    Default Peugeot 306 d turbo

I am looking at getting a 306 for my cheap daily hack. Has anyone had experience with these. I could do with some advice on rust and engine issues preferably.

    cheers

wheels fitment can be an issue, rear beams tend to bend, rust issues behind rear lights not visable from a glance its where a water drain pipe comes through

Engines are pretty decent, only thing I know that goes wrong is a water pipe that rusts away.

Rear beam bearings go, easier to change the beam than replace the bearings.

front suspension bushes, inexpensive but an ass to change apparently, rust wise spose to be very good as they're galvanised (so i hear, could be bull but they don't seem to rust tbh) other than that just don't expect it to be fast because it says turbo on the back, and it is a soul destroyingly french heap of turd, works though and you can squeeze 52mpg out of an abused one on a motorway trip including the fuel sucking bits through town at either end

edit: and it's french so obviously anything electric, push all the buttons in sight when you go view it

I have heard that 1997-98 engines with a certain code are known to blow the pistons out??

Get a HDI mate. ive got a 1.9 estate its not a d turbo but its going strong had it nearly a yr only had to change glow plugs and oil and filter. I know the rear beams have problems as there on a A frame no springs. one side of mine is dropping lower than the other and will need changing/ repairing at some point. Although my D has done 153k and the best car ive ever owned. It was owned by lloyds tsb so they looked after it then a mechanic owned it then me. If you can fine one like mine thats been looked after your onto a winner i must admit im bored of the lack of power in mine now with it not being a turbo etc. HDI's are the way forward in my opinion when i look at upgrading if i dont get the car is want(if cant get finance etc) i will be getting a HDI estate. If i get the car i really want it will be a 04 plate Land Rover TD5:P
