Looks stunning Nick, what are your plans engine wise?

Sisters Mini is still looking great. Looks so much better with the black roof on it that it did with the white.

Superb Nick, I'm learning just watching this progress, so you base coated over the primer area only with a slight overlap (blow in) onto the old red, then lacquer over the entire panel and finish. Do you flat between coats or just lay several base coat then flat the whole base before lacquer?

Thanks Jeff, Im glad your learning a little...... I was beginning to think people would find my thread a bit boring after all this time hence why I wasnt going to bother really! I actually use a tintable surface primer (red in this case) over the top of the grey primer you see in the pictures. The car then saw four coats of red base and two clear over the top of that. As our basecoats are water based we dont flat them unless its absolutely necessary etc. I know a lot of the American resto programes and so on show (colour sanding) which does give great results but their all still on solvent basecoats over their so much easier to do so. But again not really needed in my opinion as similar results can be found by just flat/polishing the clear afterwards.

    .
See know i've wondered about this before, as i was tough that you only sand between base coats if you have a prob (run/dirty/hair or something) and then you need to base over it to cover scratches... But then is it cause they are using a direct gloss? Using a really high grade paper, Then lacquer over it?
