Some of the bad bits on the drivers side
(i didn't get all the stages in pics, as it kept threating to rain, so was working really quick!)

Stripped down.
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6896/dscf0424small.jpg

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8153/dscf0431small.jpg

Good days work done! :thumb:
Scott
Looking good dude! Good progress:thumb:
Looking good. Makes me realise i should finish mine meh lol
Decided after 5 years the rocker/cam belt covers need a tart up!
Rubbed down, cleaned with panel wipe and alloy primer.
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/7...f0440small.jpg
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9...f0443small.jpg
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1...f0444small.jpg
Both alloy primed, and belt cover white undercoated, still need a blast of filler primer in a day or so once they harden a bit.
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/8...f0445small.jpg
Then I'm waiting for the spark plug cover, and top coats etc.
Scott
Sprayed the rear foot wells.
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/4...f0446small.jpg
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/4...f0447small.jpg
:thumb:
More prep to the cam/rocker covers.
Filler primed-rubbed back ready for more base primer maybe tomorrow and top coat fingers crossed on Sat/Sunday.
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3...f0449small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2...f0450small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/6...f0451small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3...f0448small.jpg
Then i decided to try something i had been thinking about doing for a while now...
Got a set of spear rear lights and some red tint spray
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/8...f0453small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/1...f0458small.jpg
Didn't work quite to plan, the tint bled under the tape!
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5...f0462small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5...f0461small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/9...f0472small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/9...f0473small.jpg
I'll try cleaning the bit thats bled off and see how it looks.
I then found some clear rear's i had also laying about in the shed!
So as my dad was willing to do it, i let him loose with a dremal on them..
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/8...f0455small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2...f0457small.jpg
The idea is to use clear bulbs with color elements or LED's
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3...f0454small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7...f0465small.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/1...f0467small.jpg
Two nice even coats later and they are almost the same red-ness as the GM set.
Scott
Just took the tape off, and I'm glad to say they look awesome! :D
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/8373/dscf0474small.jpg
If it was not for a slight spec of dust on one of them you wouldn't know they were tint sprayed.
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/7010/dscf0475small.jpg
Scott
those lights look really good :) well done!
Cheers dude, shame about the experiment one though lol
I did this to my lights in my youth! Still quite like thtem tbh..

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...10076Small.jpg
Lights acualy look good, ive been wanting to do that for ages but never found any clear rears cheap enough for my shallow pockets lol
Mazz - I like it too
Maybe a mass of nova rear lights selling now?
i prefer twin fog imo
L.e.d bulbs are ftw mate i have them on mine :)
If you try to redo your experiment try ising strips of black electrical tape, it shouldnt bleed under the tape that way bud!
Ive just gotten some clear rear and im trying to decide how/what to do on them!
Nice job on those lights.
Cheers guy's glad you like the light idea's i had (I'm going to try redo that taped one)
Anyway on with today's fiddling, so i got on with more work on the cam/rocker covers today, first off i de-nibbed them then gave them a quick lick over with the ally primer, then went into watch monster garage and have a sandwich while they dried in todays lovely sun :D
Nibbed back/ally primed.
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/6932/dscf0478small.jpg
Here is a sneak peak of what color they are going to be, wont show them till they are finished in lacquer, and i have my plug cover done etc. ;)
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2071/dscf0484small.jpg
Although it looks in this light/pic to be silk violet it's not lol, it's a non-Vaux color.
EDIT: I gave them a helping hand to dry, my mum's getting to be more understanding.

Ste, i don't think it made them dry any quicker, but i did notice it gave more shine on the finish!
Jay, as much as i love my old Silk Violet i don't think many peoples eys could hack the color contrast of it with the Apache Orange! lol
So nope, there changing.
Scott
Antracite would look good. :DQuote:

Looking good scott...... The rumour on the grapevine is.... your about to make your first million from selling nova scuttles lol
I feel like i have achieved something today, at last!
First things first. For some strange reason Chris didn't spray the passengers door on the inside, so this had been bugging me for ages now, so...
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/2...f0497small.jpg
I also swapped the door lock for one of my old GSi one's, as this car as a different key for everything!
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3...f0498small.jpg
First coat.
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8...f0499small.jpg
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7...f0500small.jpg
Then went in for lunch to let it dry for the second coat.
Second coating
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/5...f0501small.jpg
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/9...f0502small.jpg
I left it for an hour or so as i had to go out, when i got back i decide to do something i had been thinking about for a while now.
Now Dar just in case you read/see this don't take offense to what i have done.
I decided to re-relocate the battery, as I'm going to be using this car on the road for at least a year, and don't want to tempt fait, so I'll be caring a spare.
Undo it ready for it's move.
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/6...f0506small.jpg
I got two bits of ally angle, cut and filed them, marked out where it's going etc.
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8...f0507small.jpg
Then drill/counter sunk them, and screwed them down, then drilled out two holes for the ally bar that goes over the top, temp fixed it down.
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4...f0508small.jpg
Then i decided to pull all the rear lighting loom out and get rid of any bit's not needed, as i was going to feed it, and the battery lead through the inner wing are.
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3...f0515small.jpg
Hope i don't need them anyway??
I fed it into the inner wing through a hole i drilled earlier (with a wood holes saw!)
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4...f0504small.jpg
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8...f0505small.jpg
I was getting worried i did not have enough length on the wire for what i wanted to do next (only just have)
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/9...f0510small.jpg
I moved the battery cut off switch from of the dash as i couldnt reach it while faster in my seat by the harness.
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/2...f0514small.jpg
Made a locating plate from foamxe to go where the radio would be
(this is not finished)
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/6...f0513small.jpg
Checked to see how much i will need to cut out for my wires.
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/9...f0517small.jpg
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6...f0516small.jpg
Thats it for today, I hope to get the lacquer on the paint, and finish the battery cut off tomorrow.
Scott
Cool, glad to see your still getting on with it.
Loads to get on with mate, blody loads! lol
I know the feeling mate, just keep telling yourself it'll be worth it when its done.
(Even if you lieing to yourself like I am) lol
Your makeing great progress mate :)
looking top class mate id say its around 99.6% done lol
Got to do some under sealing in the rear arches yet, painting in the front wells and rear bench area, just lots of faffy jobs that take time, i can see it's going to take a while to clean all the crap out from working on it.
Glad your all liking it, it should turn out quite nice!
So i got the door lacquered up.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7...f0518small.jpg
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7...f0520small.jpg
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/2...f0521small.jpg
It's not a bad color match, though i think it's slightly redder then the rest as i didn't primer first, just rubbed back and painted on the red paint, ah well it's only a door close.
I also got the rear inner arches wire brushed back, rust treated the welded areas, then undersealed them (no pic's was working to hard)
Also sprayed my custom fill cap off my old GSi, I'll lacquer it tomo, then put a pic up.
Then did some more to the battery lead, and cut off switch panel is finished, along with a glove box blank i made from black foamex.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7...f0524small.jpg
Bit of fake C'F sticky stuff (think it was a top strip form a fast car, years old now...)
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/2...f0523small.jpg
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7...f0526small.jpg
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/6...f0525small.jpg
I did allot of hard work today (though the pictures don't show it)
I was just far to dam busy to take them.. lol
More tomorrow.
Scott

Yeah i kept with the intension of using it inside my car
About 10 years ago! lol
