I think there should be special seperate prisons for the worst of the worst scum, who are unquestionably guilty and don't deserve ever to be allowed into society again. Prisons that they can never leave, with no comforts, no individual cells, nobody looking after them, just the very basic requirements of life given to them. With any luck they would just all kill each other.
