Dougie's Nova is indeed s**t brown but that is definately a few shades darker and isn't Moca brown for sure. Is it metallic count vaux? If so it is prob Brazil brown. I like it, a lot. Can't wait for 2008 season, sure to be a hell of a lot of saloons :D

Interior wise i think i want to go cobra classic buckets in tan or similar and leave them headrest less like this:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/classiccobras.jpg
ive got a set of sport clocks but other than that fairly standard.
I reckon calibra cream leather would suit it better though
Count Vaux Alot
26-01-08, 11:28 PM
I dont think its metallic the only colour i could find in halfords close to it was brazil and i painted my plug cover in it to see how it turned out as below and that isn't metallic??

Personally I think the mk2 saloon rear bumper would look tonnes better and leave them std or maybe just re-paint them grey.
Excellent project though matey, look forward to seeing it at some shows when its finished. :thumb:
Count Vaux Alot
27-01-08, 10:19 PM
i'm glad people are feeling the wheels i searched for ages to find the right ones and ended up importing these from germany as i loved them so much and they have a decent off set...most euro look ones are ET 30 and below which as we all know is rubbish for novas.
I like the way this man thinks!
I couldn't of picked a better set of wheels to suit that, plus your using carbs - the mans choice :thumb: lol
This is going to be emeince, I can see it now. Bumper wise, smooth the standard skinny ones ;)

Have a look and see what you think....the welding isn't up to much but i'm no professional so itsas good as it can get! :)

I cant say how helpful the roll over frame is, it has helped me no end. It was so easy to get to the under side.....this would have been such a pain on my back and then simply lower it down again to do the bay job done!

Time for an update!
Firstly i was bored at work so i stripped the sus down cleaned it and painted it....that was ARB, hub carrier and control arms.
I decided to strenghthen the control arms as well so here they are:
I stripped the sus and cleaned it
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/11022008998.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/11022008999.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/180220081056.jpg
Then on to the control arms:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/120220081001.jpg
Made a cut out template for the plates and cut them out in metal
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/120220081004.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/120220081009.jpg
Then welded them on

18-02-08, 09:40 PM
Then on to a splash of black paint
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/180220081054.jpg
I did the steering rack and a few other bit but cant find the pics now :tard:
Over the weekend i had a mass weld session and completed the engine bay and moved on to the rear turrets...didn't really know how to approach this so just went for it and made it up as i went...i thought it went well enough.
Rolled the turret
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081036.jpg
cut it to size grinder style!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081037.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081038.jpg
Then i cut the whole also a la grinder it went surprisingly well
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081034.jpg
and tried the turret in the hole for size

Cut the turret to size and welded it in then added some strenghthening to the bottom of the turret as so

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081044.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081047.jpg
i made a turret top with tabs to weld in (ended up cutting half of the tabs out as they were in the way)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081048.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/170220081051.jpg

At work today i made up the gusset for the alternator on the o/s/f chassis leg i started by a rough drawing then a measure up and draw out on the metal
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/190220081066.jpg
Then a quick cut out and bend exercise
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/190220081067.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/190220081068.jpg
Once i got home i marked out the area of metal to be removed on the chassis leg and gave it a good grinding!
Followed by a test fit it fit, it well for a first attempt.....
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/190220081071.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/190220081072.jpg
I then flipped the dam thing over again on my own with the hellp of my trusted engine crane (its usually a two man job but the old man was out!) and added the strengthening to the bottom of the turret as i did at the top

Didn't make much progress over the weekend as i was away in Germany so i've been playing catch up this week.....i managed to get hold of a new tank!

taking extra care that they were all located correctly.

Got on with some more nova related antics today, It was a very nice day so cleared all the stuff out of the garage and put the car back on its belly, then removed the wings, the result was pleasantly pleasing as it was quite clean underneath!

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/020320081106.jpg
And the arches weren't to bad either
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/020320081107.jpg
Then i got on with cleaning up the engine bay in preperation for some priming and seam sealing as so
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/020320081111.jpg
Started off with the wire wheel on the grinder then the sanding disc and finally the DA sander befor the acid primer
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/020320081112.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/020320081113.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/020320081114.jpg
Then a quick mask up to prevent any fcuking over spray on everything i didn't want it on!
And a good application of primer on to the bare metal....
I thought it came out well although it doesn't make that much difference as everything will be preped properly when the time for painting in colour comes. After the primer had dried i carried on with the seam sealer as i'm going for a factory type finish as im not sure if the filling method is worth the time??

Just a tip, but the loom is well easy to remove from the bay, just remove the glovebox and pull it through. Paint finish will look much better with everything removed from the bay imo.

Had a quick mince on the car today at work as i took the wings and boot lid in with me this morning to take full advantage of work bordom!
Started off the boot smoothing by removing the lock and cutting a pice of metal to fill the lock hole in the boot.

