Love that turret!
So I cleaned up where I lopped off the old turrets, bolted all the required suspension components back on and mounted up the new turret! I then moved them inboard 30mm as planned and checked the camber which was -3.5deg. I was aiming for around -4deg so I know I can go further if I want to!
I need to now decide whether to come up and or inbound more. Looking at old pics I can go up but not sure if I should wait for the body to be back on before I make a decision and know if it definitely clears [emoji848]
I also have not yet fully decided on how I will attach the turrets to the chassis, well more like where, but I have some ideas. A choice of one piece of tube impacts the next... Lots of standing and staring while tea drinking to be done!

No big update today as I try and keep my neighbours happy with no grinder noises all day on a Sunday! [emoji23] So just a few hours this afternoon.
Chopped off the other old turret, now needs the excess grinding back.
Mounted and levelled the turrets.
Fitted an upright each side between the subframe and tension bracket mounts to the upper bar.
I have now also moved both turrets at total of 35mm inbound and raised them 25mm [emoji4]

Tagging the turrets into the chassis is underway. Such a time consuming process!

Seems I’ve reached my image upload limit for month!
I’ve got one to tie in on the front then its onto the other side. I’m then gonna pull the shell/nova body out of storage and give it a test fit, make sure everything is clearing.
That turret.... Christ!
It's starting to take shape...

Just need to make and add these little front pieces next and it's ready for plating in the gaps...

I also went to my storage unit today to dig out the shell - not far off test fitting it on the body now!
Looking good mate
Getting better and better Simps :thumb:
Thanks fellas.
Front turret supports are now in place...

I’ve also reinstated the front posts for the slam panel & rotisserie mounts, although they will likely change once I’m done with the rotisserie.
Hopefully getting the shell home this week if the weather holds off long enough [emoji1696]
So June 2013 was the first prelim test fit of the engine to see if the project was viable...

Jan 2015 the body was removed from the frame...

June 2020 and the body is finally reunited with the frame!

I’ve now got some fiddling to do to get it in place (about 25mm back and 25mm down. I then want to check clearance of everything (especially the front turrets!) then I can get all the front end welded up.
That's a mile stone right there!
Yeaaahhhhsssss
Lockdown has been good for some after all :thumb:
Levelled up, Simps!
Woooo hoooo! [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

This is a good motivation boost for you. Looking good

Loving the turrets.
So good to see the shell on it again
Thanks Benn. Front end has now all been welded. With work busy again I've not had any real significant time on it but I have next week off, so hoping to dedicate two full days. I want to make the tag points for locating the shell so I can remove the exoskeleton that is around it, get engine back in and figure out the bulkhead, and finally cut away the rear arches for clearance and I can actually put it on its wheels rolling again :)
I've ordered a new seat too - hopefully this one fits! 6 week lead time tho :(
Sounds like a plan.
Is going very well
So in the last few days I’ve done some chopping (rear wheel clearance), made some temporary brackets (locating the A pillars), and chopped of the exo-skeleton that was around the body!

It’s looking a little more Nova like now!
I almost took it off the jig just to see it on all 4 wheels and under it’s own weight, but would only have to go putting it back on the jig again. So I didn’t! [emoji1787]
Fuck yes!!!!
Crack on
Whats the plan for arches then? Wide saloon-shape steel?
Wow - looking like a car again must give you huge motivation!
Either those wheels are huge, or I've forgotten how small a Nova is!
They are 17s in Nissan S14 size diameter! 235 rear and 215 front I think is what's on there. I have the option to go a little smaller diameter and could always drop down an inch front and rear (currently 8" & 9"). I would like to ideally run staggered wheel diameter too with 17s rear and 16s front, but that will depend on if I decide to run drop knuckles to help keep the geo in check as they won't work with 16s. We shall see...
But yes, a Nova is still small lol
So mocked the front end back on as best I could and test fitted the bonnet. It just catches on one of the turret/top mount nuts, but with some trimming away of the under structure we should be all good! Was nice to have the face on the car again :)
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...34b4759be4.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...49a0051d31.jpg
Then I set about looking into the front wheel positioning...
The rears line up with middle of the arch but the fronts are set back due to me deciding I wanted the engine further back. Like so...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...efc66ee874.jpg
So I trimmed out the wing for clearancing and set about a test fit...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b982b83b9f.jpg
Now. I’m obviously going to be flaring out the arches, probably keeping the saloon round look, just bigger. If I keep the bumper as stock and start the arch flair just above it, i just have enough tyre clearance to the bumper on lock. Rear would need trimming back more but I plan to run that open anyway, time attack car style. If I wider the sides of the bumper then I can move the wheel forward. Which brings me on to that...
Above is all stock arms but with turrets moved in to about -3-4deg camber as stock. Stock there should be c7deg castor and I’m told I don’t want to be running anymore than 7.5deg really for a grip set up.
Until I get the coilovers, arms etc I’m not really going to know what’s possible in terms of moving the wheel forward and keeping good geo. Guess what I’ll have to buy soon then!
And here’s some gratuity pics for fun!
