    how easy/costly would i be looking to post a mountain bike ?

    £20 ? £25 ?

    it cost me 15 for a frame and forks to be sent to me.

    so 20-25 would be about right i guess

    Have a look on Paisley Freight draper, they offer delivery for specific items... Bikes being one of them. Somewhere in the region of £25 to £30 IIRC

    i would not trust bike wheels with a courrier.

    in a decent cardboard box, it would cost about £10 on interparcel, you would need to knock it down, like how a new bike is for delivery.

    I bought a bike from ebay a while back (well a few years )

    £30 I think it was, the bike was neatly folded in the box (as in, wheels and forks removed) and it arrived fine. Box was quite small too and weight next to fcuk all.
