    Default ****ing BMW

Well as per my thread other week I bought myself a new daily

A friend of mine had a 320d a while ago and it spat a swirl flap - writing engine off

I know I'll check mine :0 what a **** idea, 1 had already spat hope it was on previous owner

2 snapped as I touched them , and the other 3 were bent etc ,

And they were seized half open so engine would have been running no where near right

All removed now , feels more responsive and mpg has gone from 29.4 mpg to 36.7 mpg

    Crap designs or what ?

helluva nice daily, and lucky you caught them flaps in time,

alfa's have been doing that for years on the 1.9 JTD (same engine as the vaux 1.9CDTI) piss poor idea for a "modern" machine, whatever happened to simple stuff

We see on average probably 1 head a month from the local BMW independents that's eaten a swirl flap, apparently the later engines 57+ have ones fitted that don't fall off anymore

It was 2004/5 they saw the light. I did some homework when I was going to buy a 320d. Those earlier engines have a shocking design.
