So will there be alot of jiggery pockery to get the car all set/aligned up correctly once road worthy?

t45_ste
23-05-10, 12:21 AM
yeah somthing like that.

Alot of trial and error but its all a learning curve, everthing on the car is adjustable so its going to be a case of experimenting with differant setups.

Hopefully going to get some open pit track days in.

Southie
23-05-10, 12:25 AM
Sounds good to me, probably take a far bit to setup but once you've done it it will be quality. I'd love to see this running so pm me nearer the time it's out and about :)

Not really got many photos. Floors been cut out, tie bars are fixed in. Floor plates been made for the ap floor mounted pedals. Brackets been made for steering column. Brackets been laser cut for dry sump tank.

Tonys made a start on making the arches ready to take moulds off. These have to be taken up a few inch and widened trying to keep some of the lines.

Will try and get some more photos up.

There not the latest ap setup, that i would like.

As for the arches they will be taken out to the same width as the rears and up to follow the lines. Hes making the front end one piece, wings, bonnet and bumper.

I need to get hold of some slicks though to make sure they fit in the arches.

Yes, lovely bits of kit they are.

I made enquiries about the full carbon fibre pedal box that DJM Motorsport (builders of McRae's Mk.2) do, and found out it's £2400 + VAT, and that's without master cylinders. Ouch.

with the arches been extra extra wide will you be doing them so they still come back in at the ends or will you just vent the difference at the doors and rear or car ?

t45_ste
26-01-11, 03:01 PM
They will be taken back in. One of the photos shows the rear coming back to meet the rear of the car. They have had to have a few inch taken out the midle due to it being so low. Moulds will then be taken and them laid up in carbon.

I bought the bearing housing from here http://www.mcgillmotorsports.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=37

As i mentioned though i had to vibro etch them due to the bearings they supply not being a brilliant fit i will also be bearing locking them in.

http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd315/ste_ed/24022010278.jpg

I made the allighnment spacers my self to fit inside the knuckle and bearing.

If you want i can meaure them and post them up.

conad
15-02-11, 09:11 PM
I saw you got the housing from McGill, it's the bit that sticks up I'm after (I'm rubbish with the names of things lol)... The bit that's being clamped with the hex bolt. Yes please mate, any measurements would be a great help. Cheers.

Afraid no real updates. I went down to tonys and he hasnt done anything on it for the last 3 months, busy with other things.

Im still on with the loom, going to be taking it down next week and make a start putting it in.

Iv also been modifying my ap pedal set. Made a throttle linkage to convert it from push to pull and made it spring return. Will get some pics up next week.

Iv also bought new rad and carbon housing that was used on one of the 90's vauxhall super tourers

No

Im going to get the loom, oil lines, fuel lines and brake lines in the car so all the brakets are in place then take it all back out before ot goes back to him.

Theres loads of little bits that i am capable of doing.

When iv finished with it the car will go back down to him for finishing.

Bit of an update

I have now finally finished the oil lines and have them temporarily installed. Iv made a floor for inside the car out of carbon and have the fuel lines finished. Currently on with making some tabs to hold the floor in and all the lines. Also modifying the ap pedal box to a spring return and making a throttle linkage.

Iv made a start on the loom but short on time at the minute.

Heres a few rough photos.

As above, glad to see this moving again!
I think it was Tony's monster of a project I saw on another thread - was it a V8 twin turbo or something in an old ford? He finished that now?

That will be his riff chopped mk2 cortina. He's not finished it yet but it's certainly getting there. Very talented at what he does.

If you keep some of that gap in the back of the wide front arches you can reduce the drag & add some downforce.

Made a start on the rear to make it look like the front, leaving it open at the back

Bent up a piece of ally to make mould a couple of layers of fibreglass to

There hasn't really been any progress in the last 2/ 3 years. Got a bit more love for it again recently so spending a big of time on it whenever I can.

I think you just hit the nail on the head, I know with my build anyway. its not just always life, family, money that gets in the way its also your mood & enthusiasm towards the project. I find I binge for a few weeks/months then walk away for months on end.
