Benn's on going build

Your a very brave man benn, I wish I was like you as I hate the sunroof fitted to my nova and want a new roof skin, I really hope the replacement goes smoothly mate !

What's been done so far hasn't been hard. I've had the back up of the bodyshop tho, that make's it a bit less of a worry.

Small up date. I wont add all the pics as they arnt that interesting...

So start by cleaning all the joins off..









Now all the spot welds and bits can be seen. We can drill them out..





Then you start cutting...





Off...









Bit i had to buy, will be welded in here. Handy holes to line up.



You can see here that the sides in the rails have been left at the mo,



These are a rolled weld (a wheel the rolls along and welds as it goes) So cant really be drilled, so gonna have to grind the top of the weld off..

Old roof, gonna be used for metal to weld with and stuff...



You can see here where water has got in...



All the bits like that have now been cleaned up, sealant removed and been etch primed. As metal bonda will be used on them again, then i'll give them a coat of paint once the roofs on.

Got the new skin all unwrapped...

Part number for anyone that might need it...




Guess it's from where it's been stored over the years. Where really worried there would be one each side and it would be kinked thought the middle, luckily there isn't. (dent all the way across)

Test fitted.







Now the skin isn't fully on but theres still a big gap... Hopping it will touch when the gutters are sorted and it's sat down all the way.

I bet it's so annoying getting brand new gm parts that are very rare and they have dents ect in them! But good work man that's a big job

It is very annoying. Got it so would be the best way, but then when you think that it was made in 1990 (from the sticker on it) then OCP got it who knows when, so thats 22/23 years old, 2 warehouses, 1/2 moves. No box or anything, thin cheap bubble wrap. It's a hell of a lot better than it could be....

Putting the skin back on will be the biggest job.
