    Default Charity Banger Run

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

    Good Afternoon All,

In 3 weeks’ time myself and a work colleague (Ally) will be doing the banger run 2014.

The 2014 Banger Run will be one of the hardest yet. Although not the longest, the bangers will be pushed to the limit as teams navigate their way across 5 of Europe’s top 10 roads in £250 cars decorated as anything that’s very British

The car.. a 1990 Toyota Celica, bought for a £165. All work on the car is funded by us and all donated money will go direct to help for heros.

The destination is Lake Como in Italy and we will be tackling 5 of Europes top 10 driving roads. 4 mountain passes in Switzerland, Furka, Stelvio, Grand St Bernard and the Klausen all feature as part of the route. We are really looking forward to taking part this year and support this fantastic charity.

Help for Heroes is ‘about the blokes’, the men and women of our Armed Forces. Since 2007, H4H has helped hundreds of men and women who have been wounded, injured or become sick in the line of duty since 9/11.

Help for Heroes strives towards 100% effectiveness – so that for every £1 donated, £1 will go directly to helping wounded Servicemen and women. So, we do exactly what we say on the tin – your donations go directly to supporting the wounded boys and girls.

This being our first year our target is £500. We have now raised over £650 and updating this onto our just giving page.

If anyone can spare a minimum donation of £1, your support will be very much appreciated.

If you have any question please feel free to contact me.

    How to donate?

    Text GGUH56 and your amount e.g £2 to 70070
Or donate via just giving here - https://www.justgiving.com/Ben-Nightingale/

    Good Evening All,

I have now completed my help for heros banger run 2014.

At present between the 25 teams that took part, we have raised just shy of £35,000.

Here are a few snaps of the Celica on route.

Well done on doing this, I take it the Celica made it alright then.

Did it cost you a lot over the few days to do this then?

Celica made it back with a burst cv boot. Was expecting more considering it made all the passes.. Furka, stelvio etc.

Cost was about £400 on fuel. That was around £2300 miles. 5 x campsites at £20 each per night. Food and drink is cheap apart from Switzerland!! And we used a couple of toll roads in Southern France.

So in total the 2 of is spent about £400 each for the 6 days away.

That's very good value for a scenic cruise of the best roads, do it in a nova if you can find one next time for that money

Many people were saying to use the GSi. No chance.

What shocked me most was the loss of power at altitude! The Celica has probably 130 bhp and it felt like 50 on some climbs.
