through work there is a ride to work thing going on, meaning i can get a new Cannondale bike and pay monthly, comes out of my wages before tax get a 850 quid bike for around 550, hopefully sell my old bike to get back some cash as well

Look deeply into the smallprint before you do, i know of a few people that have been tempted by that and found that its not as good a deal as it seems!

And why would you sell your other bike simply because youve bought a new one, thats just sillyness

I need to get some biking clothes but i knows less than nothing about them at all as i always just used to ride flat pedals with trainers, and wear shorts and a t-shirt

be thankful for halloween... cos before it became popular in recent years, you'd get xmas stuff from sep 1st onwards.

i know that, pretty sure full finger gloves should cover the tips of your fingers tho
You do need to be a bit coy with that scheme as Spudders mentioned.

In short you have the 'loan' for the bike taken out pre tax so it costs less in reality, but its upto the employer how they LOAN you the bike...
EG they could loan you the bike for 12 months and take the full purchase value off you (the full value being what they pay) , and then take the bike off you at the end as its still technically their property, OR sell it to you for market value, OR sell it to you for less than market value BUT you have to pay the tax on the difference between market value and what you paid them for it. This still winds up being cheaper than paying outright but you need to bear in mind the end game rather than paying peanuts for something that isnt yours at all until the end of the agreement.

I'm pondering buying a bike this way through work and getting them to cover it in the least amount of time possible (think thats a month) and pay a token £1 + tax difference on the bike+gear... Should still save atleast VAT and a bit of incometax and NI.
