    Default Nova sport

Not actualy mine this time (NO CASH HAS EXCHANGED HANDS!). More a favor for a good mate of mine.

Alot of old school people will remember the car. It used always be around a few years ago. but due to work commitments it hasn't been seen for a bit. The car under went an extensive rebuild but never got back on the road. But now its my mission to fix this minor detail!

Here is the car in its former glory

My old spider (number 2) on the right

It then had a full front end fitted, well every thing! Back 5+ years ago when you could buy bits with relative ease before Richard stashed them all in his loft!

This is where I step in! Paul (the owner) got taken away from the projectdue to work and it never made it back onto the open highway. The car has been sat at his parents house since 2004, and has been off the road since feb 2003! Basicly he had the throttle bodies fitted and only had use of it for 1 day before it came off the road (in a way).

So 4 years of lack of true loving has resulted in it looking a little sorry for its self. The long term plan is to get it show worthy again. But for now we are planning on getting it back road legal again and running.

The engine spec was as follows (06/2002)

Velos Motorsport 1396 8 valve compression ratio 11:1

    1.4 block
    Block decked
    Bored out
    1.3 head
    30 hours flow work
    Enlarged ports
    Stainless steel big valves
    Inlet wasted stem
Exhaust standard stems for heat dissipation
Thin valve seats for improved flow
Cut down valve guides to improve flow
    Head skimmed
1.3 crank (bottom end all balanced together as a set)
    Balanced
    Lightened
    Shot peened for stress relief
    1.3 conrods
    Balanced
    Lightened
    Shot peened for stress relief
    Ford Zetec fitment ARP bolts
    1200 high compression pistons
    Valve pockets enlarged for clearance
Thin anti-flutter piston rings with 3 thou clearance for minimum resistance (big, road clearance normally 1 thou)
    Kent AST2 cam
    Hydraulic followers
1300 flywheel standard weight for better take off
    Balanced
    1300 OEM clutch
    Baffled sump
Aston engineering (Aston Martin) lower pulley with crank sensor phonic wheel original sensing wheel taken from Astra4 as used by Aston.
Ford crank sensor with mini timer plug
Lucas Throttle pot (type found on Montego)
Sagem wasted spark coil type without amplifier as fitted to Vectra
    NGK 8mm silicone leads
    NGK triple electrode spark plugs
Bespoke brackets for throttle pot wasted spark coil and crank speed sensor.
Distributor removed and replaced with bespoke blank made from cut down distributor
Irmscher inlet manifold with 2x Weber 40 DCOE 144 and 143 carbs
32mm chokes, 140 air collectors, F16 emulsion tubes, 130 main jets, 45F6 idle jets, 40 pump jets
ITG bespoke sock, which fits over all 4-air horns
4x bolt on 23mm 40 DCOE air horns
Facet solid state fuel pump, pre and post filtered
DTAFAST ECU and full engine management loom ready for throttle bodies (injectors, lambda sensor, and water and air temp sensors loom installed currently used for 3d map-able ignition. (Rpm/throttle position/advance)
    ECU fed tacho
    Shift light
    Soft and Hard rev limiters
Launch Control (Soon to be fitted)
Full throttle shift (Soon to be fitted)
    Last 3 minutes data logging
    Brand new Vauxhall engine mounts
All ancillary components needed for engine intallation replace with new Vauxhall components
    Gearbox
Fully rebuilt all new bearings and oil seals
    F10 Housing
    F13 gear cluster
    F10 final drive (3.94:1)
RT Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing Limited Slip Differential
    Gearbox housing polished
    Samco Yellow Hoses
    Exhaust
Stainless steel Powerflow exhaust with red tailbox, made to look original
    Janspeed 4-1 tubular manifold

Output limited by exhaust at 98 bhp at the wheels at 6250 rpm around 130 at fly

Since this spec list it has had the throttle bodies fitted (half mapped to 4000rpm and produced 98 bhp @4000 rpm at the wheels on Velos's rollers, it has only been mapped to 4000rpm but should pull more when fully done after 4000 rpm it uses a Velos race x14xe map (175bhp!) as a base)

Should be some fun when running again (watch this space tomorrow!), wonder why I fancy a go in it??

With a littl help from Count vauxalot (cheers James) we arranged to have the car transported from London to Newcastle to begin its work needed to get it back on the road.

Here is how I found it on saturday nigth when I got in from work (I seem to go to work on saturdays and cars appear on my drive during the day?!? 2 sports and a grey SX so far?)

    Looking a bit green

All the panels are like new still

This little fella was looking forward to a run out

Runs from the door handle, can't say that I have ever seen this on a Nova

Then set about washing it, no 2 bucket technique, just good old soap and water for now

4 buckets later and the water was still like this

    Paint is a bit flat,

Being white its hard to make out where I have machine polished it, but you can see the line where it was masked off to see the differnce
