anyone have any ideas on why the hammerite stonechip paint decided to start pealing of the paint underneath
Mine did the same, flaked off with a light brushing with a screwdriver. On the entire floorpan! Hurry up fabbing up the metal for the engine bay and I'll come help you weld it up
i started trying to weld it up my self, doesn't look to bad after i flap disked the hell out of it lol
Hammerite is fine when it used on its own but when used with any other paint it just reacts or does not stick
pain in the **** as the cans weren't exactly cheap :/ never mind im going to take iains advice and just use black underseal on it now, as I know I wont bother keeping the inner arches clean
Have you tried waxoyl will probs stick better
well I've got myself a new job...................and with money comes motivation!!!!!!!!! I LOVE MY NOVA AGAIN!!!! :)
went and got some part worn tyres just to get the beast into a roller again. only thing they had in stock was 185/60/15's and they rub like mad!!! lol (nothing I cant sort with a grinder and a fresh thin blade next weekend!)

plan was to roll it out of the garage and give it a wash but decided to be fit the rear suspension set up (spax rsx adjustable shocks and some 60mm lowering springs) couldn't get the rear shocks in place so had to weigh down the boot with 100kgs of ballast and about 60+kgs of old concrete from a old fencing job.....left the springs slightly compressed!

felt really good bullying the ford of the drive for a bit lol

engine and box are going in this weekend..................if any locals want to come have a poke around it :)
made a start on getting the engine in today as I finished work early....didn't get to far but its one step closer!!!!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...19135927_n.jpg
thought I drained the engine oil....clearly never did
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...72415553_n.jpg
looks like I might have another early finish tomorrow so hopefully get the engine bolted in place! could have used a extra set of hands really I used my self as a engine crane braced one foot on the cross member and the other on the steering rack and managed to lift the engine in place but just couldn't get the bolts/nuts on to keep it there at the same time....never mind was a stupid idea anyway turns out engines and gearboxes are rather heavy lol
I am enjoying this event log of your calamities. Paint your XE cutout before the engine goes in!
May i ask what didn't you paint the bay.
nuts and bolts. washer bottle. header tank. gearbox.....it looks a bit samey right now but once its running i will be getting shiny bits and polishing bits of metal etc.... wasnt a main concern before as it was just going to be a track slag
with the help of this epic small engine crane!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...76b61e75544b6f
I managed this.......
https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/...91225571_n.jpg
properly chuffed with todays efforts :)
Well done dude, where you get the crane from?
Coulda borrowed my crane lol
a friend of a friend lent it to me for beer money. its great light as anything and lifts suprisingly high for the size of it
lol wish i kept that crane burgo would have saved me a lot of ball ache
Another enjoyable thread, great to see an engine back in it too :)
You have a crane but fitted the engine from the bottom??
Easiest way
i see no benfit going over the top on a nova...with all the mounts bolted to elthe engine and gearbox it lifts straight in to place! job jobbed lol
Awesome amount of progress dude. If you're not careful you'll be over taking me. Best I get my finger out!
Oh wait, I'm looking at mot this week... :thumb:
How's the earth strap holding up?
Looking good mate coming on really good :)
I have seen this and it's true, the engine is in place, he's not just spent the winter learning how to use Photoshop. Minimal cable ties holding on structural components too. Please get a manifold before starting it though lol
1st start with the manifold on is for girls........ make some noise tj
action plan this weekend is getting the gearbox and engine remounted correctly, finishing off the brakes (i.e fitting the hoses and trying to work out how easy my easy bleed kit is :/ )
if that's all done (only taking baby steps or its going to be booted to ****) then I will finish running the fuel lines and grind out the rear arches so they stop scrubbing!!!
right I just cant get this gearbox to mount correctly. no amount of jiggling or bitching about is helping!
so I took the engine and box back out of the car..
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...e57459651d1393
https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...691047155778aa
thought it would be easier to mount out of the car...
https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/...51&oe=54F6B2A3
it made no fecking difference...still got this gap
https://scontent-a-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/...34&oe=54C031C9
so I flap disked the lug down as it was slightly mangled from be trying to bodge it in place :d
so now it sits flush but not all thee holes line up...ive tried putting the box in neutral and twisting the box but I keep having the same problem one or two of the holes will line up but the others will not!!
don't know if anyone can see anyproblems from these pics but if you can help me out lol

Dunno if it's the pic but the clutch friction plate (with the female splines) doesn't look aligned, you massive bodger
how do I get it lined up if that's the case?
the engine was taken out of a working car and I never removed the clutch so I don't know how it can be lined up wrong :tard:
you will have moved it ball assing around tryna get it in lol.
I always use my finger to line them up and never had a problem, poke ya finger through when the pressure plate is nipped but not tight, then when ya finger goes straight through and into the recess in the crank what the input shaft end goes into, hold it there and tighten the 6 clutch bolts.make life easier for yourself by greasing the splines on the input shaft too.
Yep by eye/finger/socket/socket extension is easy enough esp now it's out and on the floor. It could have had a posh clutch on and they threw a cheapy standard one on for the sale
who in their right mind would put a posh clutch on a 1200 fartbox hahaha
Leigh.
he wouldn't cos he cant line it up lol lol lol
Ha shows what you know andy pandy its bolted on now and back in the car :p
p.s my fat fingers wouldnt fit so i used a chunky screwdriver lol
well it shows how much I DO know as yav now sorted it with my advice lol
