pinking?

is this pinking?

when the car is reved above 6000rpm it looses power and has a strange rattly noise is the only way i can explain it.

also when putting the foot down at low revs i can hear a like ticky kind of noise.

should i retard my ignition timing a bit?

engine is a 16 8v with a Pierburg 2e carb

Sounds like pre detenation yeh, could be the ignition timing or it could be something different ? dodgy fuel ? May be worth changing the fuel filter, it's not as simple as just thinking that the timing needs retarding as this isnt necesarilly the cause, have a proper look into it first.

Could also be your exhaust, it's a bit hard to tell really without actually hearing it tbh.
