Yeah but you drive like a man through the corners and I drive like a total pussy!!!
And if you are having an expensive manifold made (Edwards / Simpson) nows the time to decide.
Ben's work is spot on, you won't go wrong.
What the... really?
Ehhhh!Quote:
Should be collecting week commencing 11/7/16 then straight up to Hangar 30 for Ben to work some magic, need to get my bits ordered from Hockly, they were out of stock on the gear shifter when I called but they said they'd do me a deal if I bought that a cage and a plating kit at the same time so..........
Too bl***y right it is, I feel like I might have slipped into some sort of parallel Nova owning universe lolQuote:
It's all getting a bit Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Kazakhstan .
Bring it on...
sorry i thought the new shell was track spec'ed already. so took it, that it would be caged already.
Yeah, What's the dry sump kit from QED £12-300. I haven't had any oil pressure problems thus far. Also, others seem to have had a ballache fitting it, let's wait and see, if I get bored then I might do this.
Hockly said they were out of stock of shifter rods when I called to order, I spoke with Jess and explained I would be looking to but a roll cage, plating kit and shifter all together and she said they would look at a little discount for me. Only fair really considering it's nearly £1500!!
Edwards as in Edwards Motorsport?! I have been looking for a manifold and have seen that name around, seems silly to have that engine with a boggo manifold!!
Don't be sorry mate!! New shell will be a blank canvas and we're starting from scratch and doing it properly!!
So with Cadwell approaching a few little housekeeping jobs, well not really house keeping.
I've been having a really annoying intermittent mis-fire, sometimes it's fine, then bogs down, then fine again, I couldn't put my finger on it, changed the plugs, changed the 4 pin coil pack plug and soldered the wired to the pins, thought after yesterday it was leads breaking down when hot, so ordered new leads for Iain to collect for me for Cadwell, then tonight I fired it up and straight from cold, mis-fire!!!
Whilst it was idling, I got a pair of insulated pliers and pulled each plug lead off in turn, expected number 1 to be the problem as it's the oval oily bore!! but the only lead that made no difference was number 2, played around with the lead, closing the jaws of the lead up a little to make sure they were biting the pin and plug correctly, no difference!!!!!
Then tried the injector plugs, again number 2 no difference when unplugged, then as I went to plug it back in, some sort of green liquid inside the injector!! wasn't fuel, oil or coolant, didn't really taste like water but could of been, anyway, airline, blowjob, checked the other 3, 1 other had a little moisture, blown out. test driven, BOOOYA job jobbed!! Gonna fit the new leads anyway as current ones are past their best.
Now enough with all these words, lets get some pics going.
Since moving my seat, I've never been happy with my gear lever position, I know I'm going with the DTT shifter but wanted to try and improve things a little for Cadwell.
Knocked this up out of a bit of tube, double bent and welded.

Came out ok, I think, garage is messy as buggery!!!!
Drilled the inside of the tube out to 12.5 so it sleeved over the existing lever, then tack tack

Moved the knob closer to the wheel and about 100mm higher, road tested, then welded in properly, cleaned up and sprayed. Feels a load better so much closer to the wheel, less time off the wheel and no stretching for first and third. That'll do donkey, that'll do!!
Oh and engine is ready!!!!!
Just need to collect!!!
Double BOOOOOOOYA
Nope, needs to go in the car first, I'd love to have it dyno'd and setup prior to it going in but I'm not able to spare the ancillaries from the car, throttle bodies and such to allow it to be done on the engine dyno, so in the car it'll have to be.
Possibly tempted by a quaife box aswell as I'm told the straight cut box will reduce box losses too. We'll see, if work carries on like it is now for the next 3 months then it'll be triple Booya!!!
OMFG
https://shop.quaife.co.uk/quaife-vau...ential-gearbox
I need this in my life
You'd need your own bell housing and some cunning with the shafts, but a sadev st170 would be porn, proper porn.
there is a supplier in Harlow :)
Hmmmm sounds like hassle!! hahaha
Quaife one looks easy, fits straight up, standard shafts, gear lever and you're away!!
I'm not rallying or racing, only do trackdays and even then I'm gentle!!!
Sequential would be next level!!!!
So long as it had a proper diff and not that poor excuse of an atb.
Always a winner. Although with sequential do you need one aside from pulling away?
They say not, the DTA does ignition cut for upshifts, I think that I'd want to use the clutch for downshifts though!!
On the race bikes we have a sensor that detects the tension on the gear rod and cuts the ignition. Pull the lever and it does the rest, DTA set to a millisecond delay of your choice, easy!!!!
Ohhh posh
Let's see how the next 3 months of work goes, if it all falls into place then maybe, just maybe!!!
I guess the service interval would be handy to know... Mind you most tend to get one per rally season so to speak, so you'd be good for about 5years of track days lol
Oh my word, what have I done.
Exhaust valve full lift

