Yeah I'm getting really into it, though the missus is not so impressed with my new found enthusiasm! lol
Although there was one massive set back today, i found the bit the goes behind the steering wheel to make contact for the hone to work, and knock off the indicators, BUT i cant get the wheel of for ****, my puller wont go in the center is too small, and i tried pulling on the wheel while hitting the coulomb lightly to shock it free, and one of the bolts that holds the wheel on snapped, so i stopped, got a bit pissed off about it, looks like I'll have to keep it as it is.
Scott
speak to RJ about my wheel removel technic lol.
I'm worried if i try any more "rough" way's to get it off I'll do more damage, so I'm going to leave it for now.
I didnt have the wheel on but got the boss off.
I tried a CV puller, but it wont grip the boss...grr
Really good to see that your working on the car. Top stuff, I really like what your up to. Keep up the good work :thumb:
Cheers dude, not allot of things left now on my short term list, but on the long term, still got to sort the FG boot/bonnet out, and plexi glass windows etc.
Scott
Did some little bits today.
First off i finished the custom filler cap off (use to be on my old GSi)
Put a few coats of lacquer on it.
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/161/dscf0534small.jpg
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/2...f0535small.jpg
So need some opinions please.
Before with ally cap (it's quite heavy)
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5376/dscf0568small.jpg
With custom, thats quite light weight.
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/7458/dscf0569small.jpg
Though it does seam more vivid in color...humm opinions please.
If I'm not sure i can either, paint the flush custom black and use it, or paint the alloy one black??
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3974/dscf0572small.jpg
Also while a had a few spare minuets i decided to take the grill apart to repaint the slats, and add a badge Ive had for years.
Few coats of acrylic matt black did the trick!
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8725/dscf0545small.jpg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1668/dscf0546small.jpg
While i was working on it i noticed some of the interlining ribs that hold the slats together were broken, my dad had the idea of using a soldering iron to melt it back together, we used this idea to also re-attach it to the main frame of the gril :D
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/6984/dscf0556small.jpg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5885/dscf0557small.jpg
I recommend anyone who needs to fix the grill to the frame do it this way.
Then the badge.
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/4763/dscf0543small.jpg
Bought it years back, think it was Doncaster show 2003
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1993/dscf0551small.jpg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1097/dscf0558small.jpg
More tomorrow.
Scott
Opel grille looks smart!!
I like the smooth filler cap but colour match doesn't look right.
Yeah, I'm going to wait, as maybe a week on the car in the sun it might change, but if not then I'll paint it black/gray etc.Quote:

plastic always takes a different shade for some reason and id carbon fibre sheet the cap as the sticker weighs 0.000000g :thumb:
It's not plastic dude, it's steal. :p lol It's just the difference in color to bing fresh I'm guessing?Quote:

So it went something like this...
Cut the rubber covers off
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/3...re001small.jpg
Then placed the handles back in to find that part of the rubber cover has the bulges on it to rest on, meaning the handles were hitting on the handle opening, at first i was like NOoo what have i done, then i realised there was potential for a nice flush fit handle, so marked up where the henge was hitting, grabbed a file and attacked the doors!
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/3...re002small.jpg
Drilled out with 8mm drills on two side one's,then step drilled the rest with 8mm-10mm then finished with 13mm OD,and primed.
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/9...re003small.jpg
Both done and top coated in rover hurricane gray (thats almost the same color as the standard rubber cover)
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/4...f0553small.jpg
So this work was done at the weekend, but i fitted them today, as i wanted to make sure they had dried quite well.
Onto the fitting today.
Quite a flush finish to them.

http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/5...0580smallc.jpg
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/3...f0581small.jpg
just got them on and working in time, as it started pissing it down again!
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/4...f0583small.jpg
This also arrived from Ireland today, so I'll start prepping it for it's new color! :thumb:
http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/2...f0585small.jpg
So as long as the weather holds up tomorrow then I'll get some more work done on/in the car.
Scott
Nice work Scott, 3 holed handles FTW!! lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/DSCN2345.jpg
lol Ian you might want to go put them groves in the doors to make them sit flush :thumb:
What OD did you put in yours?
Scott
nice...
i always wanted a metal "OPEL" plug cover, instead, i got a plastic one, as they rarely come up for sale, and was too late when they did..
got Plastic Opel, Metal Vauxhall, Plastic black one's so far
Not sure, the biggest drill bit I had at the time! lol,
There not that big to be honest
Nice work Scott!
I was quite lucky to be fair, and it was Pete who spotted it on MIG as i was looking like mad for one! :DQuote:

Then just as i stepped away from the PC to grab lunch...
I got a text, it was from the guy i gave some parts to get sprayed, i was frigging excited to say the least, so sod lunch!
I ran down stairs grab my keys and shot to the bank on my way to collect them...
So hear they are in all there freshness :D

Before i placed the rocker cover back on there was the small matter of trimming the underside of the bonnet to stop it hitting like it was before.
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/5...f0588small.jpg
Fitted the wing mirrors/grab handle back on.
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7...f0595small.jpg
Trial fitted the bumpers (removed them so they can sit longer over night,as they were only painted yesterday)

Got some more bits to pick up tomorrow, and drop one last item in to him.
Let's hope the weathers good as well, as i wont to get some real work done.
Scott
Looks gooooood dude.
Looks much better
nice.
How come your rocker cover was hitting the bonnet? custom mount or something? I like that colour, is it a custom mix?
very nice scotty boy :thumb:
My solid engine monts are the same as i used on my old car, and that too hit on the bonnet...Quote:

Don't know why the solid mounts bring it up higher, they just do, but i guess it's not a bad thing, as it means less chance of popping the shafts etc.
As for the color it's a VAG color Delphine Grey Mica (I'm not lying, as i thought it was Dolphin to lol) it changes from light to almost black. :D
Scott
Colour on the bits looks fab Scott.
Car is really coming along, I look forward to seeing it & meeting you both at some point. :thumb:
Cheers Craig, didn't you meet me at Cheltenham that time?
Cheers Chris, and Carl, glad you like.
Scott
