    Default Speedo problem

    Hi all,

Im having a problem with my speedo i was driving along all was fine then when I looked what speed I was doing it had stopped working. I have just removed cable from both clocks and gearbox and the cable is turns fine, I removed the speed sensor from gearbox that looks to be fine the plastic cogs look ok and turn free. what else could cause it not to work could it be the clocks ? any help would be good. Regards Stew

The easy way to test it is take the clocks out and drive it up the road, if the pin in the cable is spinning you know it must be the clocks.
if it is the clocks you could just get a 2nd hand set.

cant see why not, mk1 and mk2 don't have the same plug but as long as they are from the same mk you should be ok.

Bit of an update on this been messing about with it for a few hours trying diffrent things with no joy so first off I have tried 3 diffrent sets of clocks and still nothing, I removed both ends to check tthat they were spinning and all was ok even tried a new cable fitted it all back together took for a drive nothing removed gearbox end used a drill to spin cable and it worked, removed the gearbox speed tranducer that was spinning fine attatched the cable to both clocks and tranducer and turned by hand and the needle moved so I know everything is working but not when its all built back up. I looked inisde the box and the metal cog looks ok. I need to jack car up and spin wheel to see if cog moves with tranducer out. Does anyone have any ideas ? where can I get a new gearbox speed tranducer ?

It could be where your speedo cable attaches into your gearbox has rounded off and is no longer a square fitment or the plastic cog into the gearbox hasn't located properly.
