    Default Battery won't charge

Hey folks needing a little help here

I noticed the volt gauge in the dash doesn't seem to go up when Iam driving the car and only goes down, have checked the earth strap from the gearbox to the car body and the neg off the battery both fine, tested the altinator by turning it with a drill and it's working plus it's only 3 months old !
Tried a spare altinator in the car last night and it's still the same

As soon as I disconnect the neg off the battery with the car running and it just dies the battery is only six months old and is a genuine vxl one

    Any ideas ??

    Thanks

Hey Iain, I had a similar issue with a6vxl on the way to billing the year before last..... Battery gauge kept going into the red under normal driving and the light was coming on under full boost which I found strange as I also had a new battery and alternator too. I actually broke down on the way home because of it and had to be recovered home. It turned out the new alternator was faulty and I got another under warranty and once fitted I never had another issue. Hope this helps mate.

    Nick.

Have you put a miltimeter on the battery with it running to see what voltage your actually getting out of it?

Cheers for the replys lads, I have managed to get a multimeter and I have nearly 12 volts at the battery and the altinator but having a better look at the clocks I now notice that the battery light ain't working I have 6. 3 volts at back of the dash on one of the termanles but nothing on the other side have checked the bulb and it's working fine

I now know the bulb is part of the battery charging system talking to Graeme today about the car today electrics have always been a daunting thought for me since I got a electric shock when I was young so have always stayed clear of electrics

I will have a look at the back of the fuse box to make sure everything is all as it should be, thanks for the replys