Then removed the paint around the lock hole

And a quick splundge of weld
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/050320081137.jpg
Then a sand down to asses the amount of fcuking distortion in the boot (more than hoped)

And the start of some filling and sanding

Sounds good mate, just one quick word of advice, when i first flushed my boot i ended up warping it, one corner stuck out more than the other, the reason why is obviously because of the heat, i learnt from this and instead of using a bead of weld it's best to just use lots of little tacks, i flushed my mates corsa boot like this and it's come out perfect!, it hasnt warped at all and the plate is 100% secure, plus i didnt have to use as much filler. good luck with the rest of the build, cant wait to see it freshly painted up.

Thanks for the advice but i didn't actually weld that a friend at work did as i was busy otherwise i would have used the small tacks of weld method as i did with my corsa vans boot, i did call him a T wat for warping it so much!

Not too much of a problem as long as he sorts it!

After the spares day at coventry which i might add was quite good only got a few bits :D i was feeling bored and decided to focus on my rear arch repair.
I cut all the crust away to see what the damage was
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/090320081143.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/090320081144.jpg
It wasn't that bad, then i decided to cut the repair panel to a manageable size
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/090320081147.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/090320081149.jpg
And shaped the cut out in the arch to match
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/090320081148.jpg
And welded it in and tidied it up not to bad and mininal destortion, I had to use a rubbish welder though as the good one is a work really annoying and more time consuming.

Cheers for the PM top man!
I thought you would like it, it was from ebay but not the one mentioned earlier in the thread....this one was cheaper :D but as soon as i had collected it one of my mates said he had one in his garage i could have had for beer money  sods law i might have it off him anyway ;).
As for progress its steady and im content but not as pleased as i could be as there is still LOADS to do. After the arches its back underneath for a finish up on the underseal (not sure what to use yet as i want as close to factory underseal as poss) then i suppose its paint prep and rolling shell time....still havent finished the engine yet though.

Hello i've got a surprise for you all! I have been inspired by John and his banded steels and some other sites were they have been discussed and decided it can't be that hard so i tried and made my own what do we think?

At work today in my 'free' time i decided i would knock up another one!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/130320081212.jpg
And there were two
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/130320081215.jpg
This is how they were made....
Started off with this old thing only 5 inch wide!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/100320081157.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/100320081156.jpg
Then i cut the front lip off it on the lathe
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/100320081160.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/100320081161.jpg
Found a donor 5 and a half inch rim and cut the front lip of that
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/100320081163.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/100320081165.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081168.jpg
Count Vaux Alot
13-03-08, 08:50 PM
Then cut the centre out of the donor wheel
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081169.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081171.jpg
This left me with the rear lip of both wheels one with the centre left the nova one and the donor with out the centre
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081174.jpg
Then i simply combined the two rear sections of wheel as so:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081176.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081177.jpg
The result a 7.5 inch wide wheel! YES!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081180.jpg
And a nice deep dish
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081185.jpg
I had it sand blasted then cleaned it all up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081187.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/110320081190.jpg

the deep steelies look cool mate!
Count Vaux Alot
13-03-08, 08:55 PM
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/120320081197.jpg
Then attempted to weld it up which didn't go according to plan....
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/120320081204.jpg
I believe this to be some thing to do with the sand blasting process as they said the sand blasting could have inpregnated the metal with resin this made it spatter like mad and was a complete **** to weld hence i haven't had the second one sand blasted yet and will get it done now its welded up!
Count Vaux Alot
13-03-08, 08:56 PM
See no.2 and a much neater weld!

very clever, tyres are gonna cost plenty tho??
you do realise you gonna get lots of orders for these dont you??
Count Vaux Alot
13-03-08, 09:41 PM
Well considering i'm planning on fitting 165/55/14 or 175/50/14 or some thing around there then it shouldn't be that costly as they are every dat tires stretched! result indeed
Count Vaux Alot
13-03-08, 09:43 PM
As for orders.....if you have the wheels to start with anythin is possible ;)
Count Vaux Alot
16-03-08, 08:44 PM
Evening all just a quick update...sat morning i finished all the wheels and took the whole set to the sand blasters so tomorow i can have a tidy up and get them down the powder coaters asap so i can get a tire fitted to at least one wheel as i planned on bringing one with me on the 22nd so people can have a look if the so wish (assuming all goes according to plan).
I think i'm going to have them powdered silver then paint the centre black/anthecite as they were on the origional wheel, i think the silver will show off the dish the best? And the colour wont be specific to my nova!

Update ahoy people!
Finally i decided to get on with the rear arch repair! the usual cut out the rust, clean up the surrounding area, repair the inner arch then the outer! It seems to take forever after the end of today i had completed the n/s to the stage of grinding the welds back ready for filling its tedious as hell! But the results should be worth it....a nova with rust free rear arches lol
This is the rear arch after i had cut out the rust in the inner arch and repaired it
