http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0943.jpg
right moan if you wish i dont care lol, I'm giving the lower lip a coat of white stone chip paint just to get some paint on there and protect it for now, I'm thinking of getting a Sr bumper for it at some point so will end up hidden anyways
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0941.jpg
bit of paint (only a rough coat to see what it drys like)
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0942.jpg
its to dark to do anything else today and Ive still not got any lights in the garage
Have you seam welded the full bay then
Flat the stone chip off lightly with the 800 wet and dry, it will look very factory blended then!
Looks nice so far.

went to go get hammerite paint for the block, but fook me over 40 quid for it :O im going to have a shop about for it and see if i can get it any cheaper
I wouldn't bother with modern hammerite, it's been sold on to another company that decided to go green, they've dropped the VOC content of it and in the process made it ****. You can identify old and new from the "x years protection" claim on the tin but I can't remember which way round it is now.
I believe the POR stuff that Iaiaiaiaiain used a lot comes in various colours?
Also gunk is pretty weak compared to comma hyperclean... any half decent motor factor should stock it, get a little tin and try them both maybe :)
seems as the engine is out and on a stand, im going to scrape most of the crap off, then give it a go over with a stiff nylon brush before the gunk goes on as a last final stage of the wash
im not just going to brush the stuff on and hope for the best, bit of elbow grease first lol
fair enough, chances are you'll run out with that tiny tin though, far too tempting to splash it about :p if/when you do give hyperclean a go, it's honestly a lot better :)
i will keep a eye out for it fella, cheers
just a little everyday

need more stonechip paint now, luckly i found it soewhere 2 quid cheaper a can! then halfrauds
Good work
Really think you should of welded up the seems in the bay tho mate
meh if it twists it twists, Ive spoken to people that have run big power novas and didn't bover welding and they never had a problem, if this engine comes out for a let, then i will have it all sandblasted back all plated and welded etc..
and to be truthful Ive decided not to bover welding the rest of the legs aswell, the factory welds are more then likely stronger then my shocking welding skills, i know people will completely disagree with all of this but I'm not fussed, I'm convinced that the story's of twisted bays are from shockingly **** shells
Never heard of twisting bays tbh
Deffo heard of and seen factory spot welds splitting tho mate
You MIGHT get away with on standard XE power tho
if it happens, it happens, on my head be it lol
personally ive never heared of anyone having these kinda problems with other marques, 300+hp rs turbos, 400+hp old single cam turbo civics, i started a thread asking for proof and no one showed me a picture of it happening to there car or a friends motor just a load of talk and no real mention of the shells orignal condition, as said this might go against the grain a little but mehh its my car i will do what i want :p
Oh yeah just crack on mate
But if it does split at least you could post a pic of the evidence in your own thread lol
will do fella, im man enough to own up to my own mistakes lol
Worst excuse ever the reason a nova bay twists is the suspension arm bolts to the cross member so under strain its like a jack hammer banging away on the cross member to its good for nothing.
Look at pauls yellow nova thread it has loads of cracks and he was constantly weldind rear mounts etc in.
Nowadays it worth doing the full stitch as you'll not find a solid shell fast like 10 years ago
which paul? i can think of two of them on here
does he not run a let?
so are you not welding the bay? I could come up and have do it for you if you covered my fuel costs? Im not brilliant but ive done all mine lol
how about for a swap, your welding skills/equiment for them rear polly windows you wanted ;)
haha we could have a deal ;)
Let me know if you want me to do it mate
tj.......you have pm...
mowgli has been at the hob goblin again lol
nobby what i will do is get all the seams wire wheeled back then sort out when you can come do it, i properly wont get much done this week as i down south monday then back up (roll), then back down there again Tuesday and Wednesday so not going to get much done and not to forget its my birds birthday so I'm sure she is going to want to celebrate it at some point (selfish bitch)
what needs cleaning up just the seams in the engine bay or the inner arches aswell?
tj.. i have to drive this evening so no hobgoblin just yet... i have some doom bar that needs using
All the seams you want stitch welding. And any other areas of metal work that need attention.
when i did mine i did the seams on the inner wings and onto where the water bottle sits then down onto where the bottom arm bolts onto and up the sides of the bulkhead and across the bottom of the bulkhead and around the gearshift hole if you get me lol we swapsies for the polycarbs then? plus cups of tea?
yer mate windows (three rear ones) 1 cup of tea or coffee, biscuits and a sandwich (no butter, no bread and no filling)
for the welding
does the dash need to come out?
Sorted, ideally yes but if you lie inside with a damp rag and have a bucket of water to hand or extinguisher no lol What amp is your welder and is it all up and running and have ebough gas and wire etc etc
yours needs taking out so you can sort out the heater matrix anyway.. is the steering wheel undoable? or will you need to borrow my puller??
Ive tried undoing the steering wheel but it doesn't budge, so a puller might be needed mate please and thank you
ive only got a gasless welder but ive got loads of wire for it
while waiting around for work to give me more jobs thought i would have a play about with the engine conversion mount that didn't fit properly
http://imageshack.us/a/img843/6439/sam1007lv.jpg
spaced it out as it was fouling the timing case
http://imageshack.us/a/img853/7696/sam1015n.jpg
measured how much it was spaced out by so i could redrill the holes for the rubber engine mount
http://imageshack.us/a/img706/6966/sam1016k.jpg
£1 drill bit done the job ;)
