plumbing peeps
To me this is one big confusion
The thing is at the moment my gas bill is sky high so to help bring it down a bit im hoping that i flick this on for an hour before showers and stuff the hot water will come from this instead of the boiler, but how to I tell if it is plumbed in to work this way?
there is no way your immersion heater will be cheaper to run then your boiler

Your immersion is electrically heated, a back boiler behind your fire is used for central heating although you should have a timer elsewhere in the house

Nope no baths just showers
is it a combi boiler? as in does it turn on each time you put the tap on?
The immersion heats via rods which take ages to heat for not enough water
