Nice to meet you too, always nice putting usernames to faces! I am doing some research in to the Cav style rear ARB, might be interesting to try out.
Next trackday is Donington evening session starting at 5:30pm on the 21st (week on Thursday). After that thinking of Rockingham in July.
User bs_auto_salvage or similar on eBay, £11 a pair so ended up more expensive than the spacer themselves lol But laser cut 5mm thick so made quite nicely.
I give up putting my car back together lol

Driving around the other night and heard a clatter under the car as I was pulling over, found a stray M10 bolt that had come out of the gearbox mount. I wonder why they're not staying in properly?! lol

Also it keeps pulling the passenger side shaft out of the box and losing all its oil. Have I got these shafts the right way round, with the split one being the slightly longer 'equal' length one? I'd assume so as its quite a difference but thought I'd check!

Yep there fine mate, did you have some stupid shine stainless bolts keeping that mount on??
Not stupid or shiny, just some BZP M10 ones. Maybe they were a bit short.
the car looks in a bit of a state for the track day next week mate
Thanks for your support lol nah will be ready don't worry
you have had that thing apart so many times you could proberly put it all back together in a few hours lol
he loves velcro! comes apart that easy, but i suppose thats a good thing when it comes to novas!
Thread lock those bolts into the gearbox, do them up FT and make sure they are the perfect length too. I've had all manner of issues with mounts, so figured the way forward was a 4th.
Well I've drilled, tapped and helicoiled all three gearbox mounts, swapped to some original looking bolts that weren't THAT much longer but a little bit. Loctited as you said BRoadGhost and they're nice and tight:

While replacing my CV circlip, bottom balljoint and track rod end I thought I'd bosh these bad boys in, should be interesting to find tune the camber and see if they stay positioned as I've heard of people having problems:

Nice work.
nice one mate, my speed awarness course is on the same day as your next track day lol
Haha what a coincidence lol
Set up the camber bolts today, really easy to get the right adjustment so I hope they stay in the desired position.
Lowering it with the suspension compressed to ride hieght:

Before, 1 deg on the passenger side and a little less on the drivers side for some reason:

After, both sides set up at 1.5 deg neg camber:

Set up the toe again to straight and went for a test drive, turn in feels really vague and slow so reset it back to 1mm toe out and it feels lovely now. Checked my camber after a quick test run and we're still good:

Have you got a link to that camber tool?
It's this one: http://www.gunson.co.uk/item.aspx?cat=664&item=4034
Loads of places sell it, motorsport shops, eBay etc.
Love the tool.
Nice work, glad you got the box sorted for this Thursday at Donny.
How do make sure the car is level when setting the camber up?
I usually measure sill to floor before jacking it up so I know where to lower it back down to. This time it was already on stands so I measured wheel centre to tyre outer and lowered the car down using the CV thread as a centrepoint.
After setting up the camber and putting it back on it's wheels and having a test drive I parked it in a different place on the driveway and they both read 1.5 degrees so hopefully done it right!
No probs Simon. One had some play so I renewed both bearings.
The brackets have grease nipples on however I had neglected to grease them since fitting (9,000 miles of road and track use in all weathers) due to ignorance/being unaware so I think this killed them. With the new bearings I am greasing them every couple of months (did it the other day actually) to hopefully prolong their life.
I have the same brackets. I haven't done a great deal of miles on them since I rebuilt them after I had them powdercoated when new I haven't greased them and now one of them has started clunking and knocking and seems to have a visible amount of play in them so presume I might have killed them. Guess it's probably down to me not keeping them greased up. Cheers for the info. Much appreciated.
D'oh! Yes I remember seeing the brackets in your WIP. I was getting all sorts of clunks, groans and creaks which I initially thought was the poly bushes. Sounded like a duck quacking down the street!
My new bearings were about £35 the pair from Rollerball Bearings in Nottingham which was a fair amount cheaper than Protec replacements. Hopefully the part number above will help you source some locally if you do need new ones.
Good work!
Whats the max you can adjust with those camber bolts??? -/+ 1deg or so???
I STILL need to borrow that camber tool!!! lol
1.5 deg max adjustment
Just taken it for a test drive, the front end is MEGA twitchy with this new setup but it digs into corners lovely.
Also the passenger side shaft is still falling out, ANY ideas please post them in the following thread as I'm panicking for Thursday's trackday! http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthr...-leaking/page2
Back from Donington, another success story with caveats. lol
The new geometry setup didn't really work that well, does anyone know if crossply tyres like camber? It didn't seem as stable and predictable on the edge compared to before. I'll be going back to 1 deg neg camber as it's unusable on the roads too!
Despite that I think I managed a best lap of around 1:29-1:30? Video here:

And a few mishaps during the day, first was an epic drifto moment as it started raining, second was Coxy putting me off in the Radical and me completely missing the corner and falling off the track ROFL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVsXeemEqzI
And the day ended 15 minutes early as my backbox sheared off! Just went really raspy mid lap as it snapped!

Good times lol
Well done Iain, this car is immense, handles awesome. Anyone who says an xe in a nova ruins handling etc is talking utter rubbish as this thing is unbelievable in the bends :)
Shame about the exhaust but at least it happened right at the end of the day
Nice one iain
got some stiff exhaust hangers then lol, you getting a new system or welding that back on?
damn ashley exhausts always like snapping lol
Glad it's not just me then Mieran! Gonna weld it back together, it's not corroded just cracked clean between the backbox and the system join.
The rear box is on a polybush but the middle is back on original rubbers since it melted two pairs of poly middles. There's no flexi in the system so its under a fair amount of strain throughout I imagine.
epic save on that drift, bet that got your heart racing.
