Been contemplating what engine to put in my nova, was planning on a redtop but I can get an x16xe for a quarter of the price and I know it will be lighter but would I be sacrificing a lot of performance

welcome to png & thankyou for reopening the big can of worms that is the big-block vs. small block argument..
as with everything, there are plus & minus points.
the x16xe will be a lot easier to install, with no mount/chassis mods or transmission swaps.
It's not a can of worms, he wanted a big block but found a small block for less.... But wants to know how good they are.
they are a great engine and easily choooonable etc
I'm worried about fitting it and thinking its too slow however I wasn't planning on doing much to a redtop so theoretically I could tune it up to be similar but I dont want to spend missives amounts otherwise I might aswell just put a redtop in
What are you driving at the moment?
They like to throw rods out often so I never bother with them anymore.
If your after handling and less power do it..

i'd kill myself with either
Currently has a 1.2 8v but im normally using a bmw 320d but that's too slow aswell think iv decided on redtop
hows your mechanical, and welding skills ? as theres alot more work involved in fitting the 2.0.
the front end of the car needs to be stitch welded along the seams, and shell strengthening plates are sometimes used, as well as inner wing modifications for alternator clearance.
it costs a fair bit more in parts too. driveshafts, and engine/gearbox mounts spring to mind. other things needed too.
one plus side of fitting the 2.0 is the wiring's easier, as it doesnt have an immobiliser or gearbox speed sensor (early engines dont anyway)
you are rewarded with more speed tho, at the end of the day.
its not an easy job, but id say if youve done an engine transplant before, and are a bit of a speed freak, and feeling up to the task, go for it.
check this guide out. the info will help :
