Colin has had conversations about this at the national with a few of us, as he knows the guy who writes the books on auto aerodynamics etc..

righty, so a little update
first job on this evening list was to mount the new, bigger mill motor that is hopefully much more suited to milling than the last one, which was fairly easy, i drilled and tapped the plates, while Brian bored out the pulley to suit the fat new shaft on the lathe..

Brian also had it all wired in and working by the time i left, and it seems pretty bloody good tbh, so we can now mill stuff again, yay!

after that, i didi a bit more on the splitter, having re familiarised myself with TIG welding, even got some nice looking welds

and some not so nice obviously, but what are grinders for!!lmao




looking pretty good now, sides are tacked in place, need to work out how to clamp it up to do the middle ones though, as the ally needs to take the shape of the strakes, should be a challenge! roll on the weekend…

so, first job was out with the old…

that done, time for some CAD and a bit of cutting with a jigsaw…we used 4mm polycarb from a builders merchants btw… then the fun of fitting them in the frame, made harder by the shape and the fact a full size window isn't meant to fit in one go, hence the quarter light as standard…

then a bit of silicon round the seals, and a small bracket to stop the window falling and we were done!

looks way better and has sved willay approximately 8 kg with the mechanisms etc removed

fronts are next!!
so, that done, did a bit more to the nova, namely making it so i can jack it up and adding some decent fixings to the floor, still some to do but i got it down off the stands just to see how she looks, cant get to look properly unfortunately as there's a MK1 MR2 in the way as matt decided to get one, but it is nice to see it on the floor, doesn't look too low to me either

I think well all have to remember we are talking Vauxhall Nova's and not Formula 1 cars !!!!!!!!!


All that alloy stuff underneath is not going to make any difference that you will notice imo, therefore not worth the effort

If your trying to be Adrian Newy, give Red Bull Racing a ring instead of bolting coke cans on the unside of your 25 year old production car

It must make some difference. Mini go to the effort of putting flat floor panels into the John Cooper Works Minis and offer a rear diffuser of a similar design to the one on that Nova. There must be some gain worth the effort.
