Been doing some work over the past couple of nights
Started out with my new alloys:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/vaughanmc/NewAlloys.jpg
Had a wee muck about rubbing them down then a couple of coats of etch primer:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/vaughanmc/DSC00608.jpg
And then tonight I hit them with some colour, Rover Hurricane Grey:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/vaughanmc/DSC00609.jpg
One down, 3 to go - Along with 4 centre caps.

Got my strut brace fitted that I got for my b'day back in May lol which meant I needed to fit a Corsa SPi intake system and a 'K&N' style air-filter
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/vaughanmc/My%20Nova/SV206888.jpg
Sounds not too bad, not really what its on for though, its on so my strut brace goes on as well

hi mate

Im gonna put some pics up in my wip of the exterior. Ill have a busy weekend building up all the interior. Then its finished and i cant wait to drive it again. Need to come up and see you mate. vaughanmc
30-07-08, 11:19 AM
I noticed my air-filter was getting a bit warm once we had been out and about in the car
So my dad got me a Mk4 Astra intake pipe from a scrap-car and we cut a hole out the plastic/rubber bit that surrounds the radiator on the Nova
We then routed it so it was coming directly from the front of the car and leading right inside the air-filter
Hopefully this should make a difference to the temperature going into the filter
vaughanmc
03-08-08, 04:45 PM
Went to the scrappy today to be greeted by a 1993 K reg Nova Spin in white with, wait for it, 15k miles on the clock - Unbelievable!
Interior mint, boot mint, engine bay mint - Passenger door mint!! Which came home with me for £30
I also got the parcel shelf out it which is as new condition and the boot strut as mines was leaking
There was a Calibra there as well and I nabbed another set of Heated seat switches and an original Grundig 303 radio
All of the above came to £50 for me and I thought it was money well spent
Till the next time, Vaughan :D
vaughanmc
04-08-08, 02:23 PM
Cheers mate :)
Get yours legal!!!!
get mine legal lol. get some pics up of that door
vaughanmc
04-08-08, 05:59 PM
lol Aye I will later lol
Me and my dad are going to have a crack at stripping the windows out
yur new wheels are 100% better than the old ones!
Did you lacquer them?
vaughanmc
04-08-08, 09:06 PM
No mate I didn't...
Don't know if I should though - Been all polished up though
vaughanmc
05-08-08, 04:22 PM
Mini update:
My new / scrap door - Its about 98% mint
I was rubbing down some of the surface rust on the bottom of the door and there was an odd looking patch kind of in the middle
Rubbed it down a wee bit more and it became a wee slight hole *as will be shown on the pics below*
Kept cracking on with the rest of the door and its truely mint - Needs a good dust out from the inside but heres some pics - Still a bargain for £30 I'd say:

door looks pretty good, get the rust all away and get the welder out :D fill up the hole, problem solved :thumb:
vaughanmc
05-08-08, 06:50 PM
Aye I think we will do it - Most of the rust has came off with a light sanding :)
Put some Etch Primer on it today to stop it getting any worse
No doubt when it goes for paint it will be sanded off and done properly lol
bullet hole - car it came off was probably a pimp mobile owned by a gangsta granny! Giving it large in Tesco carpark - got into a "ting" wid one of the homegrannies on isle 3 and she got a cap popped in her door!
Looking at the angle i reckon the shooter was all bent over - I plame the zimmer frame...
lol
The holes an easy fix matey. If you aint got a welder you could clean up both sides really well (make sure absolutely NO rust), etch prime it then make up a small metal patch for the back and epoxy resin it in place. Then just skim over woth filler...
Alternatively if you can wait till the meet and can hang fire fitting it I could pop down with me welder...
vaughanmc
05-08-08, 07:05 PM
Aye it won't be fitted for a good while yet mate
You can come down and weld it if you want - Would be interested to see how it would be done :)
also - I'd lacquer the wheels. Just a couple of coats - it'll protect them from stone chips and other scratches.
No probs - will pop down the Sunday morning...

05-08-08, 07:21 PM
What time at mate ? Pop down to my house and then we can convoy to the meet ?

My Nova, mates silver Nova if its painted, Ade's SR, Iain's Nova Sport, Big_Chap I think as well, Craig (GTE999)'s GTE, another guy off here with a red SR/SRi I think too

Mini update:
I should be picking up a 3" Magnex S/S backbox at the Scotland meet for the Nova
Should set the back end off nicely and sound not too bad as well
Nothing too big as that would be overkill on the 1.2 - Will be good to see it fitted
Vaughan
PS - Thanks to DaveC for the backbox :)
I'll bring me socket set down - fit it there and then...

They do deal with the older sort of cars mind you
vaughanmc
17-08-08, 08:03 PM
At the Vauxhall Meet today I picked up my Magnex S/S backbox and centre section from a lad off the PNG - Nice one
I also picked up a set of 'indicator tinted' Twin Fog lights from Iain Talbot from PNG as well - Money well spent
I need to get a bigger exhaust clamp to fit the backbox on but that shouldn't be a problem
Got the Twin Fog's fitted when I got home and they look so much smarter

Aye it doesn't seem to want to go onto the original centre section...
When we slide it over the original section it pops the two rubber mounts off for the centre section
I thought by cutting a slight hole in the bumper it would all sit even but my dad thinks otherwise...
Can anyone shed any light ???? :)

