Job advice - maintenance engineers/fitters (electrical too)

Just after a bit of advice from anyone working in the above field.

I currently work as a machine tool engineer and have a BTEC National and NVQ3 in Mechanical Engineering - been doing this for 7 and half years now

I really fancy a change into fitting/maintenance engineering but I feel I'm not currently qualified to do this - mainly because most jobs in this field require some degree of electrical focus. I believe I would be fine mechanically due to my experience of working with hand tools and various fitting processes

After looking on google I have found the '17th Edition Certificate' - is this a full recognised qualification which would satisfy job requirements?

No. Its purely a list of regs. Just like how doing your CompEx doesnt make you an electrician either. Go back to college and get some more units.
A fitter and electrician are completely different trades so im very surprised all the jobs need 'electrical focus'. Is that not specific to one job opening? it depends on what industry you work in too I guess. Unlikely you can blag it with a 4 day course.

If you are a qualified 'engineer' you should have a degree anyway or been able to convince an institute that you are otherwise competent.
