    Default 1.4 SR vs 1.4 ZR

    hello..looking for some help/info..

    one of my mates has a 1.4 K series MG ZR (standard apart from Pipercross cams) and he says it is FAST!!

    i am sure they are pretty nippy, they certainly spound fast but not so sure if they are..they are big heavy cars also..

    we were talking about my nova today and he says that his mg zr would piss all over my 1400 sr nova??

    i couldnt really argue with him as i dont know if it will..

    has anybody tried to race a mg or anything? or knows if the sr will definetly be quicker..

    oh and the sr is in standard form also..

    but i am planning on fitting a 1300 ported and polished head, webber 40's, 4 branch and full exhaust system, highlift cam..

    somehow i dont think his zr will keep up if i did that..

    what you guys think??

    ZR's are 120 BHP?

    With your mod's you will, standard you won't.

    I'd say the ZR would be abit quicker. But not alot in it IMO. Get yourselves to a trackday and find out

    The only time ive ever had a ZR try to pass me was in my old blue nova see nova read (c20xe) and that wasnt much of a comparison as i left it in 6th and still left it (btw yes that was on the motorway not round town)

    But im hoping you mean on a track dont ya and tbh i reckon out of the box the mg will have it but keep at it as they gasket will give out soon enough.

    However if yours is modded to keep up with it then its not a fair fight really as youve upgraded your engine purely to beat him!

    i did think that in standard form it would beat a 1400 sr..

    but i am not purely tuning my engine just to beat him..

    yes of course it will be on a track..

    SR = 775Kgs + 72bhp = 93bhp per ton.
    ZR = 1020Kgs + 101Bhp (105ps) = 99bhp per ton.

    He has the slim edge in power to weight, assuming Parkers is correct with their weight. With a cam, I'd say the ZR would probably be faster. With the mods you're planning you should be knocking on an extra 15-20bhp so it may swing in your favour.

    Depends on the driver though tbh.
