Then on to the engine which i have been putting off until the bay was near ready, Started the rebuild of the bottom end with the arp fastners mains first and big ends which for some unknown reason i have no pics for ??

Then oil pump baffle, oil strainer ect and sump on and all tightened up.

Thentimed up and belt on, I also had a play with the cam cover and plug cover just to see what it looked like and i like it!

Once i had put the thermostat, dip stick, engine mount and plastic coolant pipe back on the block i left the engine alone and concentrated my efforts back on the car as i'm waiting for a billet flywheel, and some roose motor sport hoses from chris astley and i don't know which clutch to go for any ideas people??

Sorted some new rear discs and shoes then fitted the shoes and painted the discs

I turned the car on its side again for what i hope will be the last time to fit the now gold fuel tank, new fuel lines, and brake lines that are also gold as so

Then car back on the floor the right way up to fit the rear axle, rear coil overs and discs, I then quickly fit the rear wheels and these trollys so i could move it around easily again.

Every thing fits well so far and the wheel castors (ex bread trollys) work a treat :D :thumb:

The plans are now to get the engine completely finished and refit the gear box then apply it to the engine bay and begin to plumb it all in, rebuild the front sus and fab up an exhaust befor beginning paint prep so there is still sooo much to do befor PV!

top job count.
pimpin rims, they suit it well, i like the retro pressed plates too.
and an excellent job on the custom rear brace/suspension tunnelling and all the welding that went with it, alongside the strengthening and arch repairs.
i think its safe to say youve restored that nova to more than its former glory allready, and its not even finished yet. dont let anybody tell you you cant do something, u got skills man, keep it up.
im picturing a brown salloon with a roof rack sat on the line at the drag strip, with the carbs going 'blub, blub, blub'.

Thanks for all the positive feed back, i'm waiting on the new clutch and flywheel now befor i can put the engine back in and i'm very aware of the fact there is only 6 weeks!! until PV......bugger.
it looks like a few days off work here and there is needed! Should find out this week when the rest of my paint can be done so fingers crossed.

Up date time everone and there has been some changes to say the least the car is now running and mobile! There are a few bits to sort out but its just the body work to sort out now

So here goes!

Had a go at sorting some of the door rust there was only one offending patch so cut it out and patched it then removed the locks and small dents etc..

I modified the manifold to take the vacuum pipe for the servo just a simple drill and tap job

then it was on with the billet lightweight flywheel and long long long awaited clutch that finally allowed me to put the engine and box together so i could fit it, The feckin clutch set me back 4weeks not happy at all.

Once it was in i got to work on the pipe work for the Fueling and throttle linkage, i filled a facet redtop comp fuel pump and filter kink filter/fuel pressure regulator which work well!

It went first time no trouble i was so so pleased and sounds great! I slipped the wheels on and it was time to get it outside for its first outing in a long time so i could run it for a while to check for leaks

I know there is loads more to do and its not much to look at in this state but its so full of potential and really makes me want to get on and get it all sorted but i don't think that it will be ready for pv as i wont be able to get the bodywork and respray done in time which is really dissapointing!

Thanks again for all the positive feed back on the car did a little more tonight....moved it out side and ran it for 20mins to check for leaks again and in that time two people stopped their cars and asked what it was i was up to and how i was getting on (i live in a small village so thats alot of passers by) i also refit the drivers seat so i can move it and cleaned out the garage while the car was out the way.

The next step is window removal and new exhaust next tues!

Onwards as they say!

1 the logo wasn't my choice thats how they built it and i wasn't there as for the exit its self its personal pref i suppose better that the usual barry boy crap thats usually on show which ever way you look at it :p

Thanks novacabrio i really like them too and as i say when ever anyone comments on them....they took ages and ages to find and are my fav part of the car too they get better the more ou look at them i think (big up myself over) and once the car is dropped lower after the paint then it will look spot on!

:tard: erm this is quite obviouse and as i have said befor they are show wheels that i prob won't even use, not on the brown saloon anyway as the V6 brakes wont clear!

The guestimated finish time from the bodyshop is end of the week/weekend so i wont hold my breath but we will see, if so hopfully all back together and ready to be rolling roaded at the start of july!

Think your self lucky I took mine to a very highly recommended local body shop and it took three years for him just to get in primer and then he went an got sent to jail, oh the joys of wanting a nice paint job

Right the car has been painted, but not the doors, boot, and bonnet yet (there being done today/tomorow). I will say i'm so so happy with the result its a great job but i don't think i'm going to post any pics up untill it looks more complete as i think it will ruin the impact and my camera phone isn't up to the detail (i have a very good digital camera that i will use) and will only be detrimental to the quality of the job. This post may seem a little pointless but its really just to update progress although i know you lot will want pics you will have to wait......

This was the point i got to for the VBOA weekend last weekend at Billing were i was invited to join the JustOpelVauxhall guys on their stand which was great and i was very pleased with the result and all of the comments fron various people thanks to everyone!

I had her on the rollers yesterday at Northampton motor sport for a rolling road set up/tune and made a healthy (but slightly disappointing given the spec) 181bhp i was hoping for over 200bhp, the guys did a great job and were very competent exhausting all possible avenues available to make it produce more power ie jetting, ignition timing, cam timing, choke size, fuel pressure, compression checks etc etc so i was told to use it and see how i get on?? Some pics to follow......

Well my car is not rat look thats for sure and the roof rack is just a bit of fun, for example on the way home from trax a new BMW 630 tried it on and you should have seen his face when i learned him one! the look he gave me was priceless hence the roof rack is a worthy accessory from time to time.

Besides its in keeping with the out for a picnic or on a road trip to a coastal resort in 1985 might have looked like (if you had a brown nova saloon with xe and big drop)

Picture the scene.....

I'm sat in the smallest room in the house, quietly reading the latest
copy of Retro Cars.

Some optomist has taken one of a Nova Saloon of all things, painted it brown and actually made something cool

Now I'm a stranger to this forum but I've suffered a few Vauxhalls in the past, I learnt to drive and passsed my test in my own mk1 Astra and then went on to own another 4, a cav and had a couple of mk1 novas.

Anyway, I digress...... I'm reading the magazine and looking at the tiny build pics when something catches my eye. A roll over stand, not just any roll-over stand either - one of mine if I'm not mistaken!

I designed those stands for a VW caddy, did some plans and released them on a few VW forums, I then sold my stands on ebay and got inundated by people asking for plans.

So how did you come by them?

I've come on here to find the build thread and am well impressed, you've done some good work and turned out a tidy result!

As far as im aware the stands are nothing to do with you (sorry to burst your bubble lol) as i made them myself using some sketches from a project thread on here - i am how ever unaware of were he got them from so they could be yours??