Mine had a Courtney suspension kit on it (clubman i think) and the exhaust just wasn't going fit properly with the mk2 bumper. Was fine on the mk1 bumper though before it was changed.
not a lot of progress on the nova. Pretty much stripped bar the engine and gearbox. Long long term project and will need to get a garage built before too much happens with it. Still going mk1 sr look in carmine read with c16xe...
thats real nice, i'm liking those back lights
Looks good Vaughan...
TBH I think you'll need to trim a small section from the bumper - the underside is probably hitting the top of the tailpipe. The fact that the centre section rubbers are coming off indicates the pipe has been raised closer to the underside so you'll need to either extend the hanging arm on the tailpipe or chop the bumper the accomodate it.
vaughanmc
20-08-08, 05:56 AM
Aye I thought that as well - Probably cut a small section out the bumper sometime then adjust* everything else accordingly
Adjust* - Get the hammers out lol
Jamie - Would be nice to see your Nova sometime as it looks minty clean in the pics :)
Cheers for the other comment about the back lights - They are mean as anything on the back

yeah, we were loving looking at it from behind..mudflaps were just about scraping. but got to say, it sat pretty even going up the road. it wasnt just the back that was down..did look really good.
that magnex makes it look alot better now also..last time you were down at mine, you still had the standard exhaust on..thats what was letting it down imo.
vaughanmc
15-09-08, 10:15 PM

Long time, no update!
This time its the doors again!
A local guy to me had a mint pair of doors that were for his car but he unfortunately had to sell the car, so I snapped up the mint doors and my mate snapped up the mint shell!
I thought my other door was mint until I seen these boys!
£100 for the pair and I also got some black GSi sill trims and GSi polished kick-plates
Heres the pics of the lovely doors; Passenger side 1st:

Going to try and get a black GSi dash or paint the original one and make it a full on black and red mix
The grey kills it a wee bit - Looks good though :)
Cheers for the comments
Paint the original,2 tins of halfords black flexible vinyl paint and it looks brilliant.Ive just done mine.No way was i paying what people are asking for a genuine one.2 tins=£20.Will look really nice with that carpet
Pistol Pete
04-11-08, 10:07 PM
Red carpet looks goos. Black dash would finish it off.
looks nice but i would of thought that it would get mucky really easy?nothing a set of mats wont sort out though!was it easy enough to fit?
have you got your cheque off tv yet?lol
vaughanmc
05-11-08, 07:36 AM
Old carpet out - Make a slice in the Red carpet for the bolt at the bottom of the Mk2 dash and in it went - Also had to make a wee cut for the 60/40 seat bracket - Simple enough though :)
Got a brand new set of rubber Nova mats for it that I picked up for a bargain - There in now!
And no, no cheque from TV yet lol - Dave (xxx_Nova_xxx) is still waiting on his from last year as well ;)

05-11-08, 04:36 PM
I'm liking the Antibes carpet :thumb: Not sure it suits the GSI interior though, it looks out of place imo. Maybe will suit better when you get a black dash in.
Keep up the good work thou :)
That looks sweet mate also looks much cleaner than when it left mine.
vaughanmc
05-11-08, 09:38 PM
lol Haven't even hoovered it yet
Been too much happening with school work etc - I'll do it at the weekend
Black dash might be on the cards next year
Carpet looks good but deffo needs a GSI dash or yours painting.
Painting? Get it flocked ;)
vaughanmc
05-11-08, 10:19 PM
Tempted - I might treat it to a Flocked dash if it passes the MOT on Feb, which it should :D
Cheers for the comments! :)
For the love all all things Nova - please dont 2 tone your dash with red bits! That's really old and IMO tacky.
Stain the grey dash with black vynil paint (needs a couple of coats) - make sure you degrease it thoroughly 1st though otherwise it'll fail and leave it at that. Red plastic bits is just wrong IMO.
You planning on matching the door cards?
021-bennettt
05-11-08, 11:00 PM
Those alloys suit it a treat:)
Red carpet takes me back had one in my GSI back in the day, would look better with a GSI dash.
vaughanmc
06-11-08, 07:55 AM
Dash would be done fully black like a GSi Ade :)
Might need your assistance for the taking out of the original and re-fit of the newly painted one
Everything else in the car is from a GSi - Rear 1/4 panels, parcel shelf supports etc

30-11-08, 01:50 PM

Picked up some new alloys the other night, no idea why I wanted these but I did lol
4 Nova 3 spoke alloys - 2 are 5J and 2 are 4.5J, but I have one spare in the garage which is a 5J also
Going to pick out the tidiest 4 and put them on the car when I have money for tyres
That means the Grey alloys are up Forsale if anyone's interested in them - PM me and theres a set of 4 clean and tidy Astra Sport steelies as well Forsale if anyone's interested...

Gte 3 spoke rims in gun grey would look good i reckon. Shame you cant get decent brakes under them easily
vaughanmc
11-12-08, 08:43 PM
I really like them in silver but I may alter the colour once I've had them on for a while
Would do them another shade of grey as well :)

Havnt checked back on this in ages ! Looking very good mate, fair play you have put alot of work into this. So just got to sort out the new doors and paint your dash then hey, get it out over the crimbo holidays, will give you something to do and it'll look so much better. Dont know why you wanna put those 3 spokes on tho ? awful things at the time and even worse now ! get some nice 5 spokes on there. Best of luck anyhow.
vaughanmc
11-12-08, 10:19 PM
Hopefully the doors will be painted whilst I'm off on my x-mas holidays
Which means I can get them filled with Waxoyl and then put back on and built back up :)
That will be another thing ticked off the list - I'll do the dash next year if I get round to it...
