i assume the answer is no on both counts.
write to them formally pointing out that you only agreed to buy the sofa on the condition that it arrived on 7/1/13, and the salesperson agreed to this. as they have not managed to do so, they are in breach of your agreement, and you are cancelling the agreement with immediate effect. then make sure your bank cancels any payment instructions that dfs have organised. then change bank accounts & close your old one.
then buy one from a local independant store.
dfs are not in the sofa business, they are in the finance business, the sofa is a byproduct of this, almost a gift..
i have had some bother with them as my mrs ran up about £25k in consumer purchase debts, and we have a payment scheme in place which means in 3 more years, we are out of the woods... and the biggest bother we had was with the people who supplied the finance to dfs.... they have been downright insulting over the phone.. and the fecking sofa was 5" bigger than the one in the shop, she rang them up & got fobbed off with 'the one in the shop is an old model' and she believed them & i ended up cutting a massive chunk out of it to make it fit in place.. i have also made a rule with my mrs that whenever anything other than food, clothes or diesel is purchased, i need to be involved with a tape measure & a pad.. cos buying things that don't fit in the house is not a new thing with her....
