Got a new fuel tank to go on the Cav t'other day. Is it worth giving it a coat of hammerite to protect the metal or shall I just fit it unpainted?

I have actually spoken to someone that went and looked at a brand new Vauxhall in the 90's and questioned the unpainted tanks, dealer said the modern technology in steels meant they could last x times longer completely unprotected. This is probably why Novas don't rust
... I'd paint it![]()
Most definately paint it.Primer with red oxide hammerite, then hammerite smooth whatever colour.
Or for ultimate scene look, put it in the sea for a week then paint with brine water![]()

it wouldn't hurt, any protections got to be better than none

Definitely paint it, for the minimal effort it takes why risk having a new tank get all rusty.

put paint stripper on it, water and salt, and fit it, would look factor fit then![]()
And be sure to jump on it too.

It'll rust from the inside out anyway. But i'd still stick a quick splash of paint to protect the outside.