Darren sent me this pic saying it doesn't look right!!! Bugger, as the engine's been with the guys nearly 18 months, I'd completely forgotten that I'd stolen the tensioner for the engine that's in the car now!!
New tensioner and idler ordered from QED, along with camshaft bolts as I seem to have stolen them and used them for wheel bolts or something!!!
Will be complete and under my stairs by Friday next!!!!
Now just to find a gearbox.........................................
Spoke to Quaife today, he said for the application and the use it'll last forever!! It's not like I'm doing drag racing with 10 inch slicks, I drive like a girl, just want that lever and full throttle gear changes. They're waiting for the castings to be completed, reckons they'll be available at the end of August!!!!!!!! Oh dear!!!
Just reviewing the data from today at Cadwell.
Iain managed a 1.43.85
I managed a 1.51.81
Only another 1.81 seconds to find and I'll be at my 1.50 goal.

Videos to follow, including one of some hilarious airborne action down the hill to Mansfield!!
Geeza in a saxo told us he goes round the gooseneck flat in 4th, so Iain dared me to try it.
https://youtu.be/7UWrmea_oYY
Geeza in saxo has 120bhp
Technically you did make it flat out. Just went off racing line a little. I'll pull the footage from me behind and hopefully you can hear me laughing hahaha
A guy in a saxo said......lmfao amazing
https://youtu.be/64iorTtQiAQ
It appears someone had a little curb moment and almost followed me down the hill backwards!!!!
I like this video you two are a pair of hooligans on the track. Good effort
I've been accused of not really trying so I'm trying to show I can drive!!
Iain is still massively quicker than me, I didn't really get many clear laps, I was either lifting off to let someone past or stuck behind poxy Honda civics that refused to move over in the bends and then went flat out on the straights and out dragged me!!
https://youtu.be/EMbErkVxUU8
This vexxed me, hence the gesture when I passed!!!!!
Suprised that didn't end in handbag swinging in the pit lane. Guy should have moved over all day long. Sound like the new car build will be a animal from what ian with two i's was saying earlier!
I'm not one to cry but he was taking the piss!!!
Anyway, a video of me getting spanked by Iain (no not like that Benn)
https://youtu.be/qBCIfTPFkuc
Makes me jealous watching these vids, looks like you pair had a great day :thumb:
Do you run full slicks as well?
We did Bazza, we have a laugh whatever happens and there isn't any ego between us, just out to have fun and annoy as many other people in our 30 year novas as possible!!
No mate, i'm on R888's, Iain doesn't think it makes that much difference but I think I'm gonna invest in some, he's also running more camber and caster than me, hopefully getting mine setup soon.
The list of jobs is growing. Darren sent me these, ready for collection!!!

I'm collecting the new shell Thursday or Friday, up to Iain for strip to rolling shell, then off to Ben for some badass prep, I'm waiting to hear when the box will be ready they're waiting for the casing to be machined, need to find somewhere for a manifold and new system. Temporary gazebo being built over the drive to allow for winter work. All getting a bit Prisoner of Azkaban over here.
Cambelt idler is on the wrong way round ;) also remove that Spring :)
