test the idle control by letting it idle, engage 2nd gear and try pulling away very gradually with the handbrake on with no throttle the ICV should try and hold the rpm. when you hear the engine loading and trying hard, dump the clutch and the revs should spring up momentarilly as the ICV should be open and will take a second to react.

if this happens then it ICV is working,

If the TPS is a switch as apposed to a pot then if this was out of adjustment it may well contribute to a poor idle/start.

the pot part of a TPS is used for transient load sensing such as accelleration enrichment, or decelleration enleanment.

well thought id try mr lovers test , and it does not do anything on the nova , just returns back to its idle speed , tryed it on astra aswell and i got a bit of over rev to compensate , so looks like my icv could be goosed , but i adjusted the throttle cable with the help of a jubilee clip and and will idle fine now , bodge fix i know but engine comes out next week
