315hp and 257 ft-lb torque at 1bar boost, only took it to 6500rpm, going to put a few miles on it then take it back and have it checked again and maybe some more power
fkn lol at that pic jim!
Nice power!
Good going for a trailer queen :)
pot & kettle?
lol
Dunno what you mean Chris.
I've done a whopping 5 miles so far this year all under its own steam!!! :)
Very Nice sir, good result :)
Great car this
well its now fully road legal!!
i took it for mot and discovered the quaife box was not going to be any good as the ratios are just too close and not really letting the turbo build boost and pull hard through the gear, was just spending all the time changing gear!
i could have changed the final drive to a higher ratio but as the quaife 1st is long ratio anyway it would have been like setting off in 2nd all the time if id have done that and the in gear ratios would have still been the same anyway.
so i had a look through the vauxhall gearbox info that stuart has in his sig link and found that the f18 has similar in gear ratios and the same 5th ratio to the f28 but a different final drive and in 5spd and as i dont really want to change to a f28 i thought id get a f18, now the f28 has a 3.72 final drive ratio and thats the same as whats in a f20 4x4 gearbox and luckily i aquired a 3.72 cwp from a f20 4x4 gearbox a while back so i went and got a f18 from the scrappy off a cavalier and removed the cluster from it ready to strip all the gears off it and put them onto my 3.72 pinion shaft
cluster out

strip down

its so much better now it has longer ratios
got some new greenstuff pads put in too

Looking good Matt, what cwp did it have ?
Is the old gear set for sale as I may know someone after one.
Nice work, stripping the gearset looks a scary task how do you know what you're doing (as Haynes has nothing about it)?
Front looks a little high on that last pic or am I seeing things
I sooooo need to see this car in the flesh/tin.
I'd be interested to see your times down a quarter mile tbh though ;)
Pm me a price Matthew, I know someone building a nice Xe and he currently has a f28 which I don't think is suitable.
Matthew can i lick it?
I removed my SCCR cluster the same way....

Now leaks oil like a fcukin sieve :(
hi matthew, do you know what the biggest brakes you can fit under those wheels?
cheers al
Just read through this thread and i must say it looks fookin awsome!
jim, you can lick it anytime!
novasport, removing cluster is a hell of alot easier than removing th complete box aint it, i made sure i had the mating surfaces oil free and put sealant on it and its fine
crazy_al, i have 280mm discs and wilwood dynalite calipers and they just fit under the wheels
fossit 85, thanks mate
TBH its only the selector turret and the diff cover plate that is leaking so the cluster can stay in. I fitted everthing dry with new gaskets after making sure the surfaces were spotless. Doesn't help that one of the selector turret bolts has been over tightened in the past so it pulled the threads out when I removed it. Got a helicoil kit on its way to me to repair the thread before I replace both gaskets again.
What sealant did you use?
bugger i have 310mm lol thanks for the reply m8 top car :)
Nice work with the box, that is a hell of a lot of parts to take off and put back on the right way...
Will the car be a Billing? Would love to see it...
Great to see it back up and running Matt, well done
Planning a wee trip up Crail once it's run in?...
thanks for the comments, yeah hope to have it at billing benn
i have got about 230ish miles on it now and touch wood all is running well lol

Awesome! Black bolts look better, like the Opel cover too.
Just had a wee read.
Very brave painting the wheels black. Mine are a bit battered but im holding off painting them as the gaphics are original.
Looking superb!
What model is those wheel bolts off mate?
Will you be running center caps?
They are e36 alloy wheel bolts. Same as i use on mine as they are around 7mm longer. You can also use e39 5-series ones too, which look slightly different but are the same dimensions. I get around 8 full turns with no spacers.
Just read all 56 pages in an attempt to answer a question i had about the box. Which i found out the answer to on page 54 lol
Very nice work i have to say.
Looking very good now, I think all changes made have majorly improved this car no end...!
