They were a too good a price to refuse! lol
I too could really do with XL versions but need as much room in the car as I can get! I fit in these but I think the addition of harnesses might be just a little too much! ha

I loving what you're doing.
So its about time for an update!
Been spending a lot of time recently getting the car all levelled out. The 2 bars at the feet of the cage will be my reference point so these were levelled into the car and then using some axle stands welded where I needed them and also to the bar, the car then levelled on the slightly sloping floor. The bottom of those bars is the floor level too.
I collected two 3 metre lengths of 2"x3" box which is the next phase yesterday which were kindly drilled by Shaun Larnder as per template (if you could call it that eh Shaun? lol) for the front subframe and tie bar brackets. Laying them on top of my horizontal bars I can check my levelling :D
Front and back side to side...

I'm pretty chuffed with that.
So with the subframe now bolted up I needed to get some kind of reference point of the turrets in relation to the subframe. So off to the donor to make a jig....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...va/file-17.jpg
And all into place...

Next up was to square off the box legs so they are even front to back. We did this then tacked some bar in to keep it true. Next was to position the box into the middle of the car, taking lots of measurements. Once happy I used some inch box to make some level uprights tacked to my horizontal bars so that when I now raise the box it will keep it pretty much straight left to right still :) Thats now all done....

Next job is to put engine back in then adjust the position front to back to where I want it then I can focus on levelling them at the correct height. Again I will use some old axle stands welded up.
Thanks for looking.
mr simps, have you ever used a water level??? its basically a roll of clear hose filled with neat screenwash & is possibly the most accurate spirit level you'll ever use, as it will work perfectly from one end of the car to the other without any calibration needed.. it might be worth knocking one up to check, as your spirit level has more than an smidgeon of inaccuracy.
good work! i will be keeping an eye on this
Looking fantastic as i said the other Si,
What are you gonna do where the stock tops sit higher than the wings?
Lol at the last picture - Person standing right hand side of the shot!
Lol
Thanks! Hopefully progress will keep rolling now til xmas!
I will be running some fancy hubs that basically raise the spindle up by 50mm. This has the effect of lowering the car 50mm but retain the exact same suspension geometry, so no bump steer, added neg camber etc. So with coilovers too I can drop the turrets 50mm and lower the remaining required 25-50mm on the coilovers. Plus the engine needs to come down a bit yet anyway and therefore the subframe & turrets. Does that make sense?
Yeah I know! My cheeky brothers ball bag!
Yes it does, i've seen some things like what, wish i could use something like that.
Will the two frame rails not weigh a ton?
Its why I decided to stick with using all the 200sx parts, there's so much development been done and readiness of cheap(ish) parts available.
The rails aren't that heavy really but they're stopping a the bulkhead anyway and from there will be smaller tube work. I've left them long so I can use them as a reference point for measurements.
Getting there....

Very very impressive I'm watching to get some tips etc for when I 4x4 my nova which will happen once I get the Audi engine ruining and driving, thumbs up
I warn you, its VERY frustrating. Constantly having to re-think and change plans slightly. The measuring, tweeking, measureing gets old quick too! Lol
i think I have the height where it needs to be now leaving me with good geometry. Just want to move it back a few inches now but need to find out how much I can adjust the tie bars to re-centre the wheels.
Mine will be a lot less work with only the rear end and maybe slight tunnel mods as I plan to keep the engine transverse, it's mightily impressive though what you've done so far can't wait to see it progress
Thank you
Wow loving what you've done so far. And ah at the rails, sounds like a good plan, everything in the bar can be done from the spaceframe then...
Not 100% sure what you're asking mate? The front suspension is mounted to the subframe except tie bar where it mounts into a bracket which is attached to the chassis or in my case the box. The subframe also bolts to the box. The engine mounts to the subframe NOT the box. So in moving the engine back the subframe moves back thus moving the wheels back. Maybe a few more pics will help...

Jesus some progress what the hell
seriously impressive though mate
Cheers bud
Engine back out today now I now where the front chassis legs needed to be. All then levelled up ready to build the climbing frame!

My word, so much cutout... Good work on getting in what you have... Let the monkey bars comence.
Having an ass of a time getting a grinder in to cut the rest of the bulkhead out around the bonnet hinges. Grrrr....
Buy a elec saw? They have a smaller end and greater reach.
Yeah, I have thought about that.
You could give leatherface a call think he's on 1 800 cannibal if you look it http://i1328.photobucket.com/albums/...psb4986922.png
Great build one day I will tackle somethin like this one day!
I used an air saw to cut all mine out. So quick and neat
Bought myself a reciprocating saw which turned up yesterday so I got to work this afternoon. Cut the rest of the bulkhead out I needed to then started on profiling some tube. Firstly the small pieces in each bottom corner...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...va/file-29.jpg
Followed by some bigger bits!...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...va/file-30.jpg
I then drilled holes straight through the box section and started tagging it into the bulkhead...

That believe it or not took me around 5hrs! Profiling and checking is sooooo time consuming. But I'm getting there.
Thanks for looking.
Good working with the framing bars dude. Coming on..
Looking good mate
So spent this afternoon undoing what I did last weekend! lol Had a long hard think and wasn't happy with the 1st design so have gone with this now...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psfc3e4ca0.jpg
By doing this it will be easier to make the bulkhead and I will put another horizontal in in the old position too and link it up to it further, following the profile of the a-pillers. And if my guesserments are correct the new horizontal will also be in a good spot for gearbox clearance and the tunnel opening. Obviously still needs the sides of the tunnel.
This not finished yet :(
Be finished next weekend mate, just got a little bit of welding to do lol
Small update from this afternoons work.
Started by making the 2 diagonals that tie the bulkhead into the chassis rails, mounting just before the subframe mounts...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psf6a3b718.jpg
I then drilled out the top subframe mount holes in order to insert some crush tubes, this will be welded in later...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pseeb74414.jpg
Next up was to start making my turret tops. Sadly my 86mm hole saw has seen better days so had to stop but plan on sourcing a new one tomorrow! So got all the subframe and jig all mounted up ready to go...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps100a97d9.jpg
More soon hopefully! Really want the front end done now.
Cool project, loving this.
Been cracking on with the turret tops the last couple of evenings.
Finished off cutting the centre 86mm holes with my new bit then tested them for fitment...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps2ad56ac4.jpg
The holes all lined up so then I trimmed them into circles...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps18791c0b.jpg
Then added skirts...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps651dbfce.jpg
And two tacked up turret tops...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pscc5ff16f.jpg
They now need welding all the way round and cleaning up but ran out of time tonight. Also to be honest I'm not 100% happy with them as they're not perfect circles. Thinking of remaking them but we'll see!
Thanks for looking.
While I wait for my new strut tops to be made I've been cracking on with some more tubing. Getting there slowly...
