well ive decided to go with eaqual length shaft setup and grp a hubs as im unsure the cvs will cope if i use the 22spline nova gte shafts, knuckles are currentley away being machined for the bigger bearings so hope to have them back soon
also thanks to brucer for the shaft that mates up to the dummy shaft
pic of shafts

Im still not convinced it make much difference if you have a good clutch and diff, as i see it as another joint means anorther weakness?
But big block/shafts are a better option IMO.
Scott
I found it took almost all sideways pull away when booting it.
well ive got shafts painted and built up now

Could have tarted up the knuckles first Matthew!
Aaaah Mathew dont you have spray can up norf?
Other than that...................Top work fella :)
lol, well i guessed if i wanted to paint them id need to have them blasted first or they would just come back through rusty again and i couldnt be bothered with that atm, i may get them done in the future though
Looking good as always, btw have a spy in my thread, see if you recognise my latest purchase lol
LOL yeah it felt awesome. Never again though! LOL
If hubs are machined correctly, you shouldn't have a prob. But again good work Matt, really wanna see this car in the flesh.
I have first hand, very scarey. My mates Corsa broke one in about 500miles(Mtec stuff) mine which are machined the right way have been fine for 4/5 years...
And awesome, would love too the car in the flesh, work you've done is amazing.
There was nothing more satisfying than hearing my engine running for first time yesterday with no major issues but there was nothing more dis heartening than going into the garage thismorning to find oil leaking down the side of the sump coming from the crank seal - gearbox side ! what a total ****ing *******
Bad luck dude, welcome to the rest of us'es world.
Did it drive out under its own steam?
Is that it now ready for the road this year?
rather a crap pic, yes it does move under its own steam now, i just need to get it mapped then run it in
Stunning! More daylight pics needed though. Am looking forward to seeing it at billing!
Looks awesome dude, roll on mapping vids then...
today i changed my back axle for one i had in stock that had the conversion plates welded on as the one that was on just had spacer plates that werent welded to the axle
axle off

lacking pics but new axle on

exhaust, 3 silencers to make it reasonably quiet
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...172/004-32.jpg
and when i was finished fitting the axle and it was back on its wheels i noticed it was sitting slightly higher on the drivers side rear, i havnt taken much notice before hand but after some head scratching and pi55ing around i discovered the front drivers side was sitting approx 10mm higher than the pass side therefore puttting more weight on the rear pass side and making it sit lower on that corner so after some more pi55ing around it turns out my strut insert seals are bust and pi55ing oil out and also theres a internal problem with the insert as it should have around 5" travel and it will only push in 3" max, thats why it was sitting higher on that front corner, not sure what make the insert is, fearless thinks its either bilstein or decarbon. ill just send it to hockly and let him fix it i think. some times its just one thing after another lol

These things are sent to try us Matt!
If everything was straight forward wouldnt it be a boring build? :)
What are the straps for?
Any Id numbers on the insert Matt ?
Straps are used to restrict the droop on the rear beam - stopping the springs from falling out
Its an old trick the rally boys used to do - in fact they used the same progressive spring in the rear for forest and tarmac events but used the straps to 'lower' the rear for tarmac events, by compressing the rear suspension and using the strap to hold the desired height !!!
Without stripping mine down I can't confirm which ones you have
The pilbeam struts came from Iain at Eurorally and were sold as Tarmac spec Pilbeam Struts - but I cant remember what he said the inserts were - I have a feeling he said Decarbon (thats what the works rally novas originally ran)
A quick call the Martin at Harry Hockly Motorsport should give you all the info you need - what he doesnt know about nova's isn't worth knowing
A search around the internet suggest its a Decarbon Number -
Quote :"The CR05 code is a De Carbon number. I think that this was a gravel rear shock. I think that CR03 was tarmac"
So you'd think CF would be front
If your struggling to find out let me know and make some phone calls
