

    Anyway, the Lanos has donated the important bits for the conversion;

    The Daewoo engine is quite interesting, based on the 1300/1400 OHC 8v engine, there may be some useful parts for people using these engines in their Novas, as they have fuel injection, alloy sump, power steering pumps, different engine mounts, different alternator and probably more that I haven't found yet.

    If anyone's interested, let me know and I will post up a bunch of photos for reference.

    Looks interesting that, can you not put your cluster in the lanos casing?
    If Carlsberg did Motor clubs, then IDMC would probably be the best motor club in the world.

    Hi Ben,

    Yes, that may be a possibility, although there may be other differences which might prevent that, I'm not sure.

    But this Lanos casing does feel heavier (I haven't weighed it, it's just the impression I get), and I do like the fact that the F13 'box has the access plate to allow the clutch to be accessed in-situ.

    With thanks to Jezz (Toymex on here) I now have a nicer looking manifold for the engine - a BTB one which has been coated by Camcoats;

    I've heard people say the daewoo piston rods are thicker and stronger than the vauxhall rods. Would be interesting to see them together in comparison.
    Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming, “DAMN, what a ride!!”

    Interesting, thanks. I'm keeping hold of the engine just in case it becomes useful for me (or someone else) at some point in the future.

    Time to replace the ancient old switches and fuse box (with ceramic fuses!) in my Nova;

    I'm using the excellent CARTEK stuff (they've also supplied me a battery isolator kit) - they are fairly local to me and did me a great deal on the parts.
