Cheers Scott, we left about 10...
I wondered across about 7 and you were packing up then :( Looked nice on the new wheels though...
I like this very good job mate :thumb:
Was good meeting up with you. Wheels looked ever better than I thought they would Ben. Great car!!! Shame I didn't get to see it better due to the sh*tty weather...
Deffo, have to again for more parts soon..lol Glad you liked the finish wheel job. Wouldn't of been sorted with out you. Hopping next time we meet it's in the warm sunny air.
Start of an update. Haven't used the car in a week. Pulled it out of the garage to find this much oil under the car...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown25.jpg
Now It's leaked since i built it annoyingly. Thought it was the sump. But now think it's the oil pump to block seal. Which only seems to be getting worse, as i'ev now needed to top the oil up. Something i've not had to do before.
Car out side...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown26.jpg
Think she's scared about what happening...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown28.jpg
Front coming apart...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown29.jpg
Nice collection building up behind the ic..lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown1.jpg
Car back in garage and jacked up. IC and rad out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown3.jpg
Start stripping. Now while doing the pump gasket, i'm also changing the turbo. As i have a low mile rebuild hybrid unit ready to fit too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown4.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown5.jpg
Made this after seeing Gareth at WCC using one.. Very handy when the rads in..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown6.jpg
This are a **** to get out...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown7.jpg
Remember kids, set jubliee clips up so you can still undo them when under the car/every things in the car.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown8.jpg
Turbo off.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown11.jpg
This is the breather that goes to the turbo inlet, which has water in it, is this normal from condensation?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...stripdown9.jpg
Which means i get a build up here in the re-circe(sp?)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown15.jpg
Surely not a good thing....?
Now the exhaust side looks ok... No oil or anything, Which i thought there would be as i get smoke on idle..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown13.jpg
Turbo outlet.. A bit oily but not to bad... For the amount of oil i get in the pipes...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown23.jpg
Hhhmm something been in there?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown16.jpg
Damage on the impellers..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown17.jpg
But it drove fine, made boost fine...
Exhaust side, all clean, just whiteish soot.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown20.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tripdown21.jpg
Left it there, ready to strip the pump off....
Oh dear! Did you find the source of the oil lake finally?
Deffo think its the pump to block join. As it is very wet above the line of the sump.
who you having to re-con the turbo benn?
With Dan help to get the bottom pulley bolt off. Got all the belt cover off, belt off and then started stripping it down...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0639.jpg
Puddle of oil...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0640.jpg
Ah i see a leak..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0641.jpg
Looks like both are leaking quite bad..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0642.jpg
Wet above the pump... So cant be the pump leaking. From what i can see on the seal it looks dry.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0643.jpg
This seal is dry too... Which i have been wondering if it was leaking..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0644.jpg
So gonna get two gen cam seals and a new bottom pulley bolt on order tomoz. Built it back up after cleaning it. Then see if that fixes it.
I bet you get mighty peed off having to strip this down when it's looking soooo good, do you tend to buy genuine GM parts these days or not Benn?
I have to, to make it right. It's simply not good enough.
I hate the fact it's leaking. And i try to use GM parts or as close to them as poss.
I think I got brainwashed with my old engine, I'd never bought anything but GM. I know theres good reproductions and probably the same companies that even supplied GM but I got paranoid if I went elsewhere incase the parts were faulty.
Elring and Payne make most Gm seals. So i try and use them. But we stock FIA at work, so i use them too alot.
So why the feck is this in bits then if it's FIA gubbins lol
I jest btw, oh where's the next PS you needing doing anyway? ;)
I think the cam seals are Payne too..lol But both are leaking... Who knows really.. And erm... Dont remember...
I feel your pain on the oil leaks too dude :(
Double check the rocker gasket in the corners over the cams, I had similar build up of oil in the same place as you and I did the cam seals and bottom pulley seal twice before finding it was actually the rocker cover!
I'm in the process of doing the crank seal and end cap on the gearbox side to try and stop mine leaking, Also got a new seal for the oil cooler sandwich plate incase thats loosing some.
Keep up the good work :thumb:
I believe it was done at your place.. So what ever you would normally do...lol How would i tell of anything else?
New cam seals (One Payne, was ment to be two but only one came, but Dan had a spare Gm one) So rocker cover off.. Strut brace off first as it's in the way...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0655.jpg
Dan reminded me that the cam caps should have sealant under them as there is no gasket or anything on them... Something i didn't know last time i put it together.. So hopping that's another reason for the leak..
So this time i've smeared a film of RTV over each one before re fitting after the new cam seals where fitted..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0654.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0652.jpg
New Payne Rocker cover gasket too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0656.jpg
Noticed this, cheap ones seem to be very hard. But a GM is soft as is this Payne one.. But maybe that makes a different.. As all cheap ones i've had have leaked..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0657.jpg
All fitted, but while i was there i need to remove the fuel rail and swap with a spare that has the fpr blank on it, so did that so i can fit this..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0668.jpg
Thinking i can fit it where the hot start valve bolts to the top hat... So cut and redrilled the bracket..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0670.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0669.jpg
Seems to fit. But left it there, fuel line trimming next..
On to shiney!
New found a guy who can do this to save me time and back pain from standing at the bench polisher... Big thanks to Old man Jimbo. Fantastic polishing service.
One chromed state too :) All bolts are polished stainless.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../Shiney510.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../Shiney512.jpg
New polished RC bolts too. Sadly the RC it's self needs re chroming :(
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/Shiney56.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/Shiney58.jpg
Stainless polished jubliee clips... Just For Dave Dempsey...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/Shiney55.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/Shiney59.jpg
New turbo ready to fit, so i spent £90 on Roose silicone hoses... The rear turbo water feed wouldn't fit tho.. Oh now i see why...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0671.jpg
More to moz.
Loving your work big boy...
No, loving yours....
lol #blushes#
Looking good as always dude
Cheers Scott.
shiny shiny always dude
Looking good Benn attention to the little details as always is top quality
Iain
Excellent thread Benn, reading your spannering exploits is like reading a very very good book. And I get a chance to learn something about turbo'ed XE's too! :thumb:
It's the best way dude.
That's what i find to, they are the bits i look for on a build.. Cheers :)
Thank you Niek, all part of the fun i guess..lol turbos can be fun... Mostly when you fit boost!
Didn't get alot done to day.
Before i want the fpr hidden away a bit i've had to remake the bracket that mounts it.. So bit of CAD.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0672.jpg
Then some cutting and filing.. And a coat of gloss black..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0673.jpg
Fuel line that is a **** to cut have been cut down to meet the fpr too. Is a nice tight fit on that and the bit i cut off fits from fuel line to fpr too..
And a fun lil update. I use a Corsa Key and barrel. Which means this..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0676.jpg
Non working...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0674.jpg
Change this over..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0675.jpg
Yay.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0677.jpg
Remember my nice Roose hoses?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_0671.jpg
The one that didn't fit... They want me to post them back with my GM bit and they will fix it... More delays... GGrrrr
At lest now when I order my roose hoses I know the turbo ones will fit ;)
Looking good, as normal nice and shiney
This one is sh*te... But at least if they copy my one then we'll be ok.
ooo were did you get the battery from benn?
you sir are top man :thumb:
