Not done an update thread on my car for ages, but done a fair few bits, so time for a W.I.P. thread...

For those of you that dont know it:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/July0715-1.jpg

Well after blowing my turbo engine up back in august just before the PNG llandow trackday, i decided to use the XE from my white one in it, to go to the trackday.

So 7pm friday night, just after the knocks and bangs began!:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC04894.jpg

It got towed down to my garage where it was to be changed over, ready for some abuse on the Monday at Llandow. :thumb:

I got the white one in this condition, with the intended use of repairing it and using it for winter:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/crash1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/crash5.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/crash4.jpg

I got this the first week in July, and found an XE for it, with all conversion parts etc, so this got done and was nearly ready for the road by late july!

Anyway, I raided the white Nova for its XE engine:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC04897.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC04898.jpg

Out came the blue Nova's turbo engine:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC04514.jpg

And the XE went in, complete with the F28 due to the mount. After this it got a bit hectic, approx 7pm on the Saturday, so no pics were taken.

Anyway to cut a long story short, after a few problems it eventually fired up and i was set to drive back from the garage to Wales to do the PNG trackday @ LLandow. Unfortunately I got no further than to pick my mate up when the XE engine started to knock, so all that effort for nothing!

So a few months on, the LET has been stripped to reveal:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSC00019.jpg

The engine has now gone away to be rebuilt!:D

And I have decided to change the colour of my car!

So the stripdown of the rest of the car began, which included the rollcage going through the windscreen!lol and a replacement door being sourced, along with a pair of new rear quarters, new wings, new grill (thanks to it being dropped), and the sideskirts being removed.

And after the car was bare-ish, the rubbing down began! oh joy :wtf:

Heres a pic of my mate to finish the update lol

Forgot to mention, to get the white on running for winter was my priority which happened a few months back (Sept 1st), i got a new engine, donor Cally!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC04903.jpg

Out came the engine, and went into its new home:

Good work Paul, are you hopeing to have it out for 2008?

Paul
07-11-07, 02:56 PM
Thanks for the comments guys, It should be ready for 2008, dont see why not.

Awaiting Beevers to re-send out the rear quarters after the first ones arrived with ripples in, should be with me by the end of the week. Then getting a mate to fit them, as soon as theyre done we can prime the areas that need doing.

Then its all go systems go for painting, touch wood, by the end of this month!

Should have engine back by end of next wee with a bit of luck.

Then the fun bits begins :)

Went up to Yorkshire on Saturday to collect the rear quarters. Was a nice smooth journey tbh, no traffic the whole way!

Arrived back with them and thought this week I'd get my panel beater mate to set about fitting them:

So here the Quarters are:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/rearquarter4.jpg

Old ones being prepped for soming off:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/rearquarter8.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/rearquarter7.jpg

They're off!:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/rearquarter3.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/rearquarter9.jpg

New ones are in place, just for pics and see how they lined up. Which they do superbly!

Should be welded onto tomorrow dependant upon work...

Got one of the quarters welded on tonight, and for a pattern part they fit suprisingly well, nigh on perfect!

Pics to follow maybe tomorrow, too tired to upload them now.

Plans are more sanding this weekend, then back on the quarters on tuesday!

Update time:

Right so following on from the last update, I have been fairly busy (well my mate Glen has too!). Its the preparation as you know which takes time to get it all done perfect, so theres no imperfections  which there will be as its a god dam Nova! lol

Anyway, last time the rear quarters were placed on, theyve since been cut in:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00054.jpg

Then tacked on:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00056.jpg

Then completely wedled on:

That has been since rubbed down ready for some stopper, but got no pics!

Lined up the new door and wing, bit of fettling later (no bolts on wing)

Bit of ventage for the bonnet, WIP:

Right finished off the fillering the other night, used some stopper last night to fill in the pin holes etc. Theyre now ready to primer, just got to DA again in 240gritt, scotch the inside, remove seat rails and nova gear stick. Then we can primer it!

Deadline for primer is set for next Thursday, so it'll be all go for me this week.

used some stopper last night to fill in the pin holes etc

What's stopper? I always seem to end up with the pinholes in my filler. :)

Paul
06-12-07, 03:51 PM
stopper is very fine filler. Basically you get the main shape out of the bodyfiller, then you do a final skim with stopper and that will get rid of any imperections. including pinholes, hairline cracks. You can also use it if you have a chip, instead of just feathering out the chip, that bit in the paint will always be slightly lower, so just used a tiny bit of stopper, then DA over the chip as normal.

Right went a bit stopper crazy tonight, had a dink in the door:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00084.jpg

Wasnt happy with the rear arches last time it was sprayed, little bit low, so on here too:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00083.jpg

Bonnet is now completely welded and welds grounded back, little bit of stopper here too:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00087.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00086.jpg

Sealed all the arches, and joins in the quarters:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00089.jpg

Also plated this up, finished with brush sealer:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00085.jpg

And finally started to remove the seat rails:

lookin good tho .

Paul
08-12-07, 02:46 PM
Thats a good point, as youll see though most of that will disappear, so hopefully when the disc part of the pin is screwed to the bonnet it shouldnt matter.

After selling the white XE Nova, I replaced it with this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00095.jpg

Had this for allof a week and a half, its big and boring IMO! Thankfully the wheel bearing gave up the ghost on it the other night, so what a perfect excuse to go and buy this:

http://www.pngclub.com/images/car_images/3407big3.jpg

Engines coming out of calibra on saturday, and going into the SR sometime soon! :D

Anyway, back to the original project....

The primering has been delayed til next week now due to falling behind schedule , the filler work is now all done, minus the odd dink here or there. The car is nearly all rubbed down and ready to go too. Just got the bloody seat reail + front foot wells left to do.

I went to collect the engine today from the breakers as I borrowed my mates bigger van.

I thought I'd try and get the alt pulley off as I know what they can be like! Looked as though it was going to be a nightmare, low and behold 0 bolts removable! Grinder time...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00221.jpg

What was left of the bolts, which all came out with my fingers after the pulley was off!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00220.jpg

What tools it took! lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00219.jpg

Got a bit more engine work done today for the white one, changed the cambelt, which I just done in time by the sounds and feel of the rollers!

Forgot to take a pic but you can see the shiney new idler pulley here!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00224.jpg

Cleaned the engine up a bit:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00226.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00229.jpg

And decided to just grind the outer ring off of the alt pulley, seeing as I had to take the outer ring off yestaday anyway!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/lashednova/DSC00228.jpg

And finally, got myself some new rear springs. They are softer than the standard one pictured, -90mm! (These are for my Turbo one though!)

15mpg? Bent bit's here and there and it did have a few spots here and there of rust underneath. And at the time, i couldn't insure it as i hadn't been driving long enough. It was a fun car but the GT is alot nicer to drive, better on fuel and more tunable without engine swap. Just as quick as a XE too :p

I needed new tyres for the SR, but managed to find 4 SRI steelies knocking about with near enough new 175/65/R14 tyres, so what I saved on them today I thought I'd spend on some rollcage tubing. Eventually managed to find a place that does the semaless tubing!

Got a 6m length, and this 5mmx25mm bar to make the saddle brackets up with.

Need to get a pipe bender and then I can crack on with the doorbars!

No update as such on the car.

Howeve have ordered the new seat inserts for my buckets as blue wouldnt match the new colour.

Ordered a new rad, and also some perspex for the front widnows. And got my new intercooler through today:

Chose to stick with the Evo VIII one as it is originally designed for 300-400bhp, and also has been tested by Mitsi for everyday use, so better than aftermarket ones IMO:

It is now basically finished just a few more things to do like, engine oil, coolant, wire in the gauages and oil pressure sender.

Considering the list of things to do was like this under 2 weeks ago, i think I've done pretty well!

I see youve done the same kinda with a bit of rubber and to cable ties.. i like it good work.

Glad to see its comming on so well.

Yep, theyre straight to the floor. Im fairly tall, well a little over 6ft, so the height isn't an issue for me.

Basically theyre sidemounts, and i just marked where i wanted the seats, welded some penny washers underneath the floor pan and drilled the holes, and bolted straight trhough :)

Can get pics if you like mate?

Cheers for all the comments gents, should be starting her up this week. It's actually ground breaking news, as for the past 9 months its just been a garage ornament rather than a car lol

I was thinking of doing the same with mine but the floor where the inner mount (near handbrake) would go isn't level, how have you done that?

I welded some angle iron in on my other shell but the current one it'll be tricky as the seats are really close to the cage...

Pics would be good if you can!

Paul
13-05-08, 01:26 PM
erm, will be very hard to get a pic of that side, but i'll try my best.

I got some plate, and just welded it into the corner say like a triangle shape. That was then level and I could just bolt the seat to it.

just thought id bring this thread up to date.

i now have a tubular manifold, t34 turbo, and bought a swedish inlet(just waiting for delivery)

Just picked up my 3" exhaust pipes to make to my system, bought 1 large silencer, 1 small silencer, 1 3.5" outwardly rolled tip, 1 axle bend, 1.5m of straight, 3 clamps, 4 90deg bends, cossie downpipe.

So hopefully will be making the exhaust system in a few days time...

The turbo is now bolted on, need to make a strengthening plate to mount from the turbo to the block tomorrow. Had the oil feed made up today, just waiting for a 10mm banjo bolt to be delivered for it.

The return is just a case of cut it down and retain the standard KKK pipe.

Air filter wise, im not sure, have to figure that out once the exhaust is on. It does however look as though it will stay in the same postion as it was with a bit of pipework fettling.

I am keeping my Evo VIII Intercooler, just need to order some new boost hoses for that.

I have bought 4x Micheline S9B slick's. On the way to the hydraulic shop today to get the oil lines made for my turbo and my mates car there is a metal re-cylcers (weighing in gaff). I got all the way there from my workshop (10miles) and realised I had forgotten the original line doh! So after going back and getting it, there was a flat bed throwing loads of alloys into a container ready to be scrapped. Timing couldnt have been better, he was literally just about to throw an alloy into the skip when I saw what it was out the corner of my eye. A Cesaro :):):):), I wrenched the handbrake up in the van, jumped out ran over shouting not to throw it (as it would have either cracked or dented). It happened to be the first out of a set of four, no buckles, cracks etc. £30 later and I have a fairly mint set of 4 cesaro's. Shame there were no centre caps though, can tiwn em all eh?

Anyway, as I've said, when I have all the new stuff with me, and its all I will be taking it back up to track n road to be mapped once again.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but will get some of the various bits asap.
