hmm, not really in my eyes
i would not want to be running it with the input shaft not fully engaged with the clutch plates, as the clutch splines will be designed to deliver that torque over the whole width of a clutch plate, so you may find it rounds the end off the shaft, or the clutch plate splines themselves could fail, which is probably the more likely as they are fairly soft in comparison to the input shaft
why do you need a twin plate? as like you say the torque rating is ‘overkill’ a single with a decent spring rate would be plenty imo, and have room in the box

I see where your coming from mate. The only reason the clutch torque rating is way over is because it was either a 200ft lb option or a 310ft lb option iirc. Im using a twin plate alternavtive is because I had issues with my helix clutch and when I asked which clutch app was best they couldnt give me a straight answer with it being for circuits and quarter miles. I have followed guidence from I area rather than all over the place and this seemed to be the best option i chose really.
    Cheers

i run a single plate helix 7.25 with a red spring, i only have 160 lb/ft and 230 bhp compared to you but i doubt a single with a slightly heavier spring would struggle, as red is the lightest option iirc, and the whole rotating assembly will be lighter that was too of course

i bet, unless you can sell the twin plate on, i just think its going to cause you more hassle than its worth, even with things like the stroke of the hydraulic slave cylinder

i’d just sell the twin plate and get a single, but its not my car, good luck with it anyway, nearly done!

you may have to consider modifying the engine mount using a spacer too, as it will push the box over in to the wheel housing area, i must say it may be worth just checking the spec of a single plate 7.25" as one it will be lighter still and two if can take the ft/lb wich im sure it will, then it will mean no head scratching, you may even be able to box your's back up and send it back for exchange if you buy the single plate unit from the same company? just a thought.
